Of all car repair videos I've seen, this one is extremely thorough and helpful without needing a word of english. Because of the rust issues in my climate, I'll probably be using a hammer more than this guy did. But its so refreshing to see mechanics this composed and professional
Grate video and a in site on how to do it. For the car owner on the other hand laying on his back under axle stands and a jack without air tools is a different ball game. So I watched you're video on how to do it and set about replacing rear spring and shocks. big problem removing the 21mm bolt at bottom of the shock absorber, had the car from new 14 year old now, never had shock on before. 2 Foot power bar on it and not even budge. Ended up having to warm the casting up with a blow torch to get it to move. As I said good in site on how to do it, thanks and keep on making them, save us car owners a fortune in garage bills 🤙
I've done this same job on several of these Passats. For anyone doing it at home, it's much simpler and quicker to skip removing the spring (step 8,9,10) and just unbolt the shock absorber. You can then compress the shock with a floor jack when it is time to screw everything back together in step 38!
Copper grease perfectly protects against corrosion and sticking of parts. thus it will not allow the thread to turn sour and make it easier to replace parts next time.
In general, the replacement will be the same, the only thing that may differ slightly is the design features of your car. You can find more detailed information in the technical documentation for your car repair. AUTODOC

Yes, you are right. Thank you very much for your feedback. We are glad that our video was useful to you.
Thanks for the effort you put into these videos. The older the car the better it would be, more chances that owners work on them themselves.

Thank you for the video. I am curious about the copper grease spray that is used. What is the purpose of spraying it on the finished job?
Copper grease perfectly protects against corrosion and sticking of parts. thus it will not allow the thread to turn sour and make it easier to replace parts next time.
