Ive been a restaurant supplies salesman for 28 years here in my born & raised area of N. IL. (I’m 59) Mom & Pop owners and their establishments are the salt of this Earth. Your interview coverage of these folks EXACTY showed why. They provide many first jobs, even lifetime positions, many new workers have learned hard work ethic and dealing with people! Extremely important skills and all while providing much needed services to their communities. I supply one restaurant that’s been in our community for 51 years, and 2 others almost 30 years as the honorable mentions. They become friends, not just my customers. Great interview!
LOVE THIS TOO!! On my tour of your area, Imwill hot this and all the other places you have featured, John. THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU DO AND WHY YOU DO IT!!!
Back in 1980 I bought a small restaurant in south central Illinois, I was the first owner outside of the original family in 110 years. I had customers that had been eating there for 90 years. A wonderful video John and a great channel to subscribe to, many thanks.
I'm so glad I just happened to come upon this video! I'm with the owner, I don't like change because why would you change such beauty of these wonderful places, if it isn't broke why fix it! And the neons, are a work of art! The ladies and the crew, are wonderful! Thank you for this video and all you do to bring us history!
Lord, if I hadn’t left my run too late and I’d ever got to come to the USA …..I’d of headed straight to the Appalachian places you document…..beautiful country, people and passion…..thanks for showing them all to me 😊❤🇦🇺❤️
We do, here in Mule Town USA Columbia Tn. The JUMBO HOUSE!!!😅 Greatest🍔 Burgers, Shakes & Fries. Just like days of yesteryear. Great service, Great food, Great price!!! The folks have even apologized for the rising cost of items on the menu. Same Quality & Service for nearly 40 years.😂😂😂
I love that there are still these mom and pop places and that you keep people in the know about them… You help keep their doors open. Even though I’m 1/2 way across the US from where you share with us, you make me search out these type of establishments in our part of the country. Although they are fewer and further between in CA, not that they don’t exist. I was a huge Huell Howser fan for just that reason and have visited many places because of his show, which yours remind me greatly of. Keep up great job. I’ve taken many armchair trips and met many fascinating people on your channel. Thank you!!!
I love the family owned restaurants the best. They always have great food and very friendly employees. What will we do if they all disappear someday? I would never go to another restaurant if that happened. Thank you for showing us this wonderful restaurant! I wish we had one just like it around my area. There are a few family owned restaurants around here but this one looks exceptional. What a lovely family and fantastic employees. I hope it lasts for many more years! ❤
Oh my gosh I came across this tonight. It’s wonderful love to see the businesses that have been open for years and still doing the same thing. We need more places like this forget the corporations.❤ the most amazing thing is such loyalty in employees.. that says a lot about their employer.. can’t wait to see the next gem. you find
Almost every little town through the sierra range and much of california's rural areas has little places like this, and i try to go to them when I'm riding around here. Great little local places, some only open in spring to fall, and always worth going to. These places are where the locals eat, lots of families and people passing through. One I found not way too far makes great lemonade, iced tea and a BLT that goes well with their fresh made onion rings. When you're out on the road, support these little places, keep them going and don't let fast food chains take this history of little locally owned places away.
(This is Tom, not Sandra.) What a great place!! The owner and her employees were so gracious and nice to see. I just love these small town places that harken back to earlier, calmer times. Thank you for making these videos, sir. May GOD bless you and your organization that produces these great videos. Take care. (Tom)
So great to see a mom & pop establishment be able to survive & thrive in this day & age. Hopefully they are paying their employees a decent living wage.
My town in Southern Ontario used to have a diner like this, a drive in, that was always busy...so many good memories eating there on Sunday while out for a family drive to the lake...It closed down about 25 years ago when our son was a toddler, so he doesn't remember it...I wish we still had it, I miss it very much😢
Right in my hometown! I eat there all the time and I love the pizza burger. They make great milkshakes with real fruit like strawberries which is my favorite. If you ever find your way over in Taz Vegas as some of us call it, stop in there it really is great.
I'm pretty sure I remember the video with Ralph when he came to eat with you here. Back in the day we use to have lots of these little restaurants around even here in Illinois. Still find one or two in the small towns but really none in the larger towns. And, it is hard to find help here, too. Still see some limited openings due to staffing.
I can remember as a young girl back in late 80s I was probably 10 years old so 36 years ago and camping in the carpenteria campsite on the beach in California and my girlfriend and I would walk down to frostee freeze to get ice cream cones and then go walk the train tracks and find our smashed Pennie’s by the train we placed on the railway way very nice video thank you
that persons comment about mashing the hamburger too hard is wrong. It’s not real thick so doesn’t take long to cook but it is delicious and very tasty. Don’t knock if you haven’t tried it. They beat any fast food burger any day of the week. The hillbillies know how to cook. Ask me I’m a hillbilly living in Md for 60 years. We have an Ann’s hotdog that has a 😅😊😊 history and reputation that carries all over the country Just found you and really enjoy this. Thank you 😊
You should do follow-up visits, to show how much business has increased since your videos were made. I live in North West Georgia, and have drove quite a ways to try some places, just because of your videos. So far B&B Market is my favorite.
Thank you for sharing this video with us I love that part of Tennessee I would love to live there but because of very little money I have stay in Knoxville which is a awful place to live now
Have you ever been to the Hob-Nob in Gate City? They have been there for ever. I don't know how long. I have been going there for about 25 years but they they had been there for years when I started going. I guaranty it is the best the Cheese Burger in Southwest Virginia hands down.

Looks like a really great place to eat . Congrats for the years you've been in service. Now I'm hungry!
Thank you 😋
$5.34 for Fish and Chips? - You can't even get crappy fish and chips for under $20 in my town!
I imagine that's why they have a hard time hiring. Wages have to be rock bottom with those prices.
Smash burgers look wonderful!
Absolutely love your channel! Just found it today and Subscribed
