I can't comprehend of the absolute perfection that is The Wire. Michael Lee is one of many examples why its the best show ever made. Looking back I feel sad for how Michael went down the wrong path, at first he wanted to be straight and do the right thing. No show has ever come close to the Wire. 6:49 When Michael says "I just want him away from me and Bug, you see Chris look at him. Chris understands what's going on. He gets it. Then immediately says "Alright. We'll take care of it boss." For as ruthless as Chris was, he had a heart. He hated child molesters. He lost his cool on Bugs' dad. That ended up being his downfall.
I feel like Chris probably developed an emotional dead zone to get through being molested, and that "place" in his head is a tool he used to be able to kill anyone he needed to whenever called for without any emotion, even if it's just an innocent security guard at a convenience store (or two!)
In an instant, he knew it, I will do it, he was molested too with that much passion, beat a man to death with your hands is personal. He deserved what he got though
@@Godschild02068 my exact thoughts the first time I saw him beating Bug's dad to death. He was shown to be cool headed, calculating and disciplined. But he snapped and raged out on him. Micheal was a modern day Samurai straight from Akira Kurosawa movie . My man had honor and was conflicted - On the other end his Master Chris Partlow was man with a unwavering Code . Such a great show
croc croc yeah & the underbelly or tragedy of that is that he should not have been the man of the house taking responsibility for his younger brother; that’s the responsibility of the adults. Micheal didn’t get to be a kid, grew up too fast.
@Nathaniel Baxter yes but not only to survive. He did enjoy the power. He grew up being the victim and he learned at a young age he needs to be the aggressor to survive. And he enjoyed it. He didn't do things because he is altruistic. He did it so that he would be on top
Tristan Wilds played this so perfectly. Dude all the actors on this show, even the minor characters, put on award winning performances. This show really is the best to ever hit TV
The look on Chris's face when Michael told him he just wanted his step-dad gone was intense. Chris knew exactly what happened without a word being said by Michael

Michael's story is one of the saddest stories portrayed in The Wire, a story that probably occurs in real life far too often. It's the story of those victims of a society that promotes inequality, the story of those who preserve their moral values against all odds and despite all the injustices suffered throughout their lives. US media and politicians always remind people of the heros in the army, but they always ignore the heroes that arise in the inner city. Thanks to The Wire for giving a voice to those who struggle in our societies and for giving an honest view of our broken system.
Víctor Huertas The real tragic thing about Michael is he's one of those young people that really could have been a legit leader in the legit world, but....circumstances basically doomed him to having to operate in the environment he was raised in. That's the real tragedy...The lost potential.
yo some people's lives are just so much worser than others. somewhere 30 minutes from micheal, is a rich suburban girl with all the love and support in the world and the only problem is why a cute guy didnt call her back. and then one day, she might see micheal in prison or looking scary, and judge him on why he is the way he is. its sad how the world be sometimes.

When one of these little white suburban kids kill someone they have a thousands excuses, he was bullied or something. Samething with white serial killers, they always give you some sob story about the mother didn't let him suck the titty enough as a child.
You can tell by the body language the first time Bug's father returned that he did something horrible to Michael. He's shirtless, steps up to him, gets in real close, camera angle makes him look much bigger, the face touch, and "damn.. you grew". Just an extremely creepy moment.
When Bunk is investigating Bug's father's murder he is looking over his and Michael's file and he calls him a "baby bumping motherfucker". And he mentions that Michaels mother refused to make of police report against him. It's so messed up that the one murder that Chris committed that everyone would agree that guy should be murdered is the one that brought down him and Snoop.
It's good that you have this emotion. We need more compassion for the forsaken children of the hood. Every spoiled brat entitled White kid should be forced to sit through all seasons of the wire.
The clip at the end with Omar saying that Michael is just a kid resonated with me. The Omar and Michael comparison is a way to give origins to figures/characters like them. Michael and Omar are born in the game and they're innovators, they play the game for themselves by their code. Game recognize game.
the real life omar saw a guy beat to death in front of him over 15 cents in front of him and his little brother when he was just 8 years old. That's how that shit happens
I love that line Michael told his mom. "I ain't paying you to be my mother!" She didn't deserve it, a real mother deserves any help you can give her. That wasn't her!
What constitutes as a man? Michael never had a childhood, he was devoid of any love and shelter and lost his innocence at an age no child should have to. He was emotionally bottled up and had little or no guidance in life and he fell prey to his environment which is the real tragedy. Michael cared for Dukie, he cared for his little brother and had responsibilities no child should ever have to burden.

Michael's character was just outstanding, and the scene towards the end of the show when he drops Dukie off and he can't remember the day they threw the balloons at the other kids was easily the most gut-wrenching thing I've ever watched and one of the best written scenes in television history. But out of all of them, I think Randy's story was the most depressing. One of the only kids who could've had a decent shot, especially with how he acted in school and how Carver watched over him and his foster mom, he gets thrown into the system and grows into an angry, violent corner kid. The last scene with him and Bunk nearly made me cry.
Maybe he was lying about whether or not he remembered that time, warn Dukie off so that he won't get hurt by bei around him, or maybe it was like Bodie once said "Soft link break the chain". I don't know, those were just some ideas I thought might be behind it. But yeah, his character was outstanding
+agenttheater5 It was repression. Because of all the horrific shit he had grown up with, he just repressed everything, that's why he can't remember that day 2 years before.
+Nick “The Doc” L. i think he will become the new bodie. Because i think the kids from season four are suppose to be like younger versions of main characters in a way.

Although Michael didn't like Cutty as a friend, Cutty is the only person both understanding him and caring for him. The way Cutty told him to go with your people is touching. Ironically, Chris can understand Mike's childhood trauma, but Chris didn't care about Michael a friend, Chris just took him as a co-worker, a human-resource.
@@jackb4327 Chris beat bugs' dad with such a hatred, because Chris suffered the violence from a molester when he was a child, so he hated such molesters. Finally, Chirs agreed on the hit on Michael so to save Marlo and his pension in the jail without too much resistance at the end suggests that Michael is just another expandable co-worker in their business.

His story is so heartbreaking in a lot of ways. When bug’s father violated him as a kid he set the ball in motion to fuck up his whole life and ruined his mind. Shattered his belief and trust in older men.
It's funny how Chris knew instantly what Micheal was going through. I think they shared something in common on that regard. Even the way Chris killed the guy, that shit was personal.
Like I commented elsewhere, I'm conflicted because I think it's interesting that Chris was acting on something personal, but I initially liked the idea that he was just deeply disgusted as an outsider :(
Cockoff Gewgle Yeah, I think he knew I mean his mom did it practically all the time around him and she would spend the money he gave her on drugs instead of food, so he had too know Dukie would do the same sadly.
Michael carried Dukie as far as he could carry him. At this point, tough decisions had to be made to survive. There was no gray area. Michael had to keep on the move as his option. Dukie had to stay stationary to be out of harm's way.
I thought of that comparison too when I first watched the show. Obviously there names. And they both have powerful scenes where they fully cross into that world. Corleone in the restaurant killing the cop and Sollozzo. And after Michael has his step dad killed, standing in the doorway triumphantly looking down at his mom. Chills.
I can relate to Michael cause I was molested as a child and took my anger and everything out on lots of people in the streets. The music that starts around 6:30 fits Michael's character perfectly. It has this beautiful and tragic tone throughout, a certain softness and darkness that emulates Michael's character and circumstance. A boy with a good heart forced to make horrible decisions just to help those he cares about. So much pain, yet so much love.
He was afraid of going soft, you see it in the way he reacts to Prez trying to help him in the classroom and the way he reacts to his friends talking about Cutti. I think for Mike his whole life was filled with so many dark things that he couldn't handle people being nice to him, there's a lot of conflict in his character, like a battle between being a good person and being able to survive in his harsh environment. I think that's what makes his character so powerful and sad.
+Leopold Butters Stotch yeah, he says "dude was just TOO FREINDLY", ....he aint used to that type of shit from people, people like that are suspect in his reasoning!!!!!
Leopold Butters Stotch it's not that Mike was afraid of being soft. Bugs father was probably nice to him to make him feel comfortable and then he took advantage of Mike. That's why he takes people's kindness as them being too nice and thinking they'll try to do the same thing Bugs father did to him.
He was uncomfortable because he was sexually abused as a child by his step dad so when guys come off too friendly he see pass the friendly and see the perv in them those he dnt see perv in has to build his trust slow
It's crazy how a character that wasn't introduced until season 4 and was "just a boy" ended up being my favorite character on a show filled with amazing characters.
yeah me too, I can relate to his story of him coming up in so many ways and the fact he was putting in work. The show captured so much of street realism....very well done
That scene when Chris beats little "BUGGS" daddy to death is intense....The man was a molester, and Michael wasn't having it on his little brother...But what got me is the way chris beat him, like it was personal, like it was him that got molested...i would have found a way to get him away from my brother too, and it wouldn't have been CPS either...
+scarbro mangler yeah I got that, but with your FISTS.....any boxer will tell you, your fists cant pound a human skull for long without you feeling it too in your knuckles.....that's why people generally grab a BLUDGEON of some sort....all I saw chris using for the beatdown, was his FISTS......unless his RAGE numbed him!!!!
Michael was one of the best characters in a show filled w/ great characters. I saw a lot of parallels w/ Michael and D'Angelo, 2 guys who really didn't belong in "the game" but ended up in it due to circumstances beyond their control. IMHO the most heartbreaking scene of all 5 seasons was when Michael dropped Bug off at his aunt's home. Michael knew he couldn't get out, but was determined to protect his brother.
I feel like Dee had more in common with Neymond. Both didn’t want to be in the game but they came from family that made a name for themselves already. They both felt like they had to live up to that expectation. Neymond was one of the few character in the show that broke the cycle thanks to bunny and bey for seeing the truth and letting him leave the game.
Always wished I had a brother like Michael to look out for me. But heart is heart, don't matter if you are blood or not. If you don't got it, you will never be good at anything. Even being a sibling. Michael had one of the biggest hearts in the game.
8:14 When Marlo's crew shot Cutty, he showed Michael he really cared about him. Michael was willing to wait with him for the ambulance. Cutty sent him away to go with Marlow's crew. That was the end for Michael. Cutty wanted him to stay but he knows the code of the street. Michael had to leave. So sad.
This is, hands down, one of the best Wire edits I’ve seen on TH-cam. This entire thing was powerful AF. Michael lowkey the most underrated character on this show
I come back every couple months and cry my eyes out then man up and continue. This video keeps me humble and help me to move forward with how I used to be.
What's sad is out of the four boys profiled, Michael had the 2nd best outcome. Randy just became cannon fodder for another gang leader, and Dookie became Bubbles.
Kennard I feel became the next Bird or maybe marlo. I wanna say bird because of his foul mouth and wasn't entirely smart or had tactics to be marlo. And I imagine donut will continue to be donut just caught in the middle doing his own thang
I just noticed something else about the scene where Chris and Snoop kill June Bug. When the little kid runs out of the house, Mike is about to shoot him, but he stops, because he knows the kid is innocent. Parallels can be drawn to the time when Omar and Brother Mouzone killed Stringer Bell, and Omar holds his gun at the cowering construction worker, but then leaves the man unharmed. Mike's embodiment of Omar began earlier than most people expected.
If u saw the last episode it shows everybody now are emulating the those from the beginning showing how its all a cycle. For instance, Mike becomes like omar, Marlo becomes a mixture of stringer and avon, Slim charles becomes prop joe, they show two random hustlers who are supposed to be bodie and poot, Chris becomes wee bay, snoop died cause there was no female from the originals to emulate
Eziokilla9595 Michael is formed as the next reincarnation of Omar (even though hes much shitter in comparison) which is shown in one of the last scenes in --30--
The Wire is such a masterpiece. Watching Michaels scenes alone give you a direct perspective on how male figures failed him all around. He was a good dude and tried to be smart but the streets was all around him. Couldn’t trust no one.
@@Daemon1995_ legacy? More like pain and endless sleepiness nights, having to have eyes behind your back. Not really having a good friend or anyone to close to you
The first interaction between Marlo and Mike was great! He called him a little bitch and Mike stood up to it. Marlo was impressed. “ Big paws on a puppy”
So we've went from shows like The Wire to Empire??? I'd KILL for a season 6 Edit: appreciate the love. Btw, IMO Power is full of overacting and the music takes out any sense of realism from the show. Only reason I compared the two shows is because there are folks out here who are literally trying to compare the shows
Marva Champion One thing I didn't like was how Namond was the one who went on to have a good life, while Michael had to go on the run, and it's assumed was gonna be running the streets the rest of his life. I say that cause Namond was a piece of shit, he was always acting like a badass and fuckin with Dukie, while Michael always tried to do the right thing, he took care of his brother, didn't accept handouts, and always had Dukie's back. It's fucked up how Namond was the one who went on to do well
Jeremy Forczyk I agree! The only reason Namond got the opportunity was because of his father and several others looking out! Namond was a punk, and had he been the one left in Mike's position, he wouldn't survive three days! Mike on the other hand, had to fend for himself all of his life, which is why he ended up the way he did, a survivor by any means!
Marva Champion Yea definitely. And I think that was why Michael was so loyal to Dukie cause they both had to grow up with having dope fiends for parents. So while everyone else (especially Namond) made fun of Dukie for smelling bad and having dirty clothes, Michael understood what he was going through, and knew there was nothing he could do about it
One of my favorite character arks of all time. This was such a well written show. The scene where Michael is asking Chris for help. Chris asks why. Michael doesn't say anything. Chris took 1 look at him and knew what was happening. Nothing else needed to be said. Then my suspicions were confirmed when Chris goes full rage mode on Bug's father. Chris was probably abused too when he was younger and that played into him helping Michael. Yes, he wanted to recruit him. But I think Chris would have done it anyway even if Michael didn't join after. And in the end of the series when he becomes the next Omar. Simply amazing
Michael is one of my favourite characters ! this show is so raw. The shit he went through is what people in the hood go thru everyday. I never watched any other show with so many relatable experiences to my own life
This show was so amazing, the character depth was something you don’t see any more. All the kids had such sad plot lines, other than maybe Naamon. Michael, Dookie, Randy, all heart breaking stories.
Chris told on himself by spitting on the guy after he beat him to death. Saliva is DNA and leaving DNA is equivalent to leaving a note with all of your info on it.
Marqus Booker to be completely honest, I don’t think the police would care enough to even go that far to find out who the killer is, they got too many people dying and not enough good police to help.

I feel like Chris probably developed an emotional dead zone to get through being molested, and that "place" in his head is a tool he used to be able to kill anyone he needed to whenever called for without any emotion, even if it's just an innocent security guard at a convenience store (or two!)

@Nathaniel Baxter yes but not only to survive. He did enjoy the power. He grew up being the victim and he learned at a young age he needs to be the aggressor to survive. And he enjoyed it. He didn't do things because he is altruistic. He did it so that he would be on top

But out of all of them, I think Randy's story was the most depressing.

When Marlo's crew shot Cutty, he showed Michael he really cared about him.
Michael lowkey the most underrated character on this show
this is one of the best vids on youtube, thank you very much for creating it, its the background music that really makes it special
Bruh that's it .. I am watching the wire again .. this show is the realest of all time . Love .
Just imagine, this is just one of the story lines from The Wire. Best TV series ever.
Tbh.... D'Angelos crew..... Mike.... and Ziggy had great stories
@@shiestyrecords3225 ziggy ?! that is not an answer i expect to hear :) what made you like his story especially?
@@jameskim6627 in a way his was he most subtle yet most understandable amd most unvalued... he never had anythiing going but he kept trying
Damn this music is PERFECT. So eerie and mysterious. Goes so well with the video.
Louis Garday Randy should be fine. Hopefully.
Randy became Bodie
Namond had the best outcome
Kennard I feel became the next Bird or maybe marlo. I wanna say bird because of his foul mouth and wasn't entirely smart or had tactics to be marlo. And I imagine donut will continue to be donut just caught in the middle doing his own thang
@@Black14825 nah Randy became Marlo
I just noticed something else about the scene where Chris and Snoop kill June Bug. When the little kid runs out of the house, Mike is about to shoot him, but he stops, because he knows the kid is innocent. Parallels can be drawn to the time when Omar and Brother Mouzone killed Stringer Bell, and Omar holds his gun at the cowering construction worker, but then leaves the man unharmed. Mike's embodiment of Omar began earlier than most people expected.
Agreed, but I also think their is an added element to that scene where the little kidis about the same age as his brother. M
Oh, for sure. The reasoning might be different, but the humanizing element is still present.
FAMIZ WAYNE I know that, I'm just saying that the parallels began to formulate even before the final episode.
Omar reincarnation
My thoughts exactly
Baby Ohso Who cares if he was gay nobody was fucking wit Omar.
the ending pretty much follows his legacy
@@Daemon1995_ legacy? More like pain and endless sleepiness nights, having to have eyes behind your back. Not really having a good friend or anyone to close to you
The circle continues
The first interaction between Marlo and Mike was great! He called him a little bitch and Mike stood up to it. Marlo was impressed. “ Big paws on a puppy”
It’s funny how they made Cutty look creepy as hell every time he talked to him
So we've went from shows like The Wire to Empire??? I'd KILL for a season 6
Edit: appreciate the love. Btw, IMO Power is full of overacting and the music takes out any sense of realism from the show.
Only reason I compared the two shows is because there are folks out here who are literally trying to compare the shows
Youngins too soft and stupid for shows like this nowadays
Anton Chigur not to mention they looking for that "fast food" type of TV drama instead of the "slow cooking" buildup that is much more satisfying
Ur right i would love a season 6 over any other show
one of the best shows created!! never gets old
I agree
One of the realest shows
The realist show
Haven't watched any Wire (or much TV at all) in 10 years. Coming back to this now is powerful stuff. Incredible.
Mike Lee was a boss! Owned by no one and feared no one!
So while everyone else (especially Namond) made fun of Dukie for smelling bad and having dirty clothes, Michael understood what he was going through, and knew there was nothing he could do about it
this was a great edit
Michael is a real role model for all kids of all colors who go through hard situations. 💯
I like Michael he's favorite character of the wire
Mike always been a fascinating character. Dealing with what he dealt with, so many kids are still going through that right now.
It's just a show that sticks with you all your life... Thanks god for the people creative enough to make this show.. just a masterpiece. Great edit.
"Damn you grew" like he was disappointed.
Don't really know what he was ... but it was sick
It seemed to have a creepy double meaning🤮
At 6:20 Michael snapped and went 0 too 100 quick 😂 look how dude looking at him with braids "Everybody just too muthfukin friendly"😂😂😂
I never watched any other show with so many relatable experiences to my own life
That look Chris gave mike @6:48 just explained what needed to be done with out so many words
It was hair
Just because your saliva is on a corpse does not prove that you murdered that person.
wilson blauheuer no but it’s gets the police looking into you something a killer doesn’t need or want.
it wasnt just the spit, he beat the man with his bare hands, that left all kinds of DNA b4 he even spit
Bruhhh it’s so wholesome seeing mike taking care of little bug 😭
Brilliant story.... Not all people who turn bad are bad, most people do the best they can with what they have...
Most people just providing for their loved ones
Damn....this was actually brilliantly put together. Peace
