My wife passed away last year to brain cancer. She was, is, and always will be my soulmate. As crushed as my life will forever be for losing her…I am the luckiest for getting 20 years with the most beautiful human being that I’ve ever known. I love you, bubby. Forever and a day.
My husband and I’s song we danced to at our wedding. Every time I hear it I fall more in love with him. What a beautiful depiction of deep and abiding love! Thank you Ben.
I know this song thanks to the movie "About Time". All the time I associate that movie to this song. This song is so moving that anytime I have goosbumps. It is a pity so few people know it. I deeply love it.
A classic song and meaning that's timeless and transparent to where a man just simply says "I always loved you." in a way that means truly forever if so possible anymore. No matter what.
I don't get many things right the first time, In fact, I am told that a lot Now I know all the wrong turns the stumbles, And falls brought me here And where was I before the day That I first saw your lovely face, Now I see it every day And I know That I am, I am, I am, the luckiest What if I had been born fifty years before you In a house on the street Where you lived Maybe I'd be outside as you passed on your bike. Would I know? And in a wide sea of eyes I see one pair that I recognize And I know That I am, I am, I am, the luckiest I love you more then have Ever found the way to say To you Next door there's an old man who lived to his nineties and one day Passed away in his sleep, And his wife, she stayed for a couple of days, and passed away I'm sorry I know that's a strange way to tell you that I know we belong, That I know That I am, I am, I am, the luckiest 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I absolutely LOVE this song, it is simple but tear jerking, and the film from which it comes is lovely too. Bill Nighy's performance , and of course the rest of the cast is awesome, Just beautiful!
I need waterproof mascara with many of his songs I have sobbed so hard can’t get my breath Still Fighting it can’t make it through it my last child’s of 5 left for college I miss them and don’t know how to let them fly away from me
Watching this years later, its really tough to think about the fact that this particular recording came out a few years after he and his wife ended up divorcing in 2011. I can't imagine what it must have been like for him to be performing such a wonderful song about a woman who he was no longer with, but you can see the pain on his face at the end. It's a feeling I hope I never experience.
I heard this song for the first time on the Dennis Prager show. Help me decide because I can't figure it out. Is Ben Folds a good singer? Because to me, in this song he sounds VERY amateur.
His greatest talent is not his vocal ability, although I think he does a very fine job, as lots of great singers don't play or write. And although I think his playing ability is fantastic, there are probably even better pianists in the world too, as lots of great players don't sing, and many don't write either. His songwriting ability is his greatest talent I think, with his playing ability very close to that. He has said that he loved writing and thought he'd be a songwriter that wrote music and sold it to others to play and sing, but it didn't work out that way. He couldn't get a lot of work doing that when he started, so he just started singing his own music. I think it's worked out well for him. Because he sings his own work, we get to enjoy a LOT more of it then we would if only "hits" were written and bought and sung by others, and the rest of his awesome songs, shelved. None of my favorite Ben Folds songs are "hits", and the ones that are, aren't my favorites. The world gets to enjoy many albums of great music from and from Ben Folds Five, because he just decided to start singing it. And I'm so glad he did. Personally, I love that his vocal isn't some sweeping operatic one. His songs wouldn't feel personal or human to me if they were sung by Pavarotti or someone like that. I appreciate that his voice is good, but also has a relatable-ness and a boyish-ness to it that most people can connect to and follow and sing along with. I listen also, to music where I can't sing the music at all like the singer, and I love that music too, but the connection of being able to sing it, really humanizes it and makes it feel closer to me.

This is my song for my daughter. Anything I have done wrong, she is the greatest thing I have ever done. Where was I before the day ...
This sounds fantastic. The piano sounds amazing! Thank you for posting. He seems to be really feeling it in this one.
Definitely one of the most beautifully written love songs ever. Fantastic!

Beautiful way of putting it.
Wow! A truly amazing song!
This is SUCH a beautiful song.
Like all songs written and played by geniuses, some may not get this... here's to all of you who feel this, for you get it
So beautiful
I don't get many things right the first time,
In fact, I am told that a lot
Now I know all the wrong turns the stumbles,
And falls brought me here
And where was I before the day
That I first saw your lovely face,
Now I see it every day
And I know
That I am, I am, I am, the luckiest
What if I had been born fifty years before you
In a house on the street
Where you lived
Maybe I'd be outside as you passed on your bike. Would I know?
And in a wide sea of eyes
I see one pair that I recognize
And I know
That I am, I am, I am, the luckiest
I love you more then have
Ever found the way to say
To you
Next door there's an old man who lived to his nineties and one day
Passed away in his sleep,
And his wife, she stayed for a couple of days, and passed away
I'm sorry I know that's a strange way to tell you that I know we belong,
That I know
That I am, I am, I am, the luckiest
😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Thanks for putting up the lyrics to this amazingly beautiful song!

This song didn't "come from a movie". It pre-dates the movie About Time by 12 years.
Wtf are you talking about? This song came out over a decade before it was used in that movie

I just saw your comment and wanted to say that you’ll be ok 💙 it’s hard to let them go but it’s also amazing to watch our kids evolve and mature. ❤️❤️
They always fly back :) I promise you

I didn’t know that about his life. The song is obviously still quite meaningful to him.
The best song he's written.

And in a wide sea of eyes

The crickets kept silent this time! Actually I think the church crickets add more charm, if that's even possible. Best song ever!

Sean Perdue His voice is not his forte, but his songwriting and composition are😍

Never has anyone in history missed the point as much as you have.
