haven't seen anyone talk about development at such an essential level. most are busy talking about landing on mars while not even talking about the terrible quality of life fueled by uninspiring infrastructure. huge props to shashank.

      Different sort of development.
Landing on Mars, or developing missiles, gives you a strategic deterrence.
One is not related to other.
While the points are very much true. Our standard of living (in our mindset) & planning is just so low.
Also, we have too many 2-wheelers. We can’t even restrict buying of 2-wheelers.
What govt can do, is restrict buying of 2/3 vehicles per household in metro cities (unless the person/owner can show parking space).
Removing street/cart vendors & providing vending zones for them.
      + lot of other steps.
Basic stuff that they can implement , they never pay attention to.
Like enforcing strict regulation on commodity carrying vehicles.
I see open loads of cement on tractors in B’lore.
Proper paved roads + road-edges matching with dust laden pavements/tracks on the side.
      These all are basic stuff.
Again, nobody cares for this stuff.
These can be taken care of.

What we immediately need is implementation of CAA NRC, 2 child policy in states like Bihar, UCC, abolition of waqf board, all temples to be free, no reservation to Muslims or other religions
Things we should ask from government:-
? Why "make in India" have become slow? Especially in technological and defence fields . Also in small scale, Not everybody can become labour so if there are plants for earphones, toys,(things which we import from china) then people from Bihar and others can go into that field
? What now about semiconductor plant ?
? How will Modi government plant to restructure our cities? Traffic lights , cycle tracks, footpath are basic necessities.
? Cleanliness? We need movement like "ugly Indian" in every part of India to make it clean.
? Why India has failed to become a tourist hub despite its diversity(not just people but also geographical {plains, Himalayas, beaches, north east, deserts},monumental Heritage and ancient culture(people in China's South province wear dress like Indian clothes, even they are capitalising on Indian culture saying that it's thiers and increasing thier soft power, just search "flying Apsara")
? When a foreigner say India is chaotic, it means lawlessness like traffic, footpath stalls, people spitting.
? When is government passing law to strict movement of cows on roads. Cow owners should provide shelter to cows and if found on roads then it should be seized just like bikes
? Pollution. A good public transport system of buses(Jakarta bus transit)
? Why government not promotes Indian brands. Police cars should be of Indian brands, public phones should be of Indian brands(just like South korea)
? Why don't we have app like "WhatsApp" , only South Asians use it , we South Asians are 2 billion people so we deserve our own app instead of American, if we start using some it then rest of the south aisans will have to .
We also need our own TH-cam , people like puneet, chapris and others are maligning the image of India
?education? India has more temples and mosques than government schools. According to me, ann organisation should be given contract to make government school for 20 years lease. Conversational sankrit(not necessarily written) compulsory from young age, hindi is not much use. Social should be taught in local language. History shouldn't be taught from invader perspective

I'm sure they are aware of these issues, but they will never implement the necessary changes. As long as problems exist, they continue to profit. It's not a lack of talent we suffer from, but a lack of intent. Our greatest achievements begin and end with UPI. It's hard to accept this reality. Citizens of India are the biggest problem. In the first example of Delhi, where vehicles are merging due to unauthorized encroachments, if the government or bureaucrats start to clear these encroachments, people will start protesting, claiming that the poor are being wronged ("garibo ke sath galat ho raha hai").
I went trekking in HP and found it littered with alcohol and beer bottles, as well as chip packets. No government in the world can do anything if its citizens simply don't care and conveniently shift blame onto others.

Singapore's low corruption levels stem from a strong legal framework, an effective anti-corruption agency (CPIB), and a meritocratic public service. The government enforces strict anti-corruption laws with severe penalties, maintains transparency, and ensures public officials are well-compensated to reduce temptation. Strong political will, an efficient bureaucracy, public education, and an independent judiciary further reinforce a zero-tolerance culture toward corruption.

It is good you have tackled these problems which affect India. The major problem people like to boast about things. It is still a long way to go although people boast it is the 3rd economy in world. The major problem which tourists complain about is honking all the times, people litter the roads and no bins in sight , hygiene and children should be taught in the schools about these things. constant honking in my opinion is because of corrupt people, people using the traffic in the wrong way.
, patience, laid back attitude, no traffic policemen, and poor communication of embassies in foreign countries. No time keeping. People say 10 am but come at 12 noon. If the country is going to improve then practices need to change.

Hi, I'm a Tamil-speaking Singaporean who has never been to India. I think Indian cities CAN learn from Singapore, but it takes political will. After Deng Xiaoping's landmark visit to Singapore in 1978, Chinese leaders made a conscious decision to model their cities after Singapore. Look at Chinese cities today, clean, modern, well-maintained, and well-planned. India is full of brilliant minds, there is nothing the country cannot achieve if the people are united.

      In a country where:
      - Over 70% of the population has been denied access to education and has lived in sub-human conditions for centuries,
      - The destiny of its people was controlled by foreign invaders and colonizers for over a thousand years,
      - Cleaning was viewed as the duty of a particular caste rather than a shared responsibility,
After gaining independence, the country faced stark realities:
-A society fragmented by over 5,000 castes,
-Divided by more than 25,000 sub-castes,
      -Speaking over 800 languages,
      -Representing over 2,000 ethnic groups,
-And six major religions, including one that locks its followers into a mindset from the 7th century.
With such fragmentation and no strong sense of unity, true development remains elusive. Comparing this to a country like China is futile:
      - Over 90% of China’s population belongs to a single ethnicity,
      - China was ruled by its own dynasties until the 20th century, avoiding the depth of colonial poverty. Its people were educated, and its streets were clean.
With no unifying sense of identity, this country has little hope for true development.

Singapore as it looks today is solely because of the vision of the leader like Lee Kwan Yu, he was a mild dictat or he imprisoned critics, banned Unionists, invited plane loads of private players and let the Singaporean markets be free from government interference while keeping it under the strict government watch in case the rights of Singaporeans don't get trampled over by private players, all in all for the sole intention of making Singapore a top class Nation on Par with those of the west and even ahead of them in many cases, and it worked because Lee Kwan Yu actually had a genuine motivation to make Singapore a great nation and not just grab as many capital as he could in the end to flee to a first world country like actual dictat ors from Africa or Latin America or just live a lavish lifestyle while his people live a peasant's life like under Gaddafi, Saddam, Khomeini etc.
I personally love Lee Kwan Yu and i actually believe his mild dictat orial policies were totally justified as he foresaw the hindrances that would come in the garb of proponents of freedom of speech, labour unionists, sociàlists and dealt with them accordingly, something Modi can't do because it's a duckin democracy with a bunch of bureaucrats married to the families of activists journalists celebrities and politicians running the country and all of whom have common goal of being everything but a capitalistic country absolutely out of touch with the realities of the streets and the people that walk on it.

Summarizing few takeaways from the video.
    1. Not setting Accountability for individuals and Organizations.
    2. Leaders focusing on short term fixes.Focussing on Prize rather than the process.
    3. Public having holier than thou attitude towards "blue collar jobs". These are often critical for the support infrastructure.
    4. Authority for urban planning not working properly/ or completely missing ?
    5. Not Incentivizing good behavior and eliminating the bad behavior by harsh punishments by right legislation.
    6. Not Embracing Technology enough.
    7. Creation of Jobs/Industries is not enough. The ecosystem that comes along with it is often missing.

I am a proud Bharatiya. But I live in reality.
    1. India is still broken in so many ways
    2. This can be seen as an opportunity, but unless at a structural level, corruption doesn't go down, it will still reflect everywhere
    - Everyone has a price tag in India (mostly everyone). This is why we're still lagging
Anyway, I am part of the solution. I am teaching Indians online via my 1 year program on how to develop a 100X life by upgrading your skills.

I have a point on housing in india when you operate free market in highly unequal society most of assets prices are bid up by high income individuals, prices of home skyrocketed in metros but income of mid wage earners not vis-a-vis. Therefore, rent increases to cover cost of acquisition of house. So basically what happens one might ended up with so many home might unoccupied others have nothing. Singaporean gov. is smart enough to understand that it did not allowed to operate private players in housing bcuz it know how market distributes it fruits.

Singapore is definitely great. Most workers working on road construction in Singapore are from India. So Indian workers can make same quality roads in India too if companies want to. But I think road construction in India has a different model, focus is on making more roads at a lower cost. If govt prioritise even higher cost of road construction in India, then lot of road projects will never be implemented. There have been road markings in India too, especially on NH its good. I am a 2nd generation born Singaporean from India origin. My family and I have visited India from the early 2000s frequently. India has come a long way. As an outsider India today is at major crossroads which will shape India’s future in the next 20-30 years. India's strength is its democracy and diversity but it’s crucial for the nation to know when to put aside differences and act as one. In 1978, China's key leader Deng Xiaoping and others visited Singapore and made a conscious decision to model their cities after Singapore and they achieved it. There is nothing India cannot achieve if the people are united!!

In my opinion, corruption/greed are the main cuIprits for differences between quality of roads. In India, tenders are invited for lowest budgets of road construction by ignoring the quality...and then contractors and engineers bargain for commission. At last, these roads don't get the sufficient quantity of materials required to maintain quality and last longer !

It’s not about the Government in India. It is about the people who don’t care for rules and regulations. When they visit Singapore or other developed countries, they go out of the way to follow rules. But the moment they are in an Indian environment, the will not miss even a second to flaunt the rules and make their priority the most important one by neglecting basic human rights or rules of the road. If even all people who have traveled abroad and seen the traffic rules and follow the same in India, I am sure there will be a minimum 20% change in road user attitude. It all starts with us. Not the government. Government already had the laws and rules in place. It’s for us to follow and believe in those rules and regulations. Till then India will not change. Agree?
