- In 2017, the Structure Protection Program, previously managed by the Office of the Fire Commissioner (OFC), was fully integrated into the BC Wildfire Service.
The Structure Protection Program operates under the Fire Services office and is a collaborative effort between the Fire Chiefs Association of B.C. (FCABC) and the BC Wildfire Service. The Fire Services office is a program within the BC Wildfire Service that organizes the protection and defense of structures when wildfires threaten critical infrastructure and residences in the province. Resources available include structure protection units (SPUs), engines, tenders, and trained structural suppression crews.
The primary goal is to ensure the safety of firefighters and the public. Once safety is secured, our personnel focus on deploying structure defense and protection strategies to reduce the risk from wildfires.
