    Please always check "Group delays". It is very important.

      Thanks, it’s been part of my reading lately as well! I’ll definitely go into it more when I build my ported boxes.

      @@TypicalBenYT That has to be done before build, otherwise you'll wast money & time, but get some mind.

      @@v-k883 yes thanks, I can experiment with it during software modelling.

    Great video Ben.
    I’ve spent a lot of time with modelling software but not yet built any of my plans as I’m still finishing my previous projects. Now I’m worried I’ll be disappointed when I make them ☹️.
    I’m really surprised that the porting made so little difference! I know the models usually look better than real life but you could hardly see a difference.
    Might it be worth measuring the TS parameters of your speakers rather than using manufacturers specs. I wonder if that could account for some of the difference?

      Great suggestion, thanks. I wouldn't be too quick to assume you'll be disapointed though - it's been pointed out that my measuring technique might be lacking so I'm going to have to look into it a bit more before drawing conclusions I suppose. Always learning!

    Sealed enclosures rule for size and sound in my opinion. They typically need a bit more power to drive them, but they stay cleaner longer than ported subs. Once you hear that Pddddddd port noise, you simply cannot un-hear it! Personally, I've never heard a ported speaker period that didn't suffer from Pdddddd. That's why I always stick a sock in them 😁! Sealed enclosures normally take very well to some EQ work. You should have no problem bringing up that low end if you have the power to drive it. Cheers 🍻

      I agree that sealed boxes sound better than ported (bass-reflex).

      @@TypicalBenYT:
      Don't forget about passive radiators. You can get so much more base in SPL without the Pddddddd port noise. And they are tunable with a wrench rather than port length or enclosure size. Cheers 🍻

      @@Finite-Tuning Thanks - I did have a quick go at modelling a PR enclosure but I don't know enough to really understand it yet.
      Do you think I'd get away with a smaller enclosure (compared to a port) using a radiator?

    It's Hertz for singular & plural, after Heinrich Hertz. Formally, SI units are never pluralised anyway, so it's '10 kilogram', not '10 kilograms' etc.

      The fact that in ends in a Z rather than an S should have given it away!

    You have to measure both, woofer and pipe as near as possible and then combine both results ... looking at your measurements let me think that you did not do this ... sorry, if I am wrong

    • @TypicalBenYT
      @TypicalBenYT  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Thorsten - are you saying to reposition the mic to measure the output of the port separately?

    • @MrToschek
      @MrToschek 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TypicalBenYT , yes ... just locate the mic as near as possible to the woofer ... that gives measurement 1 ... then position the mic as near as possible to the port ... that gives measurement 2 .. afterwards you have to combine them ... that is what I remember ... but I can not tell you how to combine these 2 measurements in the right way ... hope that helps
