Let's hope that it is a QA/consistency problem that gets fixed with the Missile 3. The Cat X is good, but I really, really like the way the Missile swings. Light, great taper, decent barrel, and suspiciously good on mishits. If you get beat on an inside fastball, you do get rung up, but the Missile still gets the ball into the outfield with good velocity. The Cat X seems better on the hands than the Missile (or at least "feels" better), maybe it's the squishy wrap or something, but I just prefer the "firm" feel of the Missile. Both the Missile and Cat have great pop, and are super lightweight, so you're essentially trading max pop for more barrel forgiveness.

Stinger customer service said the Missile 3 is the same except for the end cap. Only a handful tested over the limit so I’m getting from them that they didn’t change anything. Probably just made sure they were all good to go before shipping

Actually, the BBCOR tests performance along the whole bat. That's because companies use to engineer hitting zones that made spots on the bat better than where the hot spots were suppose to be. The BBCOR formula accounts for where on the bat the ball hits. This might be where the missile 2 failed, because top end performance wise it just seemed like a tad bit better victus vandal and definitely under the voodoo. It might've even failed the MOI scale because it was SUPER light and some of by tests said it was lower than it should've been. This might be why it is only banned in some lengths
The Meta's ABI failure could've been for 2 reasons. Durability in of itself is not the reason because the ABI tests bats till they break. Either A, at some point during the break in process, it tested above the .5 mark or its sweet spot performance didn't decrease across the length of the barrel by at least .018 from its maximum. Honestly, considering what the meta does best, I'd say it's the second reason

That meta still has loud ping sound and nor the hollow knock. As you said the bat was banned bc once it got to the point it was supposed to break it didn't. That bar you're using is still hundreds of hits away. My son has a 32" that has well over 1000 hits on it and it hits and sounds like a U trip

So, would you say that it was just a fluke set of batches that made it out from production that got the missile banned? One of the kids on the travel team I coach had one and it definitely felt pretty similar to the voodoo one (which 3 kids swing currently). Would you also recommend swinging the 34 inch version since it's so good and light if you can handle it?

the team players are shorting themselves when swinging. They need to throw up the ball to themselves like a coach. If they cant hit a ball every time they need to work on it. It will work on the preload and hands out front. Rocks into the lake or pond playing a homerun game past the buoys is a good one too

I wish you’d explain what bbcor and drop 5 and all the other jargon means. I never played baseball so I don’t know what any of it means but I really enjoy the science behind what makes a bat a good bat. Sure I could google it but it’s always better to have a human being explain it while offering their personal insight. You’ve made me pay more attention to baseball and the more I learn the more I can enjoy it.
Drop 5 is when say you have 33 in. bat that is 28 ounces, this is a drop 5 because 33-28=5

bbcor is just the name of the certification for drop 3 bats. It is the standards for a bat to be considered legal. Bbcor tries to keep the performance of metal bats more similar to wood bats.

not really if you understand how the process works. it's a good faith system that relies on the bat companies to provide retail samples for approval.

Do they get banned for meeting standards but exceeding standards as well? I can imagine the tech for the bats is designed to match requirements or else the manufacturer wouldn’t release it
typically the companies will take a set of bats for each model.. internally test them to make sure they pass spec before sending them in to get certified. usually there's an average that's used on retail bats because there's no way to make sure every single bat is identical. once the average starts exceeding the certified rating by a significant amount then they'll look at banning it. likely there's an uncontrollable variable in the design of the missile 2 that shows up specifically in the 33" bat that doesn't show up in the other sizes. it's not uncommon for bat performance to be different depending on the size of the bat which is why you can't take the numbers from a 32" bat and expect to see the same thing from a 34" bat.
BBBCOR is the baseball coefficient of restitution, which is a measure of how efficiently the bat transfers momentum to the baseball. The standard is that this measurement remains below .50. If the bat is below that threshold, it wouldn’t be banned by any means. It just wouldn’t be very good. Manufacturers work very hard to get their bats right up to that lien.
The biggest issue is production consistency. The difference between a bbcor bat and a besr bat in wall thickness is about .02 inches of difference plus a restrictor ring. There's very tight margins for error, so a bat that gets close to that limit may exceed it with production inequalities and if the test bat happens to be a bat with thinner walls, the whole line gets scrapped
