Absolutely! Hope you enjoy. :) My biggest tip is to simply ooh and ahh while it smokes and then check the bottom of the drink for any solid pieces once it's done smoking. Only once in my many times using dry ice did a piece not fully evaporate. I tossed the cocktail and started over. You definitely only want to serve it to responsible people for that reason!
Someone put dry ice in my uncle's cocktail at a party and he didn't understand the danger and swallowed a chunk of it. Thought it was like regular ice. Tragically that was it. We miss him. 😢
I once smuggled dry ice in a series of paper towels from work (never use a thermos flask). I served cups of tea to my family that evening with them bubbling and steaming away at the top. Kids thought it was funny, wife was not impressed.
so its safe as long as you wait for it to evaporate...fail to mention how if someone accidentally swallows some of this or it gets stuck in their throat they die...
I have never served dry ice in anything but glass so I can't speak to anything else. Sorry! It's fun to have it in a glass though because the glass will get frosty and super chilled :)
It depends on the size of the chunk. If you left the dry ice whole and put it in a large bowl under a punch bowl or something and added water to it throughout the night, it would smoke for hours but adding a small chunk to a drink lasts about 5-10 minutes. Hope that helps! I served a dry ice cocktail at my Hocus Pocus party last night (video coming soon!) and we had three rounds of cocktails with fresh dry ice in each cocktail. Everyone loved it!
@@TheRoseTable thank you! I don’t think we have one of those machines at the local grocery stores in my state. I was trying to find it online but no luck
A question: is the cocktail at the end "sparkling"? Or maybe is it just too cold, so that the CO2 remains in solution and does not "sparkle"? (Kind of drinking very cold beer)
what could i use if putting in a punch bowl? i would dip the drink out of the bowl into glasses and not want to get any of the ice.. i just want the bowl to fog.
Hi there! It fully evaporates and smokes as it evaporates. There's nothing left in your drink after that so the drink is perfectly safe to consume. You just don't want to touch (or obviously consume) the dry ice while it's in its solid form.
It's definitely better to be safe than sorry! I would NEVER serve dry ice in a situation where I am not personally inspecting every single drink to make sure it has fully evaporated.
That’s correct! You don’t want to consume or touch dry ice in it’s solid form. It skips the liquid form and goes straight to gas, completely evaporating out of your drink. It takes about ten minutes for a chunk in a glass to evaporate and then it’s safe to drink. Just make sure there isn’t any remaining solid dry ice left in the glass.
You cannot consume dry ice in its solid form but like i said in the video, it completely evaporates in liquid in about ten minutes, leaving no trace of dry ice in your drink. That's why the drinks are then safe to drink.
Hi there! All of the drinks shown in this video are on therosetable.com. Just type "dry ice" into the search bar at the bottom and you'll see them all :)
You could; however, dry ice sinks to the bottom so honestly I'd be more nervous drinking from a straw. It only lasts 5-10 minutes in a cocktail so I just tell my friends to enjoy and take pics with it and then when it's done smoking and the dry ice has evaporated, then they have a super well chilled drink to enjoy.
Great questions! You can absolutely use dry ice in non alcoholic drinks. If you click on the article, you’ll see it in orange juice for a Halloween breakfast. So cute! It does react poorly to dairy though. I tried it in a cold coffee drink with milk and it didn’t smoke like it normally does. It bubbled over the glass and was a mess. To answer your second question, dry ice doesn’t melt. It goes directly from the solid stage to the gas stage. A small chunk for an individual drink takes about ten minutes to evaporate. If you look in the glass, there is nothing left. It left the glass via the smoke. You’re left with the exact same drink that’s SUPER chilled (often a frosted glass) unlike with normal ice, where your drink is left watered down.
Great question! I would actually not use a straw because you cannot consume dry ice in its solid form and a small piece might get sucked up through the straw. The safest thing to do is wait until it's fully evaporates, check the bottom of the glass to make sure there's no solid left in there, and then you can drink it like any other drink
How long does the dry ice last once you bring it home? Like how do you store it? I want to use it for a festival and if I buy it Friday will it still work Saturday throughout the day?
It depends on the size of the dry ice. Small pieces will evaporate quickly. A whole block will last about 12-15 hours. I set it in an open cooler in the garage.
Dry ice is solid carbon dioxide. It completely evaporates as gas on its own, but quicker when submerged in liquid. There is no dry ice left in the glass after the drink stops smoking. I'll do a more detailed video showing that this Halloween. You just don't want to touch it or keep it enclosed in a small space. Otherwise it is safe to use in drinks because you don't actually consume it. It's just a fun way to chill a drink with dramatic effect!
Hi! Thanks for the video! Question: Is it safe to drink the cocktail if you use a straw to drink it before the dry ice has evaporated? For example, if I get a jumbo margarita glass, add dry ice to the bottom, then add ice on top just in case? That way the straw won’t touch the dry ice. Help please! I really want to do this but I’m so nervous lol
So sorry for the late reply! Most likely, yes. The only way it wouldn’t be would be if part of the dry ice was small enough to go up your straw. It evaporates in about 10 minutes so the safest bet is to wait did it to stop smoking, lift the glass up so you can see the bottom and check for any solid dry ice. You just don’t want to consume dry ice in it’s solid form.
Many grocery store chains carry it. I get mine at Kroger. It's always in a big container that says "Dry Ice" in the front of the store, usually next to where they keep bags of ice.
Cool for pictures and displays but dear lord don't put it in anything someone is actually going to drink. You can't control your guests or keep track of everyone. This is just unnecessarily dangerous
I would absolutely never serve this in a situation where I can't inspect all the drinks. I will only do this when I have a few friends over and can personally handle all of the dry ice and inspect the drinks after the smoke dissipates.
Finally a simple and concise explanation of how to use dry ice in a cocktail! Going to use this when I make a few drinks to entertain. Thank you!

Yeah be careful or it will kill you if you use it incorrectly
Very informative and straight to the point

Correct, you cannot consume it in its solid form. There are way more details in the blog post. It's very important to use it responsibly!
I would just use it as display
You could absolutely do that!
Cool video, thanks!
Super helpful! Thank you
You're so welcome! Be safe.
This gives me so much anxiety 😆 as easy as you make it seem I'm still too afraid 😭
It's very important to know what you're doing and never consume dry ice in its solid form.
Also if you handle dry ice incorrectly it can give you a bad burn
Love it.i will also use it as a display.Pls any link to where i can buy from?

I drink it in all of the episodes that are linked!
Can I use it for Red wine for my Mrs ?
Yes, it works just fine in wine :)
Yeah, but where to buy it seems to be a difficult task.

Thank you for this comment! I have never put dry ice in anything carbonated but it doesn't seem like a good idea to me to either.
Huh? Why? (Totally clueless here!!)

A question: is the cocktail at the end "sparkling"? Or maybe is it just too cold, so that the CO2 remains in solution and does not "sparkle"? (Kind of drinking very cold beer)
Great question! It does not sparkle. Dry ice does not water down not affect your drink accept that it super chills it.
I want to add to this and say that dry ice WILL make a carbonated drink go flat. You really want to use it in a juice-based drink in my opinion.
Where can I get the dry ice from plz??
Amazon
Is all dry ice food safe?
buy a steel mesh tea strainer ball and dunk that in your drink. then you can drink it while its still solid and smoking! YOU ARE KINDLY WELCOME!!!!!
Yep, absolutely!
