- Days of our Lives longtime favorites: Chandler Massey (Will Horton) and Freddie Smith (Sonny Kiriakis) made their final appearance this week on the NBC daytime drama series, as their characters were written off the show. The on-screen duo known as 'WilSon" found out over 7 months ago they were exiting and actually taped their last shows then.
Now in this very special and candid interview with Michael Fairman for The Michael Fairman Channel, taped this week, and following their departure, Chandler and Freddie walk through their time on-screen and off-screen over the past decade playing DAYS' LGBTQ duo.

31:50 You are absolutely right Chandler you 1000% earned those scenes. I'm not hating on Guy but come on... no one can be Will Horton other than Chandler. His natural, charming, effortless acting is on a whole different level. To the point that even when Will does one of his impulsive decisions or gets reckless, i've never hated Will played by Chandler...you just can't❤️

Just one thing I have to say: for me, Chandler Massey is Will Horton. Just like Freddie Smith is Sonny, Deidre Hall is Marlena, Lauren Koslow is Kate, etc. I’ve never been able to associate the role with any other actor, and I definitely won’t be in the future.
100% Agreed like Joe Mascolo is Stefano, Drake Hogestyn is John Black, Allison Sweeny is Sami, Bryan Datillo is Lucas. The only one that comes to mind right now that I would be okay with is Belle. I feel Martha Madison or Kristen Storms would do Belle just but maybe that's me idk
Growing up watching DOOL, it was beautiful to finally see a love like mine portrayed by these two very fine actors. Thank you both for breaking barriers and changing the face of love on daytime! Wish you both the best!!

The only sad part is neither of them are gay and it hurts me a lot .
I kind of feel violated as if they are just so desperate to grab the roles.
I know I must appreciate their efforts that despite being straight they are willing to act so perfectly.I shall appreciate their acting skills not their sexual orientations.
But I don't know why I still can't digest it. I feel only gay men in real life shall be portrayed as gay characters on camera. I am definitely wrong at my opinion I know but still somewhere I have a point in thar

@@cheddie4life773 Its just that I can relate to the characters more if they are gay in actual lives, (I can crush on them too) , I feel the straight actors are snatching role of a gay person, firstly the representation of LGBT characters is a lot lot lesser than straight characters secondly even the gay role is played by a straight person , that hurts tbh they literally grabbed even the role of a gay person

@@bossboy71 I can see your point and I agree with what you're saying. At the same time, I have mixed feelings because I feel that these two both played the roles so well and, really, they're doing a service to the community with their positive portrayal of the characters. It shouldn't matter who is playing the role, as long as they show it the respect it deserves.
In trying to seek fairness in representation, I think we might be going too hard the other way. If we don't want LGBT+ actors to be treated poorly for their orientation, we shouldn't judge these two for theirs either. Just my feeling, everyone's views are different.
You also have actors like Greg Rikkart and Tuc Watkins who play straight characters and play them well. The fact that they're gay doesn't diminish their work.
This was awesome and Thank you Michael for all the interviews and press you have done with Freddie and Chandler, each and every one has been a joy and informative and so real... wish all three of you the best.

Thanks for doing this. I wish these guys well and hope to see them do something creative soon. I'm really going to miss them terribly.
I've followed their entire Days journey, and they are one of the most important couples the show has ever had. Chandler's early work, combining his coming out struggle and his lashing out as Sami, was absolutely riveting. I took clips of his arc to work years ago to re-watch during lunch, and everyone at work got sucked right in. And I sobbed when Uncle Vic told Sonny that Will had been murdered. Freddie playing Sonny's breakdown over the chalk outline of Will's body still haunts me.
It's truly a tribute to the talent and chemistry of all of the actors (all straight!) -- Guy Wilson, Christopher Sean, but particularly Chandler and Freddie -- that a gay couple survived long-term on daytime's most conservative show and continues to resonate so strongly. Losing them the first time was a devastating blow, but at least this time they walked off in the sunset together.
And how is it that Chandler looks even sexier here now than I've ever seen him?? Holy crap he's making me drool.

Chandler is hilarious!!! I don’t understand how he has not been gobbled up by some Big Network series. Chandler is an awesome actor, he does drama so well, and he is funny naturally, plus he is HOT AF!!!! Wake up Hollywood!!!! Make this man a superstar!!!

31:55 You're so right, Chandler! I remember back when Guy Wilson came along. I had fallen in love with Cheddie, and I used to wonder when they were gonna get married. But then they asked you to leave the show. I was really pissed off that day. One, because they got rid of you. Two, because they got rid of you before the Nick Fallon storyline was over. It was YOUR storyline. I wanted to you be there til it was over.
And to make it worse, the proposal happened. I don't know how mad I got that day. I was so depressing to know that I had waited all that time for Will and Sonny to get married as Chandler and Freddie, and SO SOON after you left and Guy Wilson came, the proposal and marriage happened. It was heartbreaking. I still haven't fully gotten over it.
Guy was the worst! No offense to the guy (no pun intended), but he was a terrible choice for Will. I couldn't stand him. You can't replace Chandler anyway, but I think one reason I immediately liked him so much, and this is going to make me sound horrible, was because I hated the kid who preceded him. He had played Will for a long time,, and I never liked him, so when Chandler came along he was such an improvement in my eyes that I instantly fell in love with his take on the character. Prior to Chandler I hadn't liked Will since he was a baby/toddler. That OG Will was adorable. Also, Freddie is the only Sonny I'll accept. With any other actors the pairing jusy does not work. It has to be BOTH of them.

It’s so sad that tptb decided to end this storyline. They are such talented guys. I hope they move on to bigger and better things whether it be acting or something else. Thanks Michael for doing this interview and putting closure on Wilson for all us fans.

it is taking so much restraint to not comment on every moment of this interview, especially since i do not even know if michael fairman reads the comments. in any case, the interview was so good but also so sad, because it would not have happened if they were still on the show. when michael fairman worked for days of our lives, i always felt like he was the only one who appreciated chandler and freddie. i guess that feeling has been confirmed by the way they were let go. i really hope he keeps in touch with them and is even willing to do more interviews just catching up with them even if they do not go back.
anyway, chandler looks so gorgeous. i wonder what he was so distracted by, though. and i also wonder why he did not mention that he is going into economics when michael asked about his plans. he is giving me false hope here that he may act again!
i am not even going to go into chandler not getting to do the wedding, because boy is that infuriating, and i did not even start watching until he came back. though again, i would love for michael to find out why days thought that was an okay thing to do to chandler and his fans since the decision was purely out of spite. shit . . . . i guess i did go into it.
also, freddie needs to tone down his cockiness. it is reaching camila banus levels of diva (but not quite as bad) with him basically saying he deserves an emmy, and it is not flattering. plus, he thinks days would fly a crew to atlanta so he and chandler can shoot scenes there? and do not get me started on how much he brags about having a couple thousand subscribers. come on, man!!
On reflection my favorite actor of the teens has been Chandler Massey (and yes, I love Freddie too) - but Chandler is the very best of the best for the past decade. He brings so many layers - I prayed he would come back to the show and they would bring Will back from the dead (something I am usually against on soaps). I hope we see Chandler in other things in the future or more guest stints on Days - the show isn't all that good right now and part of that is that Wilson is gone. So glad they are both Emmy winners. I simply love Chandler so so so much!

Truly one of the best Days couples of all time. Certainly the best one to come out of the show in awhile. I kind of hate that they're labeled a gay couple though. I don't mind them being gay, I'm just against the label itself. In my eyes there's no such thing as a gay couple or a straight couple, there are only couples, and they come in all shapes and sizes. I've never thought of the characters as gay. Sonny and Will, to me, are just two characters in love with each other. Will and Sonny are right up there with John/Marlena, Bo/Hope.

One of the amazing things was how I loved Will and Sonny, I loved Will and Paul and I loved Sonny and Paul! It was an extra special triangle because they were all so rootable!!!!

Chandler deserves this year's Emmy, not Freddie. Chandler was better in those scenes - I love Freddie but Chandler is way more deserving!
In this interview at certain points when Chandler turns his head to the left he bears a resemblance to Montgomery Clift
mister fairman . . . . if you do read these comments, can you try to get some clarification on why ken corday said chandler and freddie would be in and out and why they were in the preview when they have heard nothing? assuming it takes more than a week to produce an issue of soap opera digest, he made that statement before chandler and freddie said they had not heard anything.
while you are at it, maybe you can finally answer the question as to why they were let go (and the only two let go at this point :| :|)?? it certainly cannot be because of budget given that everyone and their mother (literally, in will's case) is coming back.

I won’t sugarcoat. I think Guy had zero talent and zero charisma and ruined WilSon during his time on the show. It’s a shame how things went down back then where Chandler was robbed of those moments that he had worked so hard for. I can’t believe Days made such a cruel decision and think fans would be fine with it. They were like oh it doesn’t matter who plays Will and Sonny, it’s still Will and Sonny. No it’s not. The actors always matter. Those are the people we fell in love with and made us love this story. It boggles my mind what the show was thinking when Chandler would’ve done the the wedding and wanted to do it. They just didn’t communicate with him like they should have. Unreal.
this so so much. i was not watching then, but from what i have learned, it seems like they deprived chandler from those scenes out of spite. i bet everyone could have worked it out so that he could do those scenes if they really wanted to, and what a shitty way to treat fans. hell it makes me furious and i just recently learned about it. i actually really wish michael would ask the people who made those decisions about it, but i know that will never happen.
i am also so nervous that if will goes back, guy wilson will be in the role. i do not think chandler is as willing to commute as freddie is, especially since he is entering the corporate world. and apparently guy wilson posted something a few months ago, but people figured he was just trolling. oh i will be so upset if i am right!!
@@claddagh1826 GW has other acting work he's doing right now and yes he was trolling but i also think people misunderstood like they always do. I don't think Days is interested in him anyway. Will and Sonny will likely be brought back as just a visit in the immediate future, not in a long term storyline. Chandler has said he would go back so that door is not closed. But like I said, only a visit seems possible in the immediate future so commuting for that wouldn't be hard. Will and Sonny will not be back full-time anytime soon. Chandler and Freddie have also talked about creating their own project together on the east coast so that could also happen in the future. Both seem busy right now though since they are moving to east coast.
You do realize it was Chandler who left? He has said it in multiple interviews it was his decision to leave the first time. I understand where you are coming from but don't blame NBC for that
Raymond Smith please go away. It was not as simple as that. He wanted to go back to school but he was still undecided on what he was going to do. The show then made the decision to fire him months before his contract ended. They didn’t give him an opportunity to communicate with them and let them know he would stay longer. They just told him one random day that it was his last day. He was so hurt. He wanted to do the wedding but he wasn’t given the chance.

The brain tumor story gave us the wedding played by Chandler and Freddie whereas the first wedding was with Guy Wilson....so we got to see an intimate wedding, although we did get to see Chandler and Freddie do their first wedding in the flashbacks.

I'm one of those gay fans and they are the only reason to watch. Zero interest in DOOL now. I won't watch the show again unless they return. I'm not mad about it or anything, I'm just not interested in the show now.
Its total crap they were written off ! These guys are awesome actors, and now your bringing these no talent actors into the show. Days won't last without all these actors who are so much a part of Salem ! Shame on the writers ! Big mistake!🤔🤔
