I have owned my 2019 Ram Promaster since brand new and have had multiple problems! The biggest lesson I have learned and would like to share from experience is to save yourself time and aggravation and always take your van to the dealership for repairs! In most cases it is not anymore expensive when you consider it will be done right the first time. Their diagnostic computers are amazing right down to detecting my rear license plate light being out. The service technicians at my dealership are awesome and know these vehicles inside and out! Or you can take it to your closest generic auto repair shop where they will make excuses for each time you have to bring it back for the same issues! I definitely learned this lesson the hard way!

@@thev5140 I really dislike rude people! You must be sitting on your brains if you think “engine problems” does not include an alternator since the vehicle can’t run without one! Advanced Auto Parts does have a computer to check the charging system so that is not a lie. I’m sorry you have to leave mean comments to boost your self esteem.

I highly recommend that, as a new van driver, that you learn to back into parking spaces. It’s a lot easier to learn and you are using your side mirrors as a guide. You just properly adjust the side mirrors. When your are backing into the parking spot use your left mirror to slowly back around the right front of the vehicle to your left. As you clear that slowly straighten your van as you back along the side of the vehicle while also checking your right mirror look to make sure that your clear as well. Sound difficult, but it’s not. Buy a few orange cones and practice in an empty parking lot. It is also so much safer just pulling out instead of backing into the flow of traffic. Also, just park further out in a parking lot away from other vehicles if possible.

As a former DHL courier I totally agree. Backing in into parking spaces avoids the most common accidents.

I was in a tactical intelligence unit when I was in the Army, and the system I drove was basically a tractor-trailer, and believe it or not tactical parking was always easier. Just use the mirrors to line up the trailer and follow it back.

Yes backing in to parking spaces has many advantages, and when possible park in a manner that allows every having to back in or out.
Example, at your residence if real estate quantity permits, install a horseshoe driveway.

With the roof rack you can install security cameras (highly recommended). 2 on each side, front ones pointed back and the rear ones pointed forward and a top in the middle back up camera. Then EVERY parking becomes easy, and you have security too. There are a few van builds on YT that show how good 5 or more cameras are a must have.

New vehicles are heavily dependent on computers, and they are sipping away your battery power when it is sitting idle for a long time. You either put a trickle charger on the battery or start it up and leave it running for 15 minutes or more to charge it back up. Besides, running the engine circulates oil on the engine and the transmission. Hope the Engine light stays OFF!🙏

Just reset the light. Give it another chance. Also be aware of weight and weight distribution when building the van. Lightweight items are available. 3/4 plywood is heavy. The wrong insulation in the walls and ceiling can rattle when driving. Careful!

Trust me, you'll get used to driving it. What you always need to keep on your radar is: 1. Your overhead limits when driving into places, and 2. Caution when pulling into gas station bays to get gas. They often have cement columns to protect the pumps and you don't want to hit them. :)

You probably had a low battery. That would be the most common problem. Just ðriving a few blocks doesnt fully charge the battery. Its time to add a house battery and use the starting battery strictly for starting. And you will have a battery meter for getting an actual reading on your batteries. And im happy the windows went well. No leaks! You're now officially a van builder. Anyone can throw in an interior. But cutting holes and having no water come in is the real test. So from here on in the build will be a lot easier.
    Time to celebrate with bunny!
    You're doing a fabulous job.

Those vinyl flooring are tricky to install! Leave them in the van for a week (leave them spread out where each piece will be) before putting them down permanently. Change in temperature will leave gaps between them afterward if you don't let them acclimated to the new environment.

One tip with a vehicle so large is to remember to not pull into parking spots unless you are able to drive straight out as reversing out if others park next to and behind you can make it impossible. I always reverse into parking spots to make leaving a breeze

You should add a sound dampening material like dynamat to interior of the van. It is expensive but it will reduce both sound and vibration. Alternatively, it will also give you a small amount of insulation, which is needed in Florida to keep the van cool in the summer months. If you decide to, it needs to be done before you install the interior.

BALTIC BIRCH PLYWOOD (19mm) is the BEST for cabinet making and other fine work where plywood is needed for stability, such as high grade kitchen cabinets. There are more ply's and only top pick ply's all the way through, unlike standard construction grade using softwoods, but all Birch throughout.
Almost like solid boards and stable for warping. Great choice

Awesome! No leaks..😄 Just my own opinion, but after building out and traveling is a few vans I'd suggest skipping the adhesive and the 1x2's under the plywood. They're really not needed and having wood there can feed mold. The polyiso foam board is stronger than you think, and won't compress under the plywood (Mine's been fine for more than 5 year in my PM). Also, make sure and seal or paint the plywood (Edges and the underside). That way it won't absorb moisture or odors if water does get into the van somehow. Van's coming along nicely!

Sometimes, an engine light could be as simple as not tightening the gas cap. Plus, check the seal on the gas cap. Likely not the problem on a van this new, but you never know.

Hopefully, that engine issue won't come back. If it does, take it straight to the dealer. In my experience, it's better to just drop by in person with an issue like that. If you call, they'll always tell you the can't fit you in for 1-2 weeks. Given the mileage, the drive train is still under warranty. Their diagnostic tools will tell them specifically what the issue is and fixing it will be on them, not you.

I always enjoy your videos. You do a great job of bringing the audience along with you.
I think a power station is a great idea. You can seamlesly imcorporate it into your build from the start.
I use a Bluetti on my truck camper. I can plug the 30 amp power cord directly into the unit.
There are some advantages too, for instance, you can easily remove it if you get a new camper or if you need it for a power emergency in your home. The Bluetti is also expandable in case your power needs grow.
I like that it has all the components for a solar setup in one neat box, charge controller, battery, and an inverter.
    .
Don't make the mistake of going too small. With 400 watts on the roof get the largest watt hour unit that you can afford dont start small. And be sure it is expandable, as the Bluetti is, in case your power needs grow.
    .
    Good luck!
    Thanks for the video.

It can save you a lot of headaches when dealing with repair shops and such if you already know some information before showing up. Parking will come with time in the vehicle and driving around, your confidence level will continue to grow exponentially the more you drive. Have fun and try not to stress....

to back up: keep looking at the same mirror as you are turning so you get a consistant visual of your angle going in. Go slow and take a quick glance at the other side mirror and rearview 1/2 way through to the backing to make sure nothing has popped up or someone walk into your patch. You'll figure out quickly how long it takes to turn the van and then it's just lining it up and watching that mirror and the line you want to be next to as you make the turn. Yes, learning to back with mirrors is a learned skill. Practicing in an empty lot is the PERFECT way to learn it. It does't matter that the first time you took 2 spaces, your brain and your muscles saw the arc the van made as you turned it. Over a few more times they will "know" how sharply the van will turn and you'll adjust that part way through the turn in to be where you want. I'm guessing you've already got it down if you are worried about it and working on it. ;)

Hi, just had to make a comment. I purchased a 2019 Ram Promaster a couple years back, and when I left, it sit for a while without starting it. The van would not start! I would have to jump start with my Noco Jump Starter-nice item to have! I, too, had the battery checked a couple of times and was told the battery was fine. Finally, one day, the check engine light came on for low voltage, but this time, they said the battery was bad. Replaced the battery and was told that the check engine light would go off after I drove it for a while. After a while, the light went off! So I expect just driving was your cure. You should start your van ever so often and one day that battery will go bad

Try starting the van and let run until it gets up to operating temperature once a week ,if it's sitting idle. Maybe consider a backup camera , it will make backing up easier if you will be visiting campgrounds. At some point adding cameras so you have a 360 degree view of the outside of your vehicle will give you some peace of mind at night while remote camping solo. Unless of course Bunny "barks loud enough" to deter any nosy people. Good idea on finding someone local who's familiar with van build outs!

Thank you for sharing this. I am considering a van so these videos help me decide one over another. Sounds dumb since all vehicles have problems. I have a Chevy truck and my check engine light comes on and goes off all the time? Sometimes it can be something simple like the gas cap not on tight. My biggest pet peave is my trailer brake buzzer goes off to get it serviced. I have never ever used it and it wont let me cancel warning and I have to listen to the warning sound all the time? Very annoying. Good luck with your van. Stay safe.

It can be an air filter... or top up on power steering fluid. Check the oil. Etc. Main reason these come on automatically is every 20,000 mile maintenance check up. You still have 3,000 mile too that. Check the manual for automatic checkup miles. That light will start too shut your car down and force you into the dealership for a scheduled electronic maintenance. Good luck.😊

    Miss Elisa,
I so wish more people would take a basic mechanic course! Raising my kids, my girls especially I had them in the shop with me as we restored motorcycles and my Willys. You are correct about the Baltic Birch plywood, average plywood is 5 ply where Baltic Birch is 9ply meaning more layers glued up for rigidity. Also it's finished on both sides with knot free veneers.
A note for the future, your rooftop AC units have the same size access hole as your vents, so just remove a vent to install an AC in the future.
I wrote a lengthy comment about floor framing and then wrote you an email offering any assistance but I am truly happy you found someone local. I enjoyed bunny time, you both are quite Beautiful in your own ways and a joy to watch you growing as you build your dream.
As an Over The Road truck driver I aimed my mirrors at my trailer's tires to judge where to pivot backing up. You can do the same with your van, if you can see the tires in your mirror then you know where they are headed while turning. it's also good for city driving seeing the rear tires as you turn corners.
Wishing you the best of luck.
With Love and Respect, You are in my prayers

With the floor....stick on sound deadening patches are great for floor (and walls and doors too.). Insulate all internal surfaces well. Multiple layers. . For walls and ceilings, suggest you lay in electric cables before walls/ceiling are finished. Roof racks are good, especially for solar and cameras. For front seats, see if you can find ones that rotate to face back into van as well. Lastly, as space is limited, good design principle is every space is a multi function space (Must have at least 2 uses, 3 if possible. For example, Storage under bed, plus table slides out from under bed. Shower and toilet in same space..etc.etc.

I'm sure others have already told you this, but a P0562 code on your van is due to a voltage drop in the system. I see that others have mentioned putting a trickle charger on the battery if it's going to sit for long periods, or even if you're only going to drive it for very short trips. This will not allow your battery to stay charged and will drain it slowly over time if you're not careful. Try driving your van for 30-45 consecutive minutes per week or putting a trickle charger on the battery to keep it topped off. That would explain why the light went off after you washed it. :) The battery probably drained too much while sitting but got charged enough to clear the code as you were out running errands.
If you see a yellow, solid light, you should be good to drive the vehicle until you can get the ECU read, so long as it's not running erratically. If it's flashing and/or not running properly, you may have issues. If that light comes on and it's red, pull over IMMEDIATELY and have it towed to a mechanic. Red check engine lights are VERY bad news and should be investigated ASAP.

Often warning lights occur from faulty sensors. The issues can occur intermittently & don't always indicate a problem with what the light is warning about. Diagnosing the problem can be frustrating because if the problem is intermittent, diagnosis can only occur when issue is occurring. Also, faulty wiring, A wiring harness burned thru & shorted due to harness routing where it comes into contact with a hot manifold or something. There could also be a loose ground somewhere.

Keep practicing the backing into parking spots and it will all start coming together. I agree with the comment about keeping the van battery on a trickle charger. There are electrical systems that draw from the battery when the van isn't running so keeping it charged with a trickle charger is an affordable solution.

With electronics no telling, but I have had a fault code cause the engine light to appear but the sensor was good. I disconnected the battery terminals, cleaned and reinstalled, and presto, the engine light went off. Gremlins lol. I attached a Gremlin Bell to my Harley to help prevent that. 🙂 You should have seen me backing when I first started driving a tractor trailer, lol was comical to say the least. I have a suggestion for flooring of your van you may want to use waterproof rooftop adhesive sheets. Instead of plywood( plywood in long run may rot) by using the rubber sheets you get insulation as well as waterproofing they’re about 4 foot wide and you can get them from Lowe’s or Home Depot.
Also, the problem with the van maybe because of a temperature change if your gas tank is not full and it has been sitting for a while, the gas tank vaporizes and put pressure on the system and your engine light comes on .

2003, for our ExpeditionVehicle, we painted marine plywood on all surfaces to seal.
On the box floor, we laid one-inch pink-board, then the plywood over that.
      .
Our visible floor is slate in the center, with bamboo on the perimeter.
      .
      Over two decades full-time live-aboard.
The pink-board looks new, zero deformation.

The engine light is to show faults with the emissions sensors.
It's not unusual for the light to come on if the sensor voltage jumps or drops momentarily.
You should buy an elm 427 scanner to plug into your obdII along with an app for reading the codes on your cell phone. I use an app called torque. This will save you visiting the garage every time the engine light appears.
    Nice build so far.

I spent $20 USD on an WiFi/Bluetooth OBD II scanner. Now I do not have to take my car to an AutoParts place or depend on my personal mechanic to read/clear Check Engine lights on my 2010 Mustang.
Having this one tool has given me back the power when it comes to my car's engine repairs. (and has saved me a lot of money). Still gotta Mark I estimate mechanical issues...but when it comes to the computer controlled parts of my car...I can learn as much as my mechanic.
So buy yourself an OBD II unit...save yourself alot of hassles and not knowing why your service engine light is on.
