  • Had a rough morning chasing big browns, lost a big fish and broke my fly rod! I had my 6 ft 3 wt in the car so decided to check out a small tributary without any real expectations but hoping to find some brook trout, lets just say I wasn't too upset about breaking the fly rod!

    Another great video. I was driving back from the Catskills to Ithaca that day through that area. The rain certain did come down later. The Beaverkill and East branch were fishing really well that day as well.

    Awesome! I try and watch a lot of “Ny brookie” videos and this one is one of the few that I recognize the creek. It holds a lot of fish for a stream that is all but dry in the summer.

      @deaddriftoutdoors2940  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know. I used to photograph it in the fall but in the summer is was so low and dry I didn't even consider fishing it but then I saw a nice brookie when photographing one day and made sure to bring my fly rod, it did not disappoint! Thanks for watching and commenting!

    When I tell the guys at work about trout fishing back home from the streams or I say brooks lol they have no idea how awesome it is compared to fishing for trout in a river (white river) Arkansas but again I loved going to the Delaware east or west branches Sullivan county NY I miss it

      I grew up calling them cricks, then started saying streams, now I say brook or creek or stream. Either way I love fishing the small water, its a very unique experience, its nice to have open space to cast on the big water but I will always come back to the small water!!

    Very nice fish. I love these small streams, but my $70 6' 8' 3 wt won't throw line like your LL Bean haha It's kinda hard finding native or wild trout in central NY, most I've run into is warm temps and stocked rivers.

    Hello I have enjoyed watching your videos and becomeing a subscriber. Good video, Beautiful brook trout ! Like u I am a avid trout fisherman here in upstate NY. I am sorry to here your misfortune of breaking your flyrod. I have been there also, a few times in my life unfortunetly. I was wondering was that a Orvis clearwater rod, as it seems I have seen u with this rod in some of your videos ? Just wondering because I have heard of a few people haveing breakage issues with this rod. Debuting maybe getting this rod because of the issues that I have heard of. I do believe Orvis does have a pretty good warranty though that they back, I believe.

    • @deaddriftoutdoors2940
      @deaddriftoutdoors2940  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So the rod I broke was a Cabela's Synch Rod, it is an entry level rod nothing fancy so I wasn't too surprised that it broke, it gets slammed around pretty good so prolly had a nick and I was pulling hard against a snag, it was only about 100$ so not a huge loss, otherwise I really like it. I do have a 5wt Orvis Clearwater, haven't used it much yet though....
      Thanks for watching and commenting and subscribing I appreciate your support!!

    What do you think of the DEC policy of not sticking brookies?

    • @deaddriftoutdoors2940
      @deaddriftoutdoors2940  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I certainly don't think I'd want to see them in streams with healthy wild brookies but no problem put and take scenario. I think they are still stocking brookies in certain streams as far as I was aware just not stocking as much on top of wild fish.

    • @stephenkutney9626
      @stephenkutney9626 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They don't stock them in region seven. They say that the water is too warm. They don't stock rainbows unless the stream goes into a lake. They stock rainbows in lakes.

    • @MTips18
      @MTips18 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Stocking sucks all together.

    • @nneesp
      @nneesp ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MTips18 no offense but you likely aren’t familiar with many productive streams in WNY. It is single handedly because of stocking that now wild populations are present. I can think of 4 beautiful streams that maintain healthy populations of rainbows, browns and brooks because of past stockings many years ago.
      Caledonia trout hatchery (amongst others) is excellent and maintain strict regulations pertaining to stocking numbers and do regular studies to maintain healthy ecosystems. Please don’t bash excellent organizations.

    • @deaddriftoutdoors2940
      @deaddriftoutdoors2940  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      These are small wild streams that could not take too much pressure so unfortunately I don't generally name the streams unless they are more well known/larger streams. You'll just have to get out there and explore!

    Anyone opinions on how mater trout u can eat a month or per week before its unhealthy… ud think in nature itd be fine, but i red a article no more then one per month because of mercury Levels… but not sure if the gov is just saying that so u spend money in their store..

    • @deaddriftoutdoors2940
      @deaddriftoutdoors2940  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the levels in most stream trout would be relatively low. Bigger older fish in lakes might be more of an issue. Stockers are also a good bet for the table as they are raised on commercial feed and only 1-2 yrs old so levels would be low in my opinion.
