Cristina Gómez Godoy | Clara Schumann - Three romances, Op. 22

In 1853 Clara Schumann dedicated her Three Romances for Violin and Piano to legendary violinist Joseph Joachim. Coincidentally, the hall in which Fabio Costa and me perform this transcription for oboe and piano is named the Joseph Joachim Saal and is located at the Universität Der Künste in Berlin.

Born in Linares (Spain) in 1990, Cristina Gómez Godoy studied at the music conservatory of Linares, Jaén and Sevilla, at the Academia de Estudios Orquestales of the Barenboim-Said Foundation in Sevilla and later at the Academy of Music and Theatre in Rostock, with Gregor Witt. Cristina lives in Berlin and plays an oboe by Ludwig Frank.
In 2019 Cristina made her recital debuts at Carnegie Hall in New York and Pierre Boulez Saal in Berlin with the acclaimed pianist Michail Lifits. She has been selected as ECHO Rising Star 2020/21 nominated by L’Auditori Barcelona, which will bring her to perform as a recitalist and chamber musician at the main European venues.
In 2012, she joined the Staatskapelle Berlin as solo English Horn. In 2013 Cristina was appointed principal solo oboist of the orchestra under the baton of Daniel Barenboim. Furthermore, she is since 2015 an adjunct professor at the Universität der Künste Berlin (UdK).

These are some of my favorite romances of all time, I am so glad they are seeing the light after being overshadowed by Robert’s for so long (not that they aren’t good, they are amazing!)
