Could you explain the shim calculation? You have a clearance that is too small, so you need to increase the CLEARANCE, that is, space between tappet and cam lobe. In order to do this, you need to DECREASE shim size. So from 250 shim, you should go DOWN .04, not up, which would have been 245 shim. I am not sure how you came up with 300 shim, since even if you follow your logic, 2.5mm + 0.04mm is 2.54mm (255 shim), not 3.0. Unless you mix metric and standard, which is way confusing then.
The only thing I still don't know how to do is when you were putting the cam back on, is their a mark on the cam? I'm scared that when I put in either of the cams back in I wont get the timing right and i'll blow my engine, how do I know how to put the intake/exhaust cam timing exactly where it needs to be?
+GRASS-CONCEPT Hey GC, That's a very tough question to answer as we don't know your comfort level with mechanics and also what the inside of your toolbox looks like. It's a pretty straightforward task, but you'll need some specialty tools for sure. Mostly, if you take your time, maybe even have a camera handy to take pictures, or even a video rolling so that you can reference how reassembly goes, it shouldn't be too tough. If you in any way feel that this is over your head, reach out to a mechanic. Don't wrench over your head. If you feel intimidated by the though of opening up the top of your engine, no harm in having a professional handle the job. The last thing that you want to do is potentially damage your engine. On my 09 kx 450 I'm at .16 on the intake and it calls for .10-.15 Is that close enough ? Good video ! Thanks
Won't the space eventually get to the point where you won't have shims large enough anymore? What happens then, new valvetrain?

Why must you drain the coolant?
what about timing chain removal
What if it's making a ticking noise
is it hard and confusing for the first time?

It's simple math. Like .5 plus .5 = 1. Come on guys..... Common sense goes a long ways.
