    "Jimi Hendrix was honored to attend a Rolling Stones recording session for Ruby Tuesday. It was really Brian Jones' session. He was the master of the sound, and the various exotic instruments he played all fused into a melodic experience that expanded the parameters of the Rolling Stones' sound. Ruby Tuesday became number one as they hung out together. Brian was ecstatic over its success. He loved to hear it by chance, on the radio in his Rolls Royce, in a club, or out of a solitary window they happened to pass. Brian would tell with great relish of how he and Keith Richards worked and worked on coloring, adding dramatic yet wispy touches here and there, alternating the mix between lead voice and background vocal harmonies, while interplaying exotic instruments. Sounds that were impossible to identify gave Ruby Tuesday an eternal air of mystery and yearning."--'Scuse Me While I Kiss the Sky: Jimi Hendrix: Voodoo Child, by David Henderson

      They were the best and still are! The songs are sooo nostalgie-cinema to me. My first love, and my last one in personal unity, we always heard STONES , we had one song for every moment of our life. When we were very young we nerved my mother, standing under the latern in our street in the evening hearing HAVE YOU SEEN YOUR MOTHER BABY, STANDING IN THE SHADOW with jis little cassette player, then the next song MOTHERS LITTLE HELPER... we heard LET'S SPEND THE NIGHT TOGETHER, when we hadn't seen each other for some days and had missed one another sooo much, we were so hot, we fell in bed, couldn't get off our cowboy boots

I loved Brian's recorder and also how Charlie switched to the low toms at 3:03 (instead of snare). As a 14yo I took it for granted that so much great music was being produced. Bill Wyman wrote in his book "Stone Alone" that they conceded to Ed to sing "Let's spend some time together" because they really wanted to promote the song at the time. He also wrote that mick looked up towards the ceiling every time he sang "Some time together." Also, Brian really did play the piano and recorder on the original studio version of "Ruby Tuesday!" Talented guy that Brian. Both songs recorded In November of (1966).

      Brian attempted to play an electric harpsichord on Ruby Tuesday but it was edited out when it clashed horribly with Jack Nitzsche's brilliant piano playing of the piano part that Keith wrote.
      Brian was directed and recorded his recorder part by Jack and Keith line by line and it was stitched together in the studio mix down.

      @williardbillmore5713 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@crowkid5553 The melody of Ruby Tuesday, as Mick sang it was 100% composed by Keith Richards when he wrote the lyrics. The recorder accompaniment that Brian played was based directly on the faux baroque piano part that Keith had composed and the lines were spoon fed for Brian to play line by line from Keith and pianist / arranger Jack Nitzsche. Each phrase Brian played was recorded separately and stitched together in the final mix down. Brian was never able to replicate his recorder part in subsequent live performances.

      @williardbillmore5713 well the reason he couldn't live was die to health and personal reasons, but there's conflicting reports about the melody part, or rather the countermelody which Brian plays

    • @williardbillmore5713
      @williardbillmore5713 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@crowkid5553 There is no "contrapuntal melody" per se in Ruby Tuesday. The lines that Brian was given to play could best be described as rhythmical triplets based on the triad chord structure of the piano alternately traded with cadence phrases that anticipate and lead the chord changes that support the sung melody.
      Brian had never created anything nearly this structurally complex in his entire career and he didn't here either. If anyone other than Keith could be credited with co-writing Brian's recorder accompaniment in Ruby Tuesday, it would have to be the brilliant pianist and arranger Jack Nitzsche who worked tirelessly and brilliantly with Keith on both sides of this recording.

    Brian Jones had so much Charisma, even though Mick was 'The showman' singing and dancing, while Brian sat there playing recorder in the background he still managed to be the coolest person on that stage and the one people really notice, even Brian's dress sense was way ahead of his time. There would be no Stones without the musical genius of Jones

      @Jim McCracken legendary these strange and classical instruments... difficult to see in a sixties band played by themselves... every body use guitar, drums and microphone... but double bass ans recorder??? in 1967? played by the members? NO ONE!!!!

      Bill Wyman while he was the ‘ original ‘ rock bass player who pretty much showed everybody how it was done, played so strangely, one way he played with neck up by his face then on here he is looking like he is playing the strings with a scrub brush.
      I’m always watching early performances of Bill to see if he is playing his original bass that he cut down the body and took all the metal frets off the neck. I understand that 100% of all Rolling Stones records had that instrument playing the bass up into the 1980s

      I do not think they were playing the music live here. Bill is not playing dubbler bass here, it is a recording of what I hears an electric bass, recorder could be played by Brian on the music tape. Or sombody else. Neither Bill or Brian was a legendary double bass/recorder player. With all respect. Actually calling them legendary on these instruments are disrespectful in many ways...
