Toledo: Better than you think. I used to live on Spencer Street. Went to school there. The Hood? Offered me affordability, close to everything. Sure, there's abandoned places. But I also saw some upkeep as much as they could afford. And PRIDE. Pride goes a Hell of a long way in my Character Book.
Recently retired to Toledo to be close to family, after living for sixty years in South Florida. Toledo is indeed the little-big town that could. Lots of character and history. Plenty to do outdoors. Great parks and art. If you like to “make things with your hands” Toledo has plenty of people and suppliers around. Toledo will wind up reinventing itself with the right leadership.

At 8:45 - I used to walk a few blocks from my house to that Stanley's Market all the time as a kid to buy candy and stuff in the early 90s. At 9:00, that's the right turn for the street I grew up on. I also used to bike to the Lagrange Street Library all the time, and I got my first few jobs at stores on Manhattan Blvd. This part of north Toledo was already a lower-income area in the 90s, but this video looks even more run-down than I remember.
@Merril R It was a mostly black working class neighborhood when I moved there in the late 80s, but there were still some remnants of the original Polish population there. By the time I hit junior high a few years later, a lot of my former grade school friends were wearing gang colors and shit and my family suddenly lived a few doors down from a drug house. I moved in 2003 and barely missed the huge riot that happened in the area a couple years later when they let the goddamn KKK and literal Nazis march through the neighborhood.
That big white house on Hudson behind the gray jeep was built by my great aunt and her husband back in the the early years of 1900. It was a beautiful home built on three lots complete with a three car garage with a huge loft, beautiful gardens, both flower and vegetable. I have warm memories of spending many Saturday nights in that house with my "Nanty". You should see it now, the stuff nightmares are made of. The guy that lives there was on the news recently, he was shot on his own doorstep when he looked outside to see what a big fuss was about in his yard coming from the night club next door.

Toledo is a declining Midwestern city, I live here too and the decline isn’t as drastic as in Detroit or Cleveland but Toledo was a better place. I wish I could just fix up the declining old neighborhoods and old warehouses around the city. Downtown does look nice and they’ve fixed up and restored a lot of old buildings like the old Coal factory for example but I wish they could do the same to the old neighborhoods right by downtown. I live in the old south end and I will admit it’s not as bad as some other areas of the city, but a lot of the houses are rundown and sometimes abandoned. Overall I just hate seeing the declining infrastructure and old middle class neighborhoods that were once
Toledo is the same size of cleveland it just needs to bring more jobs and get its population back up to 300,000 i think its 274,000 now .. build more houses and fix the one needing fixing

Back in the 70s, we had friends of the family that lived in the Old West End (Which I understand is still kept nice even today), and their kids both graduated from Scott HS in 1978 and 1980, but I know they all left Toledo sometime in the mid/ late 80s, with the parents retiring in Florida, and the kids moving to Cali and Arizona after college... I haven't been in Toledo since way back then...
I lived in the Old West End back in the late 60's and early 70's. Went back to see my old home in the late 80's and again in the 90's. The neighborhood is a slum. My old home was boarded up and the entire area was trashed. Neighbor's house across the street had been demolished. It looks nothing like it did when I was a young child. It was depressing. Only thing I found was my brother's name and my name still written in the driveway we had layed down while still living there.
My mom went to Scott in 1967 and she got expelled so had to go to Witmer after that. She grew up tough but it is far from the worst neighborhood even today.
My grandparents lived at 1170 Lincoln Ave. Someone told me that was in "old West End." As a child, I thought it was depressing. But we lived in Washington DC. Washington was the place that was different, and Toledo was more typical. No industry to speak of in DC.
I see videos all over TH-cam about how terrible Toledo is...yes it definitely has its issues but it's no worse than any other city in the US...I travel extensively for work and can name much worst places to live....most recently Blytheville Arkansas....look up those statistics compared to my city! I moved away a couple years ago (about 35 miles south) but Toledo is and will always be home to me! I've never once felt like I was in danger....just mind your business be respectful and confident (dont act better than or scared) and you have nothing to worry about! 419!!!

Grew up in the south end in the 60's and 70's. What a great area then. Had to leave Toledo in the early 80's " No Jobs". Went back there several time through the years. Sad to see my old neighborhood in such bad shape. All the Mom and Pop businesses down Broadway gone. Fell bad for the people that didn't get out.

I was a Toledo resident for more than 30 years. Though some of the places I lived were certainly marginal in various ways, I tried to avoid the "worst" neighborhoods, msoI am almost entirely lost viewing this. Some cues about where these places are located would be useful. And what are your criteria for "worst neighborhoods? By crime statistics, obvious lack of maintenance of dwellings? This was a waste of time for me.
You started off on Burger Street and turned right towards the projects.... If you go left there's a decent pond people always fishing (Hecky's Pond)... At least most of the grass was cut and there wasn't too much trash laying around on the streets. The East side's a good place....You still have to interact with your neighbors..... Everyone gets along for the most part.... When we can tolerate each other, well do... Everyone's always got the music turned up, grills going... It's not about Black, Middle Eastern,,Latino, Asian ,White on the east side.... It's about doing what we can for ourselves and then taking care of everyone else after that... People do tend to never leave or they come back. Even when we lose houses we divide the lot up in between the neighbors open things up and move forward without losing respect for our past. Call it what you want the east side never gives up.
The East side might as well be a different city. Its just so different from the rest of toledo and I'm not meaning in a bad way. Eastsiders are just a different breed. I have a couple friends from the east and they arent afraid of nothin and they dont play. Lol

The city has become a shell of what it was in the 80's. There were plenty of jobs outside of fastfood. There weren't near as many problems with drugs. And the neighborhoods were managed. There were problems at that time too, but Toledo has fallen apart.
No, these aren't the worst areas for sure. The streets aren't great, but a lot of the alleys look like the F-16's used them for bomb practice. Of all the people I got to know from Toledo, mostly from the eastside, most are decent people. But maybe thats just me. Maybe Toledo needs Carty back.

Those neighborhoods don't look that bad actually. The only thing bad are the streets. They need to be resurfaced.
We are well known for horrible roads, but just cross border to Michigan and they are even worse.

I lived all over the south end Broadway,Segur,Gordon/Hawley, let's just say while there are "questionable" neighborhoods in those areas there is a lot of room for improvement.
Toledo looks pretty good to me. And it looks like they keep their streets cleans free of trash in needles. Nobody is posted on the corners or laid out on the streets keep up the good work!

@@TeeTee-x6x the first 2 minutes is the eastside, from 2mins to 6mins hes on the southside, 6mins to 7:30 idk i couldnt see anything familiar, and 7:30 onwards is central and a lil bit of north toledo.
@@TeeTee-x6x yes, i would say north toledo is probably the worst part of toledo atm. if you look on a map most people would consider everything right of north detroit but everything above downtown and everything below manhattan ave to be considered the north. that part of the city is where alot of the murders are happening this year. aswell as the westside(auburn/bancroft) area. Dont get me wrong this video has some hood in it but idk if you from the city they never really drive through the housing projects which the eastside has most of but he didnt even go to one of them.

Grew up in the south end in the 60's and 70's. What a great area then. Had to leave Toledo in the early 80's " No Jobs". Went back there several time through the years. Sad to see my old neighborhood in such bad shape. All the Mom and Pop businesses down Broadway gone. Fell bad for the people that didn't get out.
I was Born and Raised here in Toledo, Ohio On Poplar St. I went to Garfield School and then unto Waite High School.

I was a Toledo resident for more than 30 years. Though some of the places I lived were certainly marginal in various ways, I tried to avoid the "worst" neighborhoods, msoI am almost entirely lost viewing this. Some cues about where these places are located would be useful. And what are your criteria for "worst neighborhoods? By crime statistics, obvious lack of maintenance of dwellings? This was a waste of time for me.

You started off on Burger Street and turned right towards the projects.... If you go left there's a decent pond people always fishing (Hecky's Pond)... At least most of the grass was cut and there wasn't too much trash laying around on the streets. The East side's a good place....You still have to interact with your neighbors..... Everyone gets along for the most part.... When we can tolerate each other, well do... Everyone's always got the music turned up, grills going... It's not about Black, Middle Eastern,,Latino, Asian ,White on the east side.... It's about doing what we can for ourselves and then taking care of everyone else after that... People do tend to never leave or they come back. Even when we lose houses we divide the lot up in between the neighbors open things up and move forward without losing respect for our past. Call it what you want the east side never gives up.
The East side might as well be a different city. Its just so different from the rest of toledo and I'm not meaning in a bad way. Eastsiders are just a different breed. I have a couple friends from the east and they arent afraid of nothin and they dont play. Lol

The city has become a shell of what it was in the 80's. There were plenty of jobs outside of fastfood. There weren't near as many problems with drugs. And the neighborhoods were managed. There were problems at that time too, but Toledo has fallen apart.

No, these aren't the worst areas for sure. The streets aren't great, but a lot of the alleys look like the F-16's used them for bomb practice. Of all the people I got to know from Toledo, mostly from the eastside, most are decent people. But maybe thats just me. Maybe Toledo needs Carty back.
