Wonderfully tied sir! I have officially now seen every video that you have uploaded with the exception of your salmon fly patterns, which I have been saving and patiently watch videos for the fourth and fifth time now. I decided that I would save the salmon fly demonstrations until I had completed the remaining patterns that I have bookmarked within each of your well cataloged playlists, and there were several of them. The salmon flies have also been saved for last as a treat and motivation for myself as my wife and I prepare for our upcoming move in the next six months to Alaska, where they will all be put to good use I expect. Thanks again for everything that you do, all the lessons you teach, and Merry Christmas to your family and yourself my friend!
Hi Davie, very interesting pattern. I have used blue colours in nigh fly Pukeko patterns, but have just started using blue colours in the bright day type patterns for Steelheads. I am on another learning curve! Cheers mate. Harera
There is a river I have not fished for awhile, that has large fish within. I have seen Rainbows in the Ten pound class, jump. I've seen Bulltrout even larger. I've caught smaller fish, on smaller flies. I think this pattern may be worth trying out. The one really large fish I know was caught there, was caught on a large Kelly Galloup pattern, I think this one would make a good alternative. If I get back there I will let you know.
Really nice to see two versions next to each other. It puts light on how the length of wings/feathers do not extend as far back on the larger salmon style hooks. That has been confusing trying to down or upsize flies. Are there rules on doing this?
Hi Donald, I would normally wind towards the eye when whip-finishing a fly though I do at times come back if I need to tidy the head up and give it a better shape..I'm glad you liked the fly and Merry Christmas.. All the very best Davie...
Hi Peter, I've tyed them in many colours and even mixed the blue and red, orange, yellow, green/olives and even purple and claret and you would be surprised how well they work and look..Happy New Year.. All the very best Davie
The opposing pov is really helpful... The direction of tye makes greater sense to me. ty!
What a beautiful combination of colours and materials Davie,
Really clear and precise instructions of the techniques you used Davie. Thanks for that! Cheers

Would you tie this great looking fly on a low water partridge salmon hook ?
Hi Andrew,
Yes I would as it would be an ideal hook to use for seatrout as well as salmon..
All the very best Davie..
@@DavieMcPhail thank you Davie I'll be having a try in the vice ,I'll post them on fb if you'd like to see ,what I've come up with 🙂

I have small mallard feathers. Could that make a good wing?
Hi Dominique LeBlanc,
Yes just use what you have as mallard feathers are ideal for many patterns like this..Merry Christmas.
All the very best Davie
Again, another nice fly. When you whip-finish a fly, do you normally wrap front to back or back to front?
