I believe that the “mystery” fish was a juvenile chain pickerel. The other possibility would be American pickerel but the subspecies down there would have red fins and they are more of a “swamp fish”. Awesome video! Always love the ultra light fishing
I got furloughed from the railroad and decided to use the time wisely and start fishing with my dad again. I was gone so much. People think trains just get in the way but we have families we don’t see much. We know hotel staff more than relatives. Thanks for the videos John! They are instrumental in me finding my old passion.
Nice little creek, looks like fun, when you get into some chubs they go after everything. That last fish that took a swipe at your lure looked like a Grass Pickeral, pretty cool stuff.
John you know as well as I do the main thing is just to get away from everything and have some fun I enjoyed your program I believe you enjoyed doing it
Oh man i have so many memories of the little sugar creek behind our house ,you could catch bass, catfish ,,big perch and goggle eyes we call them here, you all call them rock bass,,,thank you so much flr sharing
This is a great video. It is amazing to see how many divergent species of fish are located in one small creek. The green sunfish at six minutes was an impressive fish!
Jon, that creek you used to fish reminded me of a creek l used to fish 45 years ago.It had lots of creek chubs, green Sunfish and amazingly lots of American Eels.l loved catching the eels. They really fought hard.
Hey John, you mentioned wanting to get something to keep track of how far you have walked. I use the OnX app on my phone and it's pretty good. It will tell you how far you walked, show exactly where you walked and show you the owners of every piece of property. You can either get it for your state or for every state. It's great for deer hunting as well because you can mark trails, stand locations, bedding areas etc... I highly recommend it.
I plan on visiting a creek from my youth here in the next couple weeks. The creek meant a lot to me growing up so it's going to be interesting fishing it again. It's been over 25 years since I last did. Even if I don't catch anything, the memories walking it will be worth the trip alone. Can't wait!
Thanks for sharing. I fished yesterday with my son and grandson. We had a good time an got to try the hellgramite lure along with trout magnets, they worked good for a hot day in the 90s.
Great vid! This is what I did half the day today! We have one good creek in my area that isn't actually a mud ditch. Out here enjoying it!! Also, I thought I was catching small bass but they're giant creek chubs! Thanks!
AMEN! That creek looked fishy! About 25 of those creek chubs would be nice in a Flathead or a Walleye spot. That fish with the fork tail may have been a rare type of shinner!
Gotten into the chubs before but never a creek where it's the main species caught. Definitely looked like a fun creek and a good way to spend the afternoon!
them male Longears were amazing and colorful, and the mystery fish looks just like a grass pickerel, we actually keep one of those in an aquarium,, and man I would love to find some longears like that, the waterways around here are dominated by bluegill.
I've had a tough year trying for bass out on the lakes, so I've been fishing the local creek to get my mojo back. Its working! Caught small large mouths, red breast, greens, blue gill rock bass and even a chub! Lol keep the videos and scripture coming! God bless and tight lines!!
You finally got me to pass up the lake and pond and go to the creek today and yesterday. I saw chubs that had to be at-least a pound. I thought they were white bass until I got closer.
It’s crazy to me how pretty sunfish can get in creeks. These are the kinds of videos that made me start a channel! Keep up the great work. The fish you missed was most likely either a chain pickerel, or a red pike which is my guess
I was looking at those Creek Chubs and all I could think was Bait As I like using the creek chub as bait for catfish , Largemouth Bass and Northern Pike I catch them in a creek not far from my house Then a relaxing afternoon of fishing
I love your videos man. Im moving to middle TN and I can not wait. Your videos give me so much to look foward to when I get there! Maybe I can fish with you one day. Thanks for all the videos keep up all the great work
Chubby little chub chubs fished from in the creek... if I catch enough of you I can eat into next week. Chubs are edible, if small, but in this creek, with so many, nice meals they would make. Those are gorgeous sunfish (long ears, bluegills, etc.)
Wauw men, the longear sunfich is beautiful. like that for my tank. But i'm living in Holland far away from the USA. Nice fishing over there. Keep on going men!!!
Always cool visiting your past fishing spots....and just remember, when life gives you creek chubs...make....🤔....make a dam, so those slimy rascals can’t get out. Lol More great video Brother!!
It is interesting you mentioned eco systems changing AND that you caught so many creek chubs. I fished a lot as a kid ... a lot a lot ... never caught a creek chub. Now I fish the same creeks I did 20 years ago and catch them all the time.
I grew up fishing the little creeks and brooks back home, I didn't know anyone else did it cause everyone laughed at me till I saw your videos , terrorizing minnows is fun and I think a good servival skill.
Your very welcome John. Have you ever heard of a basically ice fishing ultralight lure called " swedish pimple". No I didn't just make that up it a off orange 🍊/ pink color used alot for ice fishing but could be useful in small streams. Check it out.
If you can find what Lake or inlet that creek comes off you probably will find some deeper holes and bigger fish. You can use the shiners and chubs for bait.
I love videos like this. I'm cutting together my video inspired by your $10 Walmart Challenge. I like the mystery fish at the end, maybe a baby pike. That thing was a beast, he didn't care about the bigger fish around him.
I think that is a grass pickerel. Here in Tennessee we have three species of pike. The Chain Pickerel, the Grass Pickerel-(or Redfin Pickerel), and the Muskellunge. Good little video that depicts creek fishing fun at it's most basic level.
@@CreekFishingAdventures thanks John 🌟 I utubed a guy under swedish pimple he had a varied of lures I never ice fish but they are small & great for panfish ulralight style. Good Luck 🎣
@@CreekFishingAdventures Your Welcome John, always like sharing tips with a fellow angler. I use to fish Indiana & Ohio. But I have lived in Georgia, N.C. & Texas. Miss fishing myself for now so watching you is pretty good thanks.
Could you imagine putting a couple 3 pound smallmouth in there? If they didnt die from lowering water levels (my guess as to why no bass) they would be absolute monsters in a year or so. It would be illegal to transport the fish anyhow, but fun to imagine :)
I regularly catch chubs and shiners twice that size. Caught one in the last two weeks that weighed 0.70lb! Caught him on a 3.5 size Joe’s Flies spinner that I was tossing for smallies!
Need more of the story. Why did your family live there for only two months? Further, I’m glad you went back twenty years later and fished this creek. As usual, great information on describing the water and fish. I’m not a fisherman in my old age, but watch a couple of your videos each day and throughly enjoy your channel. 🐠 🐟.
8:40.....sounds like you found the young coyotes that love living in those creek bottoms. Now that I think about it, I am surprised I don't hear more of that on your videos. Wearing those Chubbs out! Gonna have to weigh some of those to see how close you are to a state record.
Hello, I'm still using the ABU Garcia Vigilante 2.0 light fast action rod that you recommend a while back paired with a Zebco 33 Micro Gold Ultralite Triggerspin reel and it works great. Tennessee fishing
If you go fishing in Kingsport this fall come on over to Va and I'll turn you on to some trophy walleye on the Clinch and Powell Rivers they're loaded with some great fish.
Hey I like catching creek chubbs .I use them for bait afterwards .But I still like catching them too .Chubbs r getting rough to come by in my area tho .1 of my favorite baits if artificials won't get it done . Good video man .
I was surprised not to see any Redbreast. It seems like this is the only water you haven't found one in. That shined kind of reminded me of a sardine. I wonder if they taste like them. Happy fishing.
That little warmouth wins coolest fish of the day award. 😜😁
I believe that the “mystery” fish was a juvenile chain pickerel. The other possibility would be American pickerel but the subspecies down there would have red fins and they are more of a “swamp fish”. Awesome video! Always love the ultra light fishing
Agreed👍🏾
I agree..it was an Esox for sure. Grass Pickerel is possible, but most likely a Chain Pickerel.
John, I am envious of you, lol. You find so many creeks and enjoy fishing those creek so much. Thank you for sharing your adventures with us!
God bless you John, and the god bless everyone in the comments section.
Its cool how bodies of water can still be around after 20 years and the differences they can have. Nice video, and big chubs!
Great story John. I can still remember my first fishing trips with my friends when I was about ten in 1971. Those kinds of memories never fade.
Creeky nice 👍 you stuck with what you loved 🐟🎣 fishing
John your enthusiasm for catching anything is absolutely refreshing. The will of God will never lead you where the grace of God won't protect you.
See that turtle?! I thought it was a squirrel!! .... one of the funniest things I've heard today. Lol
Definitely, a nice looking creek to fish ultralight... those creek chubs were plentiful. Blessings, John!
Nice that you fished in the creek were you fished 20 years ago. That was a fun fishing time. That was a really nice video. Thanks John. 😊

Jon, that creek you used to fish reminded me of a creek l used to fish 45 years ago.It had lots of creek chubs, green Sunfish and amazingly lots of American Eels.l loved catching the eels. They really fought hard.
Eels are the best striper bait.
Buddies always give me crap for pan fishing all the time but it's a total surprise you never know what colors your gunna see.
theres so many ways or fish to catch out there, just do what you enjoy doing

Some of the best fishing I've done has been out of little creeks.

The fish you missed was most likely either a chain pickerel, or a red pike which is my guess
Awesome story with a awesome video!!!!
Reminds me of a few years ago when you had like 200 subscribers good stuff them big chubbs was some good bait
I was looking at those Creek Chubs and all I could think was Bait
As I like using the creek chub as bait for catfish , Largemouth Bass and Northern Pike
I catch them in a creek not far from my house

I've never used chub for catfish bait do they do really well
James they do amazing.

Believe your mystery fish is a very small chain pickerel! Cool fish, like a more warm water, smaller version of a pike.
What is the fish at 7:24? Some kind of chub?
Cool creek and nice UL setup!
The chubs are probably so big because of having no predators in that creek.
Could you imagine putting a couple 3 pound smallmouth in there? If they didnt die from lowering water levels (my guess as to why no bass) they would be absolute monsters in a year or so. It would be illegal to transport the fish anyhow, but fun to imagine :)

Nope, Log Perch!
@@justinspringfield7856 The mouth is way too big for a Logperch, although I can see why you might think that it is.
Now you know where to get excellent catfish bait

Like your videos. Wondered if there were still people like me that fish little creeks

thats a good small creek setup

Chubs are awesome live bait!!!
Really good video. 👍👍 HUGE chubs
Man, you’re sure throwing back a lot of trotline or limbline bait!
Those little redeyes are good eating
John, hellow that was a great video. Cool, wondering why no big sun? Still GOD blessed us everyday, just pay attention and GOD BLESS YOU!
I could only imagine how furious the bite would be using mini trout magnets lol
i had to cut out about a dozen more chubs from the video, you could have caught 500 fish with those tiny ones
