    We eat lingonberry jam (tyttebærsyltetøy) with many «meat with gravy» dishes in Norway, so you were spot on with adding it to this meal. The most common such dish is kjøttkaker ("meat cakes") served with gravy, a puré/stew of rehydrated and boiled dried green peas (or boiled cabbage in a bechamel sauce with nutmeg) and boiled potatoes. And with dishes of venison/game («vilt"), but sometimes redcurrant jelly is prefered, or rowan berry jelly.
    Joikakaker has recently been rebranded as Vilti by the producer. The advertising of the 1960’s no longer felt right. Joik is a vocal music tradition of the sami people, and the whole branding with appropriation of sami culture to sell a product that is 100 % produced by a majority company in the south of the country mainly for the majority population had become outdated.

    When Shrimpy started naming off Santa's reindeer as he was plating up the meatballs I couldn't help but chuckle because I have a warped sense of humor.

    Had reindeer dumpling once in Germany, just the one, a cricket ball size with extra suet and a strange orange coloured gravy. That was for a 6 a.m breakfast and kept me going all day.

    Venison has to be one of the best meats on the planet. Our little Island is overrun with invasive species of it and we as a nation barley eat it.
    Wow £7- 5 years ago 🤯

    I don't care much about the ingredients or any arguments about "authenticity," I think they looked absolutely delicious and I only wish that we could get foods like this in Australia.
    However, having said that, IKEA stores in Australia all sell their famous Swedish Meatballs along with all their trimmings, including Lingonberry Jam, and they're available to eat in the IKEA store cafeterias, or they can be purchased in complete take-home ready-to-cook kits.
    I have an IKEA store not too far from my place in Sydney, and I often drive past and I look longingly at the huge advertising poster for the Swedish Meatballs, and I keep telling myself: "One day, you *MUST* go there and buy some!
    Unfortunately, "one day" is still to come...

    Having lingonberry jam with meat comes from Finland. But since swedes are close neighbours so obviosly they picked it up :P

    Recently I made a playlist of your Weird Stuff In A Can playlist (reversed the order so I can watch em in order) & wanted to ask if the most recent one is in there 3x inadvertently or just has the same thumbnail 3x or...?

    Good job on the lingonberry jam, that's the proper way to serve Scandinavian meatballs 👍👏👌

      I thought Swedes and Norwegians were on some kind of subtle war and quite despise each other, but that might also be just a joke lost in translation... or maybe a bit of both

    • @GigaBoost
      @GigaBoost 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@derrmeister what are you talking about? What does this have to do with lingonberries

    • @derrmeister
      @derrmeister 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The meatballs were a product of Norway and the jam was a product of Sweden

    • @GigaBoost
      @GigaBoost 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@derrmeister that's not too strange. Norwegian and Swedish culture is quite similar. We have a joking rivalry going on but relations between our countries is actually very good

    • @derrmeister
      @derrmeister 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah, that's what I was uncertain of. if it was just joking or had a lot of truth to it.
      Thanks you could clear that up for me!

    Neat, you say Santa's last two reindeers' names the German way (Donner and Blitzen) instead of the Dutch way (Dunder and Blixsem). Neither are "right" but I've personally taken to saying them the Dutch way, the way they were when the poem "A Visit from Saint Nicholas" was first penned (for no reason other than to be different, I suppose, or to use it to bring this up whenever the situation invites it)

    Last year or so they rebranded the whole thing to be more politically correct, its now called "Vilti" and comes in a (foil lined) cardboard carton after 60 years in a offensive tin.. Its £5-6 locally for the carton now.
