    as a car designer this is my fav current car, not an RS but a normal GT3. the clean body without the side scoops and just aggressive enough to balance a timeless design. most importantly its a manual , its not about 0-100 , its about how you get there. congrats and looking forward to future videos and drives mr JWW.

      I could not agree more. I owned the RS 991.2 and traded it for another cool car. Im in the market for another 991.2 and considered the RS... but hearkened back to the cartoonish nature of it.. and am opting for the GT3... a much more beautiful and well composed aesthetic.

    Get the Rennline pedal kit, especially the adjustable throttle pedal. You can adjust it in and out, top and bottom pads separately, and you can add width extensions. Makes it easy to set up perfectly for heel / toe. Honestly, I don’t even use the throttle blipper with these pedals. They are awesome.

    Very informative video James - I learn so much with your videos unlike most larger (relatively) car youtubers. It was interesting to know that you can improve the comfort/position with the 918-style bucket seats + useful to know about the benefits of speccing this car with aluminium pedals particularly in wet conditions. I really liked how you described the joys of a manual gearbox in which the driver's engagement with the car is retained even in very pedestrians speeds particularly in the UK. Speaking of great manual cars, you should have a go in a Honda NSX-R and S2000 in your next 'modern classics' episode. I don't work for nor get paid by Torque GT at all but that UK specialist dealership has a plethora of Japanese sportscars in pristine condition and have some quality videos on their youtube channel you can check out, if you are interested. Keep up the great work and it would be lovely to see a POV video on your manual GT3!

  • @soupistasty5

    Wow, James. That closing to this video has got me all nostalgic n' misty eyed (18:40)! Didn't expect that at all. Thank you so much for, as you so often do, striking at the heart of why we love these machines - it's not so much about the speed; but it's about the emotion, the people (like the times in the near future with your son) and the memories.

  • @fragu123

    BTW, the cliche of „man and machine“ works spot on to illustrate the love for manuals....! I never get full satisfaction from a car with whatever automatic transmission, even from the best double clutches I don’t get it....

      EugeneF15 ...I’d say it’s not important how fast a car drives but how it drives fast.... it’s not about 10th of seconds as we car connaisseurs know but about the engagement between car and driver - and this engagement undoubtedly grows with a manual as it means the driver can make more of a difference in how the car drives fast......

    James - I know exactly where you're coming from. The enjoyment is in driving - especially in a 911. My best car was a RS America - took a while to really learn how to drive it, but you knew everytime you got it right - even at 30mph. So satisfying. Fast cars are...fast. Great cars have ability and feedback.
    Great idea with your son. My boy loved playing with cars - when he was 8 I took him for a quick drive in a F430 and Gallarda. He's 21 this year and still doesn't drive....

      Not a Frankenstein, factory parts. Frankly it’s better due to the fact it’s the same transmission the manual 430 would’ve used. Just beefed up

    I used to think you were a GT3 fanboy, then I had my GT3 experience 😱 UNREAL!!! Its relentless, it screams and it just creates G force that shouldn't be experienced on a car with space for luggage and groceries. Worth all the Hype!!
    Personally, a GT3 Touring is the one to get.

  • @kirbsak
    @kirbsak 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    So the elephant in the room..you've opted for a manual GT3, I agree fab spec, with no roll cage (they're ugly as hell) that you want to drive 'to maximum attack & to the edge on many tracks'.. surely the roll cage is protection you absolutely need in those scenarios or Porsche wouldn't even bother to option them! Is there any research on rolled GT3s (maybe from Porsche themselves) where the roll cages makes the difference, or are they (as I very much doubt) purely a racer's cosmetic option that also give a bit more stiffness to the body shell?

    • @MrJWW
      @MrJWW  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The cage is bolt in - not part of the chassis, doesn’t provide any more structural rigidity and adds 20kg weight. Essential for a track car for safety but this will be tracked on occasion - not all the time.

    • @kirbsak
      @kirbsak 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrJWW OK so no rigidity lost and weight reduction a positive, but can, as one potential scenario, the roof take the weight of the car in the event of a roll over? Something that can quite easily happen if one is driving 'on the limit' at a track....just got your welfare in mind! I'm find it interesting to better understand why Porsche has so readily spec'd the roll over cage, when its so ugly and impractical..I've always assumed that it was for normal road and 'occasional' track day (what most cars would be used for) safety ..

    13:50 This is exactly why I love driving a manual sports car. It is nott going to be the equivalent car with a dual clutch trans. It is just so much fun to drive a manual car fast, but also just cruising slowly. Just hearing the revs, and revving it up into gear and stuff. The rev match downshifts are so fun. I really need to see a very in-depth video of this 991.2 GT3 manual, vs manual 992 GT3. Just hearing how similar or different they drive, the sounds. I love the front of the 991, I love the interesting spoiler on the 992. I am so confused on which car I like better. 😂

  • @Ryem3

    LEDs in black are an option, they are also available without the black trim. Something over 40% of all GT3's are optioned with the black LEDs.

    There is something to be said for getting the best version of something. For a lot of people the Porsche 6 speeds have already peaked and been perfected which is a good thing. Same as their 4.0 motor. The PDK is like a piece of technology it gets updated every year and as such has the potential to be outdated.

    I will miss your Miami Blue GT3, but I think you have made a great choice now having a manual with three pedals to play with. I have see a few cars in this sort of chalk colour and its subtle, but not. James I think you are turning into a sentimental young man, but I like your thinking and sharing those experiences with your son.

    Just a brilliant car.
    It’s not always the 0-60
    Or the top speed
    it’s the just going around a Uk roundabout in a wet quiet evening..
    Especially in a manual 911.
    Fantastic
