- Not A Clarinet Choir Presents "Journals From Japan"
15 April 2023
“City Pop” is a loose term for a style of Japanese pop music that emerged in the 70s which has regained popularity recently via the social media platforms Instagram and TikTok. A common characteristic of the City Pop genre is that many artists choose not to embrace the Japanese influences of their musical predecessors, turning instead to incorporate elements from disco, jazz, R&B, electronica, Latin, and Caribbean music.
The songs in this medley include “Plastic Love” by Mariya Takeuchi, “Mayonaka no Door (Stay with Me)” composed by Tetsuji Hayashi & performed by Miki Matsubara, and “Machi No Dorufin” by Kingo Hamada.

Not A Clarinet Choir is a mosaic; a collective of clarinetists from different backgrounds, based in Singapore. As a new group, we aim to explore the possibilities and push the boundaries of clarinet music, with a keen ear for detail, and an open mind for collaboration. We are led by our music director, Brian Lim.
In March 2022 we hosted our first concert to a full house, and we are looking forward to more projects in the future. The group also participated in the recent Singapore International Band Festival 2022, Division Ensemble 1 and clinched the top prize, Gold with Distinction, with the highest score across the entire ensemble division.
