    I saw the title and expected something crazy like using Copenhagen as the bedding compound. Instead, that looks like a very decent job.

    I know this is old , but you guys really made this alot harder then it needed to be . Liquid epoxy like ??? Jb weld clear 2 part epoxy literally pours in. Sets clear in about 45 mins. I tapped the lug and edges of the handguard. Packed loose steel nuts in the cavities. Take up space and add weight. Mixed then poured in epoxy. Done. Took me literally 25mins.

    Bedding the recoil lug is essentially all that is needed. Bedding the rear mounting screw is optional but not necessary for accuracy. I bed every rifle that comes into gun safe and each one shoots 1/4 MOA @ 100 yards. I use JB Marine for medium. I push the action forward when inserting the recoil lug into the the medium in the stock. I use a thin coat of grease (and shoe polish in any holes) around the recoil lug. One wants the recoil lug to impact the bedding medium when the rifle is fired, not the wood or composite material. The bedding material ought to take up any space between the rear of the recoil lug and the front of the stock.

    I bedded mine with a piece of carbon arrow on the front 7 inches of the stock. I had to cut slots in the existing area. I did not want that much weight but I did fill the arrow

    I just got a Savage A17, just did a break-in and shot about 50 rounds total. At 90 yards it's shooting groups up to about 1.95" 3 rounds, not impressed at all. It's got the synthetic stock, and I was hoping for better groups. I've got a Savage B-Mag 17 WSM and after bedding that it's a tack driver, best group right after bedding was .07" 3 shots. Do you think it's worth trying to bed this A17 synthetic? Now I wish I got the heavy barrel in the Boyds stock! Argh!! The next issue is the Accu-Trigger in this guns Sucks compared to the B-Mag version.

    I've always heard the tang should be free floating on a savage

    I liked it until you filled forward of the barrel lug . I hope it's free floating.

      That's actually common with these hollow synthetic stocks. It's not bedding, shouldn't touch the barrel. It's just to reinforce the stock's forearm and stiffen it up. Specifically because the barrel will no longer be contacting it.

      Surprisingly well.! Play doe was a little new to me, normally use modeling clay. But the rifle is shooting 1/2 groups all day long now.!

      where did you put the bedding and play doe? i have this model rifle and am planning on bedding it in next week.

      I sanded and bedded all of the action. I went about 1/2 in front of the lug also. I have bedding all the way to the end of the stock to make it more ridged however the betting only contacts the action and lug area. Hope this help and good luck

    what did you use for the release agent???

    • @vaughnprecision
      @vaughnprecision  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wayne Hartneck it’s the release agent that comes in the Brownells kit

    • @isellcatlitter
      @isellcatlitter 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      thanks, i have seen other people use spray on cooking oil, shoe polish, and car wax...i think the kit is the way to go.

      Wayne Hartneck ya I’ve seen all kinds of things used, and most work fine. But the kit is so simple.! I got a few other videos that are much better and go more in-depth on the bedding process. Thanks for checking out the channel

    • @vaughnprecision
      @vaughnprecision  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      supra320man we used AcraGlass gel. It's a good product, I've used it on several rifles now. No air bubbles like the apoxy

    • @supra320man
      @supra320man 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I have heard that it works great, I see that it comes in 4 oz kits, is that the size that you used?

    • @vaughnprecision
      @vaughnprecision  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      supra320man yep, and that kit is enough to do 2-4 rifles. Well worth the small cost.
