Big thanks to youtube users haru834 for showing the world the epoxy pipe bag trick
and Kanal von 61diemai for reminding me about brass.
I came back to watch this video. This is the video that started me off in luremaking about 9 years ago. Thank you
i have spent lot of time studying your bathtub and learnt a lot so thanks.
I'm pretty much amazed about the variety of different jigs you have thought of to make the working processes easier and more accurate , ...hats off to you , mate !
And , ....I'm happy to hear that I was seemingly able to provide a little input of some kind , .......looking forward to part two , ...always great to look over your shoulder , ...cheers, Dieter
You do very precise, beautiful work, Paul. An art form, to be sure.
i bought them about a year ago from ebay just to try, they cost about £4 and i thought they wouldn't last but hundreds of wires on they still look like new So a big up for Chinese manufacturing.. Cheers
thanks for showing how to do it without the heavy weight tools, just simple tools at reach, great video
saskaleb I made the original ones on the kitchen table in the caravan where i was staying and then went fishing which was a bit cool. Thanks
***** I am living in africa and the only way to get my fishing tackles is online shoping with a 50/50 chance of receiving them, so handmade is a must for me, your videos are inspiration. thanks
This is the best tutorial about making crankcbaits I've ever seen. Thanks.
***** Thanks, i tried to get it as tight as possible
The Handmade Fisherman ----- THANK !!!
Good movie. Please tell me
Where can I buy such pliers - as
are you bending wire?
If possible, give the link please.
you are an artist! outstanding work!
I am not selling lures at the moment but maybe next year when i get a better handle on filming. Time is always one of those things i find myself wishing for, if they only put a couple more hours in the day i might get some films finished. Thank for taking the time to comment. Cheers
That was a pleasure to watch you work. I was hesitant to start watching a 16 min video, but I'm definitely going to go watch Part 2 now! Very nice work. Even if I don't go make one myself, that was great to watch. Thank you.
awesome vid man i made one and just painted it silver and gold added some eyes that I bought off tackle warehouse and caught a 4 pound bass thanks again!
Thanks! I need a wider and saw blade I guess. It twists too much to get a straight cut. But the sled might solve that. Good ideas.
Your hack saw blade idea is so smart
thanks I had not seen .. very nice video bravo one of the few where we understand well the various procedures .. also the beautiful blog .. excuse the writing, but I translated with google translator thanks again for your very helpful video hello from Italy
I'm brazilian
Your work is fantastic. congratulations
yes other woods will work, they will give you a slightly different action and will be a little harder to shape and cut but not a problem. I have used western red cedar which is a good softwood and also i have used pine.
wow Paul just found your channel by accident and am hooked! Got me a new hobby !
I realised after i caught my first fish with a homemade lure that my hobby had just become an addiction, good luck and thanks for taking the time to comment
Man your an artist, love the way you do things, such attention to details.
this is mortise gauge or sometimes if it only was one pin a marking gauge, they can be made there are some vids on how to make them on youtube
Woah, great video! Lots of cool ideas for things that aren't necessarily luring making tips. (Namely the epoxy piping bag trick, why didn't I think of that?).
Hope to make my dad a set of poppers for his birthday, and this video has been a great help. His resistance to learning fly fishing has kept me from making flies for him in the past, but now there will be no escaping the handmade gear!
Thanks a bunch!
those jewelry pliers look really handy i must get my hands on those at once, great tutorial btw ;)
I've used one of that template in one of my video! Thanks, that was great!
Great video tutorial Paul. I made 2 of these little lures (1 for my brother-in-law and 1 for myself) and we had a chance to fish with them today. Both lures cast fantastic with baitcasting gear and track very true. Although we didn't catch any fish today on any lure we tried I am sure this little crankbait will come through one day. It has already became one of my favorites and I will definitely be making a few more. I am in the process of making a couple of your Phox minnows as well. Love your videos and look forward to seeing some new ones when you get the chance to add to the collection.
bigbassmann Thanks for letting me know how you got on, I am still a little amazed when i use these baits how well they cast, the buzz from catching my first fish on one was something else. But some days no matter how much effort i put into making something for the end of my line the fish don't seem to share my enthusiasm. Good luck with the phox, and thanks again
Hello I'm french and I love what you do !!!
merci
cool, another phox minnow man, I should have the second video finished in the next couple of days, cheers.
You, sir, are very talented! i've watched a few of your videos, and came across this video after watching the plastic bait videos. i must say i am very impressed with the detail in this video. I'm a crankbait fan and i can't wait to make my first crankbait.
Good luck, i think what i like most about this little lure is it casts a lot better than i had hoped for
***** really? thats great! how is it when you do the stop and go technique? does it float to the top pretty quick, or does it slowly rise up? reason i ask is because i use the stop and go every time i use crankbaits, and i hate when i get a lure and i reel and then stop and then all of a sudden it comes flying up to the surface.
TheSrT4OwNeR i am afraid this one pops up pretty fast, a guy in South America has been making them in pine they are obviously less buoyant. But if you are making them yourself you can adjust it to suit yourself
***** thats probably what i'll try and figure out! maybe a second brass cylinder toward the back of the lure? i'll get it figured out. anyways, keep up the good work sir and definitely looking forward to more videos!
Man you are a MASTER in Fishing LURE...
nice video, the balsa is waaay to easily breakable to use but your video really helped me with my cedar squarebills. thanks.
I like a nice set of tooth marks, i have some cedar, i might have a go
mainly errors, but i did get a lot information from the internet, the only trouble i found was very little of it was joined up.
Thanks Paul Adams
The pipe bag method is a great tip
cheers
Paul Adams
i have videoed most of it but i seriously need to go fishing, so maybe later this week or early next.
Cheers
nice video, thanks man, greetings from Bosnia
Senad Hamzić greetings and thanks
Extremely nicely explained, thank you very much !
Excellent work ! Congratulations on how didactic the video is.
Another fantastic video thank you, I am having a blast making these!
excelente. facil , con instrucciones simples y buenos tips para la construccion. hare unos y vere que resulta. felicitaciones y gracias
paul all your works are awesome, keep it up greetings
Great video Paul. Are you worried at all about the toothy critters denting up the lure since you are using balsa?
excellent stuff i need to browse your films for a small jointed crankbait
Browse away but i am sorry i haven't made a vid about jointed crankbaits
Using cut outs to get the face cintours is ace would like to see a trolling plug I can use on the kayak in the form of a full herring
Basla tree, balsa wood,
Thanks
Máš to pěkně a poctivě udělaný,jseš šikovnej!!!!
I caught the biggest northern in Minnesota, and a nice bass in iowa! Thanks!
i will try to include more airbrush information in future videos, but you might want to check solarbaits channel, he is probably the best lure airbrush artist i have seen and also does great airbrush tutorials.
Thanks
what a genius, senior, how to close the hole in the wire, I like the idea
epoxy can be tricky, i have greasy skin and if i touch the lures after painting, i can see the epoxy move away from my finger prints. Also dirt and dust can repel the expoxy or if i don't cure paint properly with heat.
Hell yeah!!! Can't wait for part 2 mate...awesome work. Keep it up!!
You sir, are a true craftsman! 😃
congratulations you are creative and a great communicator!!
Could you do a more in depth tutorial on air brushing patterns and such? Love the lures, gonna try I make some my self soon
Great Paul! I made the phox minnow, and for sure I'll try this one!!! Cheers from Arg!
my wife is from Vienna but also speaks Italian, I should of got her to do an Italian version.
really in joy your video's, I'm going to have to give it a try my self!!!
Hell. Dude you just made my day. Theres some techniques I didnt know about and they are really helpfull. Think I'll give a try with my homemade lures once again !
O yeah one question, where can I get this 0.8mm balsa filler? This seems way cheaper than buying wood putty
i bought this from ebay, but they sell it at my local craft shop other alternatives are RC model shops. When i first made this i used folded craft card which worked quite well. Thanks and good luck their is link to the plans and blog
*****
Wow, thank you for quick answer. I just completed watching second part must say this is amazing. I check that balsa on ebay laster. Sadly I still miss a lot of tools for makin these, lack some cash :P
Cool tutorial! I´m looking forward to the second part!
unless you have model shop near you, then ebay in the uk that is where i got mine
cheers
Awesome tutorial!! Thank you!!!
เก่งมากครับ ... อยากทำได้บ้างจัง
there is a link to my blog in the description, the plans and tool list should be there. thanks
Excellent work. A clarity in your explanation and very well documented. I am from Argentina and try to at least approach your sensational work. I sent you an email to see if you could send me any plans you have. Greetings and good fishing.
so paul u think 1/8 ounce of lead will make these float right like the brass u use in the video? any way i can get a picture of one of yours floating in a sink or something so i can get it to set right in the water like its suppose to? thanks bud
Hello, fantastic job, a question few layers of epoxy gives the decoy and how long it takes to make the next layer.
I usually add another coat when the prevouis one is stilla little tacky so they bond well together, with envirotex epoxy this is normally about 5-6 hours later thanks
Fantastic sir, cant wait to try this!
excelente trabajo, felicitaciones
Olá e obrigado google translate
Great instructional video - I wish I had the time and space/equipment to start doing this myself.
When the kids move out I can :-)
In the mean time, do you sell your lures?
I'm interested in some if so.
I finally got around to shaping some of these.I dont know if i done something wrong but They look smaller then what they do in your video.Do they look bigger in the video then they actually are or did i maybe screw up somehow?
Paul Andrews They are not very big baits, the only thing you could of done is resized the drawing when printing, which would make it slightly smaller
ah ok must just look a tad bigger on camera then. But i shaped out 6 of them and got the bill slot cut.Still got to foil and such but so far so good.
let me know how you get on, these really do make a thumping wobble and surprising cast almost as well as the weight shift balsa lures
Hi a quick question is balsa the best wood to use thanks for sharing your Video
Oconsystems The reason I use Balsa is because i can shape it without power tools on the living room table with vacuum for the dust, it is not very tough and does not last that long with toothy fish like pike.
Was thinking would extra coats of epoxy add to its life span ?
yes but they will also make it heavier, these do last some time, maybe i made them sound very delicate but i have been using the one from the video for a couple of years and its still in great shape the odd teeth marks can be filled
cheers
How heavy is the Crankbait? and Are there any substitutes for balsa wood that has a similar performance?
Parabéns
That was a great video man
+Happy Fisherman thanks
Amazing video man! Nailed it! Quick question. When printing out your templates the lure size dropped to just over two inches. What's the best way to get the templates to the right scale? Since I noticed your drawings are marked at 2 1/2" thanks for your time bud and again amazing stuff
Tony Marcuccilli There should be a box when you press print that forces the pdf to fit to the print area, it normally just says FIT, if you remove the tick it should print at the correct size
@@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman are you using letter or a4, or does that not matter, also look at my other question plz
where I can download leaf mold ... Greetings .. good fishing chile !!!
Nice, where could I get the balsa wood from?
Awesome video
I have a few pieces of balsa wood, my thinnest piece is three quarters of an inch, would that be fine for making this?
EXCELLENT instructional video. I am excited to get started lure making. You did a great job explaining details. Too bad you don't speak English. I would have understood what you said. Just joking. I'll be following you. Thanks for your help.
Where can I get this type of wire. Great videos
NoFlexSTONE You can get it from www.lurecraft.com Search for stainless steel wire and then scroll down to the Straight Wire Shafts .040 - 8" You can buy them in quantities of 25, 100 or 500. Can also get it on Ebay by searching for .040 stainless steel wire shafts
what kind of fish would you target with this lure. I do Trout fishing would it be any good for that???
i have caught pike and perch with this lure, but have not used it on trout waters, i do not see any reason why it would not interest some larger rainbows but i think it may be a bit big for small brown trout. cheers
The hook eyes u make with your jewelers plyers do they bend out of shape with the wire you use over time or to many BIG fish.
+Keith Bleim I have never had one bend out of shape yet, snags would be the big test
Nice lure on the 2nd video
Amazing! I'm going to try this myself!
have you got those in Cambodia?.
got a quick question I was going to use lead for the belly weight and was wondering what size lead weight in ounces that I should use?
Paul Andrews About 1/8 oz
hello where you can find the prints and drawings of the various artificial measures such as the ones you use in the video?
And a blob of super glue. Awesome video.
Hey man nice vid. Can you tell me where I can buy one of those gauges? Thanks please get back to me ASAP.
any woodworking or tool shop should carry them, if not try online ebay-amazon
cheers
Congratulations! Perfection!
paul what kind of foil do you use and where can you get it to get the holographic lookthank yourichard
+rich warren the foil is aluminium insulation joint tape, for holographic foils I use stuff designed for doing women's nails, google nail foil
Paul. I linked into your video from lurepartsonline.com. I have been hand carving my own lures but having a hell of a time trying to get decent lip slots on my bandsaw. You method is brilliant and so obvious now! Thanks for the great idea. How do you glue your hacksaw blades together?
+alienxyt I use superglue, I have used the band saw on baits made from harder wood than balsa, but i use a sled to hold it.
no, i use four coats of epoxy and anyway i could just make some more,
Cracking little lure. Be good for chub !
That block is bada$& wish I had one
will other kinds of wood work?
what's the name of the tool you used to mark then snap the balsa wood?
look in the description above there is a a link to a pdf drawing
Thanks
Good video!
hey Paul...
i come from German.
where i can buy this round pliers? I don`t have found this in warehouse, or what is the name of this tool, than i can look better.
please get back to me... Thanks
Paul
*****
Super das hilft mir schon sehr viel weiter... DANKE
what kind of wood did you used?
2mm lexan/ polycarbonate sheeting
