RFA successfully tests full-scale staged-combustion engine

After our first successful powerpack and ignition tests, we’re more than happy to announce that the hot fire test of our stage combustion engine was a huge success as well. We delivered a steady state combustion of 2 seconds followed by a successful engine shutdown.
Being the ninth company in the world and the first in the EU to develop this engine cycle makes us super proud and happy.
We’re thrilled to share these results with you, but it’s off to the factory for us again now in order to build The Next Small Thing!

28000 revolutions per minute is much slower than I expected. How large is this engine?

You are right, we did not run the power pack to full power. We aim at reaching over 35,000 rpm in the medium term. Our engine will have thrust of more than 95 kN.

We use kerosene (RP1) and liquid oxygen (LOX) for our first and second stage.
