This is a perfect example of buying a box of stuff nobody wants, repairing it, and providing channel content. TH-camrs do this all the time. It's good for your mental health, enjoyment for us, and good content for the channel! Can't wait to see these gems in future videos!
Excellent find! They will look very good after you get done with them. Right off the line, you have 2 Marx running motors ----- 3 running if you count the classic 1965 T-Bird.
That tender, though dirty, looks really good! The Santa Fe tender looks like mine from my 1829. Marx did a decent job on their hopper cars. I always liked the Marx window stripes because they had colors and in my view more realistic. I think the mystery piece is a toy telegraph. The rheostat was used for controlling power to insulated sections of track or circuits with street lights that would be more dim than running power. Never put anything in the garbage! Whenever I look at something like you have I try to imagine the families and children that must have been thrilled with them!
@ 12:00 That was a telegraph key, possibly made during WW2 by Lionel. The rheostats after the telegraph key were made by Lionel prewar to control E Unit locomotives with the old transformers that had point contacts without triggering the e-unit. The thing you threw out is a doorbell buzzer. you're welcome.
I don't think the CW key is Lionel. Usually the knobs are different and the corners arent as sharp. There would also normally be the Lionel L on the bottom. Missing a few parts but still a cool find!
I'm just saying what I wanted to say I hope it's okay saying it here anything that I think of I might say it here anywhere I hope it's okay. I wish I had somebody at home somebody in the 🚆 family A Friend that could repair any kind of trains I get.So I don't have 2 worrie about anything I want at train shows and not have to worry about it not working cuz I have a friend or a close family member that could do it for me and so i can just have a blast at train shows and not worry about anything like that.
One thing I akways liked about the Marx passenger cars was the full color passenger window strips, not just shadows.

The 2731 and the hopper are worth the buy you've done well Gary! The 2731 is gold in my book!
Marx motors are resilient !!! Like that Lehigh Valley hopper!!
Marx guy here, you hit the Jack Pot, Dust and dirt is part of restoration. Soke in soapy dishwater, rinse and make whoopy.
Nice finds. The rheostats are useful for setting a current level on the layout for accessories. I have used old towers as fire towers.
