Thank you so much for making this amazing video! I’m an incoming freshman and have been preparing to apply for internships and your video really helped!
Super helpful video! I'll be a freshman this year and although I know some basic syntax, I haven't made any projects or really learned data structures. Since applications open up soon I was wondering if you had recommendations on which I should focus in the short term. Was also wondering if you had more specific advice for connecting and creating a profile on LinkedIn with zero experience. Thanks in advance!
I have a few questions. What did you tell the recruiter to avoid sounding snobby or entitled or like you're begging Where did you learn DSA What exactly did you do for the technical interview. Is there two options for the interview or is It only by call. Thanks for making the video
What's up! Let me answer these questions: 1. I messaged my recruiter that I had already applied to the internship, and if there was anything else I could do to help make the process easier for Microsoft to be able to see my application. 2. I didn't know DSA before my interview! I looked at a video overviewing the DSA concepts just to gain a better understanding of the types of information I may be asked! Understanding data structures is important for those final round interviews/even the behavioral interview! 3. I coded during the 2 interviews! 2-45min technical interviews. 4. Usually, the behavioral interview is a phone call, and the technical interviews are on Microsoft Teams! Hope this helps! Cheers mate!
Thanks for the video! I have my initial phone interview for Microsoft Explore next Wednesday and am dying from the nerves lol. Do you have any other advice for the interview or what to expect specifically during the call? (this is also my first interview with anyone ever so that's not good lol 😬)
Hey Luis! Sorry for replying so late to your comment - I hope the interview went well! I'm sure you did great, but Glassdoor.com is a GREAT way to practice and learn some of the interview questions. If you have moved on to the technical aspect of this, I highly recommend Glassdoor.com for the Leetcode-style questions that they ask.
Great Video! I had a few questions about resumes and your process of the interview. How long did it take for Microsoft to reach out to you to schedule your first interview? Also I'm currently a sophomore and aside from my CS courses with java from school, I recently have completed my Google Data Analytics Professional Certification Program-which according to Google, prepares you for an entry level job as a data analyst using SQL and R- With 2 CS courses complete (elementary data structures and algorithms being 1 of them), and my experience using SQL and R, do you think that may be enough to pass the resume screening? Sorry for the long description, but thanks in advance!
Hi Joseph! I remember when I was applying, my application was looked at only when I reached out to my campus recruiter. If possible, you should see if your school has a specific campus recruiter that may be able to help you move forward with the process. I had applied in early September, but they looked at my application in December. In terms of your course work, it seems like a great amount of content! Most freshman or sophomores haven't completed that many CS courses, so that isn't really a pre-req for the internship. I hope this helps - good luck with the process!
Hello! First of all, thank you so much for making this video. I am applying explore intern this year and I am not sure where to apply. I have checked the explore program website and I don’t see anything that would take me to apply. I am just wondering how did you submit your application?
Hi, i have a question. My recruiter said I should study introductory computer science concepts. But what exactly is that? Does arrays, linked lists, trees, recursion fall under that or is it more ... or less. Ik its a broad question but if u can remember the type of questions you had on ur technical interview id appreciate it 😁
Hi Max de great! Thanks for checking out this video! Your recruiter is right - get a general understanding of Data Structures and Algorithms! You don't need to be a pro at it, just understand the fundamentals!
Thank you for the video! I'm in a stressful position right now because I was too busy with school in the fall and didn't look into applying for internships until now. I heard that most tech company internships have ended/are ending, and it was just now that I came to hear about Microsoft Explore. Is it still possible to apply for it now? I'm pretty stressed, so thanks in advance for any suggestions!
Hey! It doesn't hurt to apply! Don't worry - I started my application pretty late. I'm sure something will turn out 🙏🏼 Don't give up hope yet! I believe in you.
Love this video! How long after you applied did you start to reach out to the recruiter? I applied this week but I don’t want to come up as being too agressive if I reach out rn haha
I’m currently studying bachelor degree in business administration! I’m looking for internships at Microsoft! Can you help me! Concentration in finance! There’s is a finance rotation internship program there! Please reply me!
Hi Walter. Thanks for this video. I am a student pursuing a double major in Comp Sci and Cyber Security. I watched it some time back before joining college not knowing that I will at one point also apply for the program. I am reachingout to ask for any advice because my application currently shows a 'transferred status.' I have tried to contact recruiters though everyone refers me to someone else which is kind of annoying. I sent you a linked in invite so I would love to connect with you and talk to you about this. I am awaiting your response. Thanks
I really enjoyed you video!! I'm a rising sophomore in fall on leave of absence and I decided to change my major to cs after studying for an intro cs course at my college on my own. From studying this course on my own, I learned recursion, oop, intro to trees, etc(cs 61a at berkeley if you know it). I don't really know anything about data structures. I really would like to apply for microsoft explore in my sophomore year, but I'm not sure if I'll have a chance. Firstly, I will actually be taking my first cs course in the fall while applying to the internship. Secondly, I feel really behind compared to others as I'm a sophomore taking an intro course. Do you think microsoft explore will still consider me despite lack of courses and experience and what do you think I should do on my own until applying season to boost my chances at this internship program?
Hi! First and foremost, it's so great that you've begun to self study. Wow - I am so impressed in your dedication to get ahead of the curve. I am rooting for you! In terms of maximizing your chances with practice, I would say: get a head start with programming questions, specifically LeetCode questions! You can search up the video "DSA in 15 mins" to get a quick recap of the subject. It is okay that you don't know that much when it comes to programming...this program was MEANT for those getting into the space to "explore" 😊. Microsoft will definitely consider if you show interest in continuous learning and growth - this is the key to gaining the internship opportunity (and many others). I want to make another video about maximizing your chances at this internship - would that help?
@@notwaltervilla yes that would help a lot! Thanks, I really appreciate your detailed reply and a video to maximize chances would tremendously help! I will be looking forward to the video if you decide to make it.
Hi bro! I am not sure about New York specific, but perhaps asking your college to see if they have any connections/ties to Microsoft might be the best way to go about it. Additionally, you may be able to message recruiters on LinkedIn in the NY area if you search for that. I was able to talk to my recruiter through my college, but I am sure that there are recruiters on LinkedIn that are just as equal to help :) Hope everything goes well!
Great video! Im going to start applying for internships in a couple months, what type of projects or experience did your resume have? What would you recommend I do to maximize my chances of getting an internship? thanks for the video
Hey man! I've been meaning to make a video about my resume and activities that I used to apply to Microsoft, IBM, and Google SWE opportunities with success. To give you a quick answer tho, I worked at a start up before Microsoft doing some basic front end work (HTML and CSS with Vue). I had some class projects as well; I recommend putting down things that you can talk about and that is able to help you tell your story with coding.
I believe if you have a VISA to study in the US, you are able to apply for these internships as well. Don't quote me on this though! I have heard from friends that this is the case.
Hey Walter, would it be possible to connect with your recruiter? I'm applying to the explore internship that opened up today and connected with you on LinkedIn :)

I'm going to begin college this fall..this is some high quality advice
Update on your application?
I really enjoyed your video. I would definitely want to watch a video about the other parts of the process for you

It took a while to get in touch with one! They are super busy, so I was able to talk to one around late December. So, start bugging them now!!
Thanks! Do you have any tips in terms of how to approach/what exactly to say for the “I already applied” email to be sent to the recruiter?
I second this : ) !!
