    Cool build. Looks like you did a lot of work fabricating that chassis. The car has a nice stance to it. It's going to be a blast to drive with the new suspension 😁

    I do honestly think that with a couple of braces would work. You could make a curved armature that bolts on near the mounts to a center rod near the axle and brace it from there? I'm not an engineer but I do like the ATV style straight axle and it would be great for slides haha. Excited to see the next steps happen!

    The chassis is way to weak to handle the physics of speed and weight with such a pedal car frame!??! Build a stronger one and lift him a bit more up!

    Good idea about the new differential design. Can you alter the final drive ratio? We just got back from a cross continental trip of 6400 miles from Rama near Orillia by way of Santa Fe NM, in a 1984 VW vanagon I put together. We saw some awesome projects in the Barrie XLStainless shops. Congratulations to you and your beautiful bride on your marriage and west coast relocation!

    • @Kylescaife
      @Kylescaife  ปีที่แล้ว

      I will be able to change the final drive ratio by changing the sprocket size, just like a bike! I’ve chosen to reduce it by 25% from the motorcycle’s factory gearing which will give me a lot more low end torque which will be necessary with the added weight from the bike. I considered reducing it more but at 25% reduction it will allow for a theoretical top speed of 150mph and hopefully not revving to the moon while cruising at 70-80mph.
      Sounds like a fun trip! Thank you!

      @@Kylescaife Simple but elegant solution. We had a few mechanical adventures, mostly due to an ignition coil shorted out by an aftermarket tachometer, and fuel sender inaccuracies. Otherwise the $100 39 year old waterboxer engine performed flawlessly. We didn't take the diesel powered van this time as diesel prices were astronomical. Your Dad mentioned that while you hadn't been on TH-cam there was Instagram.

  • @caseydimmitt2449
    @caseydimmitt2449 ปีที่แล้ว

    KISS. Just because the engine is in the way doesn't mean you can't add a bar. As long as the pivot points are correct... the bar doesn't have to be straight. Also the beam can be rubber mounted to accountfor any geometry fudging and drivetrain shock. The axle can flex a bit and return to straight.

    You could run a solid steel rod for an axle, like a giant gokart axle, instead of a tube, it would at least be stronger

      @@Kylescaife I mean, that's what a lot of old school guys did back in the day for harley trikes, but a chain driven dif IS a helluva lot cooler, and a bit reminiscent of prewar chain drive racecars

    Would you talk more about your suspension set up not just the bellcranks but the overall geometry and how you tackled figuring that?

    • @Kylescaife
      @Kylescaife  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I posted a video about cantilever suspension in the past, however I’m definitely more educated now so maybe I’ll do another. The problem is that I am far from an expert on suspension geometry and stuff like that so I think there would be people who were a lot better than me at explaining stuff haha

    Why didn't you just go with a Honda Magna shaft-drive with Drive Gear Differential & Swing arm, along with a thicker axle. Problem solved.

    • @Kylescaife
      @Kylescaife  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Because a Hayabusa is a way more desirable engine than a Honda Magna lol. And I want to run a chain drive to be able to swap out sprockets easily and change gear ratios.
