Of course they were making auto levels before Mario Maker. I remember playing a lot of Free Rider 2 on trackmill.com way back in the day and people had the most insane auto levels. They actually weren't hard to make either; just play for a bit, pause, then draw the next part of the track and hit play again. Then the whole thing would play out like that in one fluid motion.
Lol I remember when I went to Japan and my Grandmother had a Famicom that my cousins were playing instead of the N64 for some reason and they were like come play this and it was the real SMB2 and considering I played the international version of SMB2 (Doki Doki Panic) I was like tf and the only thing i remember about that game was that fucking poison mushroom still to this day refuse to play it and i still get shit from my cousins about that day but the day wasnt that bad coz we went from that to SM64 and all was good
