My upgrade kit arrived earlier today, and I'm thrilled to have already made good use of it. Thank you for introducing this upgrade! It is the answer to more dreams than just mine, I'll guess.
If I can make a suggestion. Watching this video I noted that using a blade, or blade combo wider than the 1/8 inch spacing the jig was originally designed for will permanently change the size of the kerf as it extends through the jig, having the same effect on the two angled guides installed on the jig.
When, for example, one returns to using 1/8 inch strips after a 1/4 inch kerf has been cut, this'll leave one half of the back of the 1/8 inch strip against a diagonal fence without complete support, which might result in a rough cut that doesn't contribute to perfect final assembly or appearance.
I dealt with this by using double sided tape to install a discarded strip of useful length onto the diagonal fence. That strip receives the same 1/8 inch cut as the kumiko strip and provides entire-length backing as it all passes through the saw blade. If you think it's a good idea it might be useful to add a note like this to the instructions, for others to benefit from.
BTW, I hope you don't mind that I'm blaming you :), every time a family member comments on me often wandering around the house imagining how a bit of kumiko here and there would liven the place up a bit. We did the interior of the entire house using elements of Arts & Crafts, Mission and Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired detail. Kumiko lends itself wonderfully to enhancing this. It was your videos, and the equipment I got from you that made all this possible. Many, many thanks and all best wishes!

Hi, does your new sled 2.1 come with a bar for the miter slot on the table saw and if so is it the standard size?
Yes. It comes with a HDPE runner that is 3/4" x 3/8". That is a very common size for most table saws

Do you think your Kumiko jig will work on Festool CSC SYS 50?
I'm not familiar with the saw so I'm not entirely sure. It's a very small saw so you may need to modify the sled a bit. Also, because the blade is small, it may not be tall enough to make the proper depth of cuts in the angled fences area. I hope this helps
@@JTWoodworks I have the Festool saw as well. The maximum height of the blade is 1 3/8". The problem might be that I don't see any way to mount multiple blades on the arbor to get a thicker cut. Also the blades are REALLY THIN - 1.8 mm cut width, per Festool's website. How would the thin blades work with your jig? Wouldn't it necessitate using really thin wood? I like your jig! Really good design. A question - if you buy the 2.0 version, does it come with the 2.1 upgrade? Your website seems to say that, but I wasn't sure.
The V2 is no longer available and has been replaced with the V2.1 that includes the upgrade kit. The blade, strips, and registration key thicknesses should all be the same to achieve good results. You can likely still make kumiko with thin blades but it would have a slightly different/more delicate look. Unfortunately, this sled doesn't accommodate this saw's blade thickness. You're welcome to make modifications to it and make your own registration keys to better fit your saw
@@JTWoodworks Thanks for the response. It makes sense that the blade thickness would need to match the registration keys. Any issues with the distance from the saw's miter slot to the blade?
The runner under the sled is on the right side and I see the saw only has one miter slot that's on the left of the blade. You can relocate the runner but you may also need to make a new runner. The one included is 3/4"x3/8". Not sure what size that saw accommodates. Also, feel free to send me an email and we can discuss this further if you have more questions
On the 3/16” dados did you cut all of your pieces with the single blade and then move the blade 1/16” over and make all of the cuts again?
Nope. The blade is 3/16" thick

Your new sled is brilliant as it solves many accuracy issues.
Looking at your photos of the sled parts, I see a strip of polypropylene in the saw slot.
My saw has a 7mm mitre bar.... European saw.
I'm a lifelong woodworker of 74 years and I am still coming back to Kumiko.
I'm planning to purchase your improved sled soon.
