My assumtion is that, since this is a competitive game, they know their opponents/meta/game really well, this with other game sense throughout the game through comms will allow you to use one or all three of these, he is just giving lots of information to be used it you ever need it.
I see the rubiks cube, it's like learning more algorithms, what if you never get a Ua perm again, do you need to know it even if you never do see it or expect to see it.
