To me, the first is clearly superior, but 2 is almost as good. I just rewatched it for the first time in ages, and what made it so good to me is that Axel works with Rosebud and Taggert for pretty much the whole movie. I don't know how well the actors got along in real life, but they had great chemistry on screen. 3 was really bad, and John Ashton not being there didn't do it any favors. They'd been talking about doing IV forever; if they don't make Judge Reinhold and Ashton part of it, they shouldn't bother making it. They're probably too old by now anyway, I'm happy with the two great movies we ended up getting.
