Just to add, I don't keep my beaters super close to the drum head. I keep them away from the head a good deal. The footboard hight is still low enough for my tastes even with the beaters pretty far back. That was a concern for me with the Shortboard pedals being that the beater and foot board are not independently adjustable on any Axis pedals. But everything feels great on the Shortboards. The Longboard pedals are also great , they just have a different feel then the Shortboards. Plus, I like to rest my heel on the heel plates when I'm not playing. Can't really do that on the Longboards. Though one can still somewhat rest on the Longboards where the hinge is under the pedal board. But it's still a very different kind of feel then resting on a heel plates. I also find that the Shortboards hit a bit harder then the Longboards.
