thanks I had not seen .. very nice video bravo one of the few where we understand well the various procedures .. also the beautiful blog .. excuse the writing, but I translated with google translator thanks again for your very helpful video hello from Italy
***** I am living in africa and the only way to get my fishing tackles is online shoping with a 50/50 chance of receiving them, so handmade is a must for me, your videos are inspiration. thanks
Oconsystems The reason I use Balsa is because i can shape it without power tools on the living room table with vacuum for the dust, it is not very tough and does not last that long with toothy fish like pike.
yes but they will also make it heavier, these do last some time, maybe i made them sound very delicate but i have been using the one from the video for a couple of years and its still in great shape the odd teeth marks can be filled
yes other woods will work, they will give you a slightly different action and will be a little harder to shape and cut but not a problem. I have used western red cedar which is a good softwood and also i have used pine.
I'm pretty much amazed about the variety of different jigs you have thought of to make the working processes easier and more accurate , ...hats off to you , mate ! And , ....I'm happy to hear that I was seemingly able to provide a little input of some kind , .......looking forward to part two , ...always great to look over your shoulder , ...cheers, Dieter
You, sir, are very talented! i've watched a few of your videos, and came across this video after watching the plastic bait videos. i must say i am very impressed with the detail in this video. I'm a crankbait fan and i can't wait to make my first crankbait.
***** really? thats great! how is it when you do the stop and go technique? does it float to the top pretty quick, or does it slowly rise up? reason i ask is because i use the stop and go every time i use crankbaits, and i hate when i get a lure and i reel and then stop and then all of a sudden it comes flying up to the surface.
TheSrT4OwNeR i am afraid this one pops up pretty fast, a guy in South America has been making them in pine they are obviously less buoyant. But if you are making them yourself you can adjust it to suit yourself
***** thats probably what i'll try and figure out! maybe a second brass cylinder toward the back of the lure? i'll get it figured out. anyways, keep up the good work sir and definitely looking forward to more videos!
I realised after i caught my first fish with a homemade lure that my hobby had just become an addiction, good luck and thanks for taking the time to comment
epoxy can be tricky, i have greasy skin and if i touch the lures after painting, i can see the epoxy move away from my finger prints. Also dirt and dust can repel the expoxy or if i don't cure paint properly with heat.
i have caught pike and perch with this lure, but have not used it on trout waters, i do not see any reason why it would not interest some larger rainbows but i think it may be a bit big for small brown trout. cheers
I finally got around to shaping some of these.I dont know if i done something wrong but They look smaller then what they do in your video.Do they look bigger in the video then they actually are or did i maybe screw up somehow?
so paul u think 1/8 ounce of lead will make these float right like the brass u use in the video? any way i can get a picture of one of yours floating in a sink or something so i can get it to set right in the water like its suppose to? thanks bud
i bought them about a year ago from ebay just to try, they cost about £4 and i thought they wouldn't last but hundreds of wires on they still look like new So a big up for Chinese manufacturing.. Cheers
if you mean where to buy the lexan/polycarbonate if your in the US , most big box home stores sell it in small sheets for 4-6 us dollars, you can also use micarta ( circuit board material ) that you will have to order from somewhere like mastercar
Jun Hao NG Depending on where you live, you may have trouble finding it. Here in Canada the only place we could find it was at a place called Lee Valley. Amazing store. You're looking at around 30-40 dollars for about 4-5 sheets of each, about a foot long.

Hell. Dude you just made my day. Theres some techniques I didnt know about and they are really helpfull. Think I'll give a try with my homemade lures once again ! O yeah one question, where can I get this 0.8mm balsa filler? This seems way cheaper than buying wood putty
i bought this from ebay, but they sell it at my local craft shop other alternatives are RC model shops. When i first made this i used folded craft card which worked quite well. Thanks and good luck their is link to the plans and blog
***** Wow, thank you for quick answer. I just completed watching second part must say this is amazing. I check that balsa on ebay laster. Sadly I still miss a lot of tools for makin these, lack some cash :P
its says in order to download i have to buy and when i just try to print the image and uncheck fit to page it still is 2" is there a way you can email me it or such?
That was a pleasure to watch you work. I was hesitant to start watching a 16 min video, but I'm definitely going to go watch Part 2 now! Very nice work. Even if I don't go make one myself, that was great to watch. Thank you.
I usually add another coat when the prevouis one is stilla little tacky so they bond well together, with envirotex epoxy this is normally about 5-6 hours later thanks
I am not selling lures at the moment but maybe next year when i get a better handle on filming. Time is always one of those things i find myself wishing for, if they only put a couple more hours in the day i might get some films finished. Thank for taking the time to comment. Cheers
NoFlexSTONE You can get it from www.lurecraft.com Search for stainless steel wire and then scroll down to the Straight Wire Shafts .040 - 8" You can buy them in quantities of 25, 100 or 500. Can also get it on Ebay by searching for .040 stainless steel wire shafts

Hello I'm french and I love what you do !!!
merci
Hi a quick question is balsa the best wood to use thanks for sharing your Video
Oconsystems The reason I use Balsa is because i can shape it without power tools on the living room table with vacuum for the dust, it is not very tough and does not last that long with toothy fish like pike.
Was thinking would extra coats of epoxy add to its life span ?
yes but they will also make it heavier, these do last some time, maybe i made them sound very delicate but i have been using the one from the video for a couple of years and its still in great shape the odd teeth marks can be filled

Great video Paul. Are you worried at all about the toothy critters denting up the lure since you are using balsa?
Nice lure on the 2nd video
เก่งมากครับ ... อยากทำได้บ้างจัง
will other kinds of wood work?

You, sir, are very talented! i've watched a few of your videos, and came across this video after watching the plastic bait videos. i must say i am very impressed with the detail in this video. I'm a crankbait fan and i can't wait to make my first crankbait.
Good luck, i think what i like most about this little lure is it casts a lot better than i had hoped for
***** really? thats great! how is it when you do the stop and go technique? does it float to the top pretty quick, or does it slowly rise up? reason i ask is because i use the stop and go every time i use crankbaits, and i hate when i get a lure and i reel and then stop and then all of a sudden it comes flying up to the surface.

NoFlexSTONE I am no sure solder wire would work, do you mean mig welding wire?
wow Paul just found your channel by accident and am hooked! Got me a new hobby !
I realised after i caught my first fish with a homemade lure that my hobby had just become an addiction, good luck and thanks for taking the time to comment

Cracking little lure. Be good for chub !
what kind of wood did you used?
got a quick question I was going to use lead for the belly weight and was wondering what size lead weight in ounces that I should use?
Paul Andrews About 1/8 oz
Yo, Im tryna start making these, What are those thread tools called? You used it here 12:08
fly tying bobbin holder, i think this one is home made
@@PaulAdamsTheHandmadeFisherman tysm
hello how are you what is the name of the wood you are using
Man you are a MASTER in Fishing LURE...
what kind of fish would you target with this lure. I do Trout fishing would it be any good for that???
i have caught pike and perch with this lure, but have not used it on trout waters, i do not see any reason why it would not interest some larger rainbows but i think it may be a bit big for small brown trout. cheers
I finally got around to shaping some of these.I dont know if i done something wrong but They look smaller then what they do in your video.Do they look bigger in the video then they actually are or did i maybe screw up somehow?
Paul Andrews They are not very big baits, the only thing you could of done is resized the drawing when printing, which would make it slightly smaller
ah ok must just look a tad bigger on camera then. But i shaped out 6 of them and got the bill slot cut.Still got to foil and such but so far so good.
let me know how you get on, these really do make a thumping wobble and surprising cast almost as well as the weight shift balsa lures
so paul u think 1/8 ounce of lead will make these float right like the brass u use in the video? any way i can get a picture of one of yours floating in a sink or something so i can get it to set right in the water like its suppose to? thanks bud
i bought them about a year ago from ebay just to try, they cost about £4 and i thought they wouldn't last but hundreds of wires on they still look like new So a big up for Chinese manufacturing.. Cheers

Creating lures is fun
I made a lure with straw.
The hook eyes u make with your jewelers plyers do they bend out of shape with the wire you use over time or to many BIG fish.
+Keith Bleim I have never had one bend out of shape yet, snags would be the big test
