in a way ruyi flipped her situation from her aunt, Empress Yixiu was abandoned in jingren palace by the yongzheng emperor. But her cutting her hair, she was the one that abandoned the emperor. she was done being the main wife, she was done being the empress, she was done being a harem woman.
The way Ruyi calmly softly and elegantly told the emperor about orchid beginnings, that she no longer loved him, that her love was all gone, that she was fed up (but so calm) was classy! Her character has more class and dignity than anyone among the consorts and even more than the emperor himself or his mother.
Ruyi died free. She was free from the strict rules of the harem and able to leave as she pleased. If it pleased her to have tea with her attendant,then she could do so.
Ruyi's gaze is saying many things to Qianlong. Emperor, you still don't understand that I don't want to see you anymore, I don't want to be by your side anymore, my love as a woman has come to an end and my duty as an empress is over. She was selfless to the end. She didn't want anyone to see her suffer. She loved with her whole heart. She'd rather suffer alone and pretend she was getting better than let her sisters and the Emperor know how far she was gone. 3 people my heart hurts for are Rongpei, Hailan, Hongli and by extension Yongji. Some may disagree with me but as I keep saying Hongli loved her, but he is a weak man who let his ego and pride get in the way of something so pure.
I totally agree with you on that one! he started treating her just like the old queen but worser. His pride got the best of him, and he thought he lost her when he was the one who was lost. I feel bad for Ruyi and what she had to endure. and I feel bad for Hongli for listening to lies instead of trusting her but at the same time he didn't know what to believe :(
A little late, but something everyone will appreciate: in the novel Ruyi kills herself after Wei Yanwan goes to visit her in Yikun Palace, thus making Qianlong suspicious of Yanwan's actions. As she is dying, her mind wanders to a man being standing in a garden surrounded by a certain type of flower (can't remember the name right now); although his face isn't seen, it is strongly implied that it was Ling Yunche who had come to meet her and take her to the afterlife, since the flower mentioned was one he once told her about while talking about his hometown.

I love the fact tried to get her people out of there, well suoxin , she tried with arou but she was just stupid. I dont blame ruyi for leaving. She was literally surrounded by death. Her only peace and escape was death.
In my personal opinion.. **Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace** was one of the Very Best Directed & Especially Casted Chinese Historical Dramas that I've ever seen. I've viewed a LOT of C-Historical Dramas. This drama had all top notch casting... and they didn't play around with expressing this historical drama. It was made specifically for those to understand the history of all the women in the Emperor house & the ordeals & betrayals that the Empress had to face... even when she knew that she was not in the wrong... yet the Emperor who was once upon a time a childhood friend ... became a tyrant, a person he didn't know any longer. Women of all sorts can be very devious and greedy. Ruyi didn't want to be here if you saw at the beginning... but as a friend ... She stayed by her friend side only to be abused by him and those who sought the golden seat. The ending had me so heartbroken & in tears... but also angry for what the Emperor did. Was there a good reasoning by his actions??? Maybe... it's up in the air for me. This drama can't be matched ... I have a great deal of respect for whoever directed this & for the amazing talented cast that embraced the history of each of these women. Above all ... Actress: Zhou Xun (aka Ruyi) 🔥 She was the Light of this drama!!!!

There was another one regarding another emperor and his concubine when Empress Cixi was alive. Didn't Hongli live 33 years longer than Ruyi? Hailan found Hongli a Ruyi lookalike when he was in his 60s. 10th princess from that union was his favourite child, he even declared if she had not been a girl she would have been made the heir to the throne.
The emperar always was a meek ungrateful man, who never loved, cherished nor defended Ruyi. He was simply a coward, unworthy of her love nor respect. He was a wimp.😠😠😠
