Heartfelt singing. Lyrics of love and attention to what is. His voice is so unique that I was in shock the first time I heard him sing. One of my life's regrets is that I didn't sign up for a song writing seminar with him as the teacher. Why? I don't play and instrument. But I am now certain that he'd work with whatever I brought with me as a person. That's the man I love to hear over and over.
First saw and heard "JDG" in Sedona Arizona in 1994 as I recall. Jackson Browne would put on a benefit concert for Verde Valley School every late September or early October back in the 90s. Anyway Jimmie opened the outdoor show one year and I knew within 30 seconds this fellow was great. Jimmie is one of my all time favourites.
Jimmie's voice, and the dobro too. I'm in heaven. Jimmie's voice and the dobro are perfectly matched; he sings high with a vibrato, just like the instrument.
I can hardly comment - I really love it that much! I don't really know what to say because when I listen to this, it simply shuts down my expressions and opens up my heart and soul to such true ... I don't know what ...
I'm so glad I have Jimmie in my life via his music. We saw him in Northampton, Ma. Unknown to us, his older van was parked right outside the small venue, fitting in to the local scene except for the out of state plates. Standing in line all of a sudden, out comes JDG to get something out of the vehicle. I called out a greeting and he turned and said Hi,smiling. What a nice man and talent! Thanks for posting the video
One of the great artists I only discovered listening to Outlaw Country on Sirius. His voice is one of the best and it only makes you sad when you see what passes for popular music today.
WHOA!!!---DANGER __talent overload!!!---My Lord, we've got not only one of the great American vocalists, but the incredible guitars of Bill Frisell and Jerry Douglas. Thanks for posting--never knew this existed!
One of my favorite songs of all time..I've seen this group live a few times..Douglas is impeccable ...Jimmies interpretation of Butches words send chills down my spine.. I absolutely I've this....thanks for posting .
oh...my..i've never heard this before...so sad &so beautiful brought tears to my eyes...i love his voice, he has the sexiest voice ever!..& i always love the way his songs make me feel...so smooth...so...beautiful!he has one of the most unique voices i have prob ever heard & i just love everything i have ever heard him do!!such an emotional song this is!
I'm back, I ordered your CD and now I'll have to order another one. I've have literally wore it out. Thanks again Jimmy for the great music, Steve Johnson.
yes he should get credit but he is not the one singing the song with all these emotions and feelings... ...Do you give a farmer the credit when a chef prepares a meal?
Joe Ely, Butch Hancock and Jimmie not only shared songs but have always toured as The Flatlanders even though they have separate careers. Awesome friends.
I had forgotten how much I loved Jimmy Dale Gilmore.. My husband got custody of the music which included all my shit too... Jimmy Dale Gilmore one of my faves...I had some of his stuff..he is like "a Rod Stewert song".every picture tells a story" clean picking..sings like water pouring..pure & clean sharp as a tack..(me tacky).... he is Rain drops on roses and wiskers on kittens..Clean and natural...love the steel...ooolala...me like
Such a wonderful example of the talents of Gilmore and Hancock. Incidentally, the only song I have ever been told that I was not ever allowed to sound check with again.
A fave JDG song, that isn't JDG's, but made for his voice. Dobro star in Alison Krauss' band, Jerry Douglas, and Alison's brother, Victor. on the bass. With Bill Frisell on lead. The title says it all.
I've been listening to Jimmie Dale Gilmore, since I learned he was my Cousin, and I met him in Austin, Texas. I've been listening to him ever since!!!

Between Jimmie Dale's incredible voice, that amazing dobro, and Butch Hancock's beautiful song, I'm in heaven!
A beautiful voice. It rings in me like crying.
Jimmie's voice, and the dobro too. I'm in heaven. Jimmie's voice and the dobro are perfectly matched; he sings high with a vibrato, just like the instrument.
Geez! With this lineup it's like being in heaven. Love all these guys.

Only recently heard of this superb musician. Thanks for posting.
"Enlightenment for a wave in the ocean is the moment the wave realizes it is water." (Thich Nhat Hahn)
Carol F ... and the ocean recognizes itself in the rain.
As we say in england...
We'll all soon be pushing up daisies
Unbelievable voice, fab songs. I've turned so many people here in Australia on to this man.
I met JDG in AMarillo at a Hasting's Book Event. What a class act and a kind man, and those pipes are so great!
Jimmie Dale and the Flatlanders are great!! Just as good today as they were 20 years ago. Love their lyrics.

Beautiful! JDG is backed by an outstanding group of musicians. This is my favorite recording of this song.
I hold this guy in high regards! Lubbock's own Dylan
THE BEST! TY
Man, I could listen to those harmonizing guitars 24/7!
Hey, come on guys, give Butch Hancock some credit, after all he wrote the song.
yes he should get credit but he is not the one singing the song with all these emotions and feelings... ...Do you give a farmer the credit when a chef prepares a meal?
Sorry, CJ, I've only just seen your load of bollocks, please accept my apologies for not replying sooner.
Joe Ely, Butch Hancock and Jimmie not only shared songs but have always toured as The Flatlanders even though they have separate careers. Awesome friends.
@@CJWorth1 Actually the better metaphor would be giving the writer of the recipe credit when the chef prepares the meal.
@@MrKeyboardCommando that is not my comment only part of it was
"...committing suicide in self defense." Priceless!
Beautiful songwriting, beautifully performed.

I have to correct your comment, Jimmie Dale Gilmore IS a superstar.
Butch Hancock - saint of songwriting

Both Jimmie and Brian were talented "Musicians" and my Father knew "both" of them.
