Love the tips especially about breaking up the salt in the plastics. Really helped me out on the tubes and flukes. For me Zoom speed craw is great. I trim the curl off the claws so they are just flat. Fish them weightless in 2-3 foot deep creeks.
last year, I found a pack of these old style craws at a outdoor yard sale ( Green Pumpkin) and weeks later I was fishing a local lake and ran out of rage craws, So I dug out these old school lures and caught a 5lbs largemouth and 2 more 3lbs fish, within an hour, Texas rigged with an EWG hook , so yes these " OLE-SKOOL " craws really do still work !!!
I used that craw on my jigs when there was nothing but pork frogs , it was the first plastic trailer we used and it works
V and M makes a nice craw jig trailer , it’s kind of thin and flat like a Zoom super chunk , but there is claws on it
I remember as kids, before the millions of different creature baits, me and Timmy Horton were shoving those things up into old school (gitzits) tubes to make fatter craws with lots tentacles. Worked great then.

I still use Guido Bugs and Hale's craw worms. Like you Zoom chunks get the most use but the old ones still work.

Zoom makes a Road Kill Craw and Magnum road kill craw. Seem to run small batches and just a couple colors.
I don't know if you have done a video on frog fishing. I have a tough time with which one is the best one and if you had tips on modifying it. You are my go to for bait mods.

I sometimes would have a debate with a fishing buddy about rigging plastics. Could you have rigged it the other way with expectations of similar results? Hope this makes sense.
I am not Randy but take into consideration the desired effect you are trying to gain. Swapping ends will change Fall Rate, Glide Slope, Ability to slip through on different grasses, and also bottom bait posture: Craw appears unaware and defenseless = Easy Snack or Defensive posture = possible reaction or antagonized instigated strike
I still use the gene larew salt craw in the junebug bubble gum color. Still works just fine

I used to have similar craws in black and blue and brown and orange back in the 80s. I think Zoom made them. I never caught anything on them because I did not know what I was doing. I'm still not good at using soft plastics.

Wow. I just got 1 pack of these bass magic fighting craws in a full luggage bag I bought for $50 that had what I figured at around $12-1400 of tackle when new. A buddy bought a storage unit for $500 that was full of lucky strike bait about 12 years ago and made $4,000 and gave tons away like he basically did for me
So Randy I really enjoy your teachings. I still fish the Gene Lerew craws here around Stillwater OK. they have always worked well and people over look because of marketing they are the bestcraws in my opinion to much hype on New But that's Marketing . Thanks for what you do Keep it up

I just bought "salty craws" that I bought from a local bait shop. I have seen them in several "local" bait/tackle shops. No brand name just plain zip locks. I bought them because of there realisticish look and size. Thought they would be good for flipping texas or shaky. Btw they were 2$ for 10.

I agree with bass wanting a certain profile I've thrown a skirted twin tail grub and caught bass and had a same color size jig with a twin tail trailer and didn't get bit ! Crazy that bass notice suttel differences wonder why we got so much soft plastics with us ! Even in my lunch bag ! LOL !

Yes it is , I have used Gene larew for 25 yrs on a 1oz1/2 jig and Tx rig 3/4 oz . Year round but in the dead of winter and summer are the deadliest all day . You will catch your bass of a life time . If you ever heard of Old screwlock jigs by Terry oldham give it a try . Pair or w lilgator n black blue 6"saltcraw you don't no what your missing. My style from lake Amistad.
I have a tackle box full of craws that i bought back in the early 80s and another box full of lizards they still produce fish all the time for me, just like the old west coast green wienies I have 2 boxes filled with old school green wienies and they work as good as they always did.
The Larew Salt Craw is still out there, and Zoom still makes a craw worm

I'm 25 and really enjoy randy talk about baits that I have in my grandpa's tackle boxes that were some of the ones he didn't get to show me how he used. I've got a jointed carved wood lure and some weird double hook spinner worms I've wanted to use but too afraid to hang them up so I'm replicating them
@@calebz1448 you can still get the Do-Nothin and Scoundrel worms. The worm harnesses as well as the spinners have stayed alive with support from the walleye community

Hey, what's your opinion on barbless hooks for hardbaits? And what about changing trebles for singe hooks? Of course not for tournament fishing. :)
My opinion isn’t worth much.... If you’re going to keep everything you catch, minimizing injury to the fish isn’t something to worry about. I consider it a good day if I catch even one.
Do you believe a craw with less action is better in cold water and one with more flapping action in warmer?

Please don’t try to explain it, the less we talk it about it, the better secret it remains. I keep telling everyone “Have you heard about the newest thing that is being leaked out and was a pro secret last year and was the key to multiple wins and numerous top tens on the circuit?”
Gene larew and original salt craw is the only ones I bye today , and another that was a changer was the hibbdon craw that you can't find anymore . I've still got some but Ole gene larew was it long before Yamamoto came along . Something else that was a game changer back in the day that was bought out and done away with was bulldog lures , there first gamagatsu use jigs and spinner baits was the best ever nothing compares today , miss the old school . Another that was out for a while that I caught a shit load of bass on was the bill dance eel , the one that looked like a tad pole with a bill , good times before bass fishing got super popular and everyone had a boat in the garage and rude ass tournament anglers would cut you off just because they were in a tournament .

Comparing the zoom lil craw to the older salt craw you show?...I have an extremely hard time in believing that bass see that difference.
Comparing to say a rage tail or z craw yes absolutely.
Im with you tbh. Those two were very similar.
There is more nuanced differences between the two as in density, buoyancy, salt content, and flexibility= breathability
