As always, a huge kudos to you! Thanks a billion for sharing these videos. I appreciate all the hard work you put into editing, cleaning and remastering these from VHS. There is an evident quality improvement in this game. (I know sometimes the quality is unrepairable.) I love your descriptions, commentary and timestamps! This is my favorite basketball channel. Other channels only have MJs highlights, but they ruin the game by excluding the footage of the opposing team. The way you edit, we get a proper experience of the action, and FEEL the intensity of the rivalries.
I'd love to see any rare games of Dominique Wilkins and Hawks battling other juggernauts? Like Wilkins vs Bird, or Wilkins vs Barkley. Whatever rare 80's games you have in your priceless VHS archive, we would be overjoyed if you could edit and share them? (No rush, as I know it takes time to edit.) Be so grateful if you could post some Nique games. (Apparently, his career stats say he had many 40 and 50+ games in the 80s...that we have never seen).
1986-1989 was when Jordan was at his athletic prime. I really wish he did NOT do so much body building. It made him heavier, and he gradually lost his hops. You can see his vertical leap and speed decreasing each year after 1989 when he began bodybuilding with personal trainer. By 1990 he wasn't soaring much, then 1991 he reserved his dunking. Then by 1992 he had completely changed. He was NOT the same. (It wasn't due to age either, MJ was still young enough to be in prime athleticism, until age 33.) Prime athleticism can remain from age 20-32, with pro athletes. MJ was still leaping and hanging, but his fully fledged flying had drastically diminished. Come Fly With Me showcased his super "AIR" Jordan era, then afterwards he still did facials, like the ones on Ewing and Alonzo, but he wasn't soaring from long distances, and doing ridiculous high flying dunks in traffic. I have documented evidence that Jordan had a 48" vertical leap in north Carolina days. (From a published book on sports in North Carolina. If you want a photocopy pic of the book page just ask me.) Surely, his leaping ability grew from 1982-1988 when he did the greatest free-throw dunk! IN his rookie year, his free-throw dunk was stretched forward, and barely making it over the front of the rim. But in 1988, he was clearly jumping much higher and further! Estimate that Jordan had a 50" vertical in his athletic prime, during 1987-1989. In this video, Jo-Jo English and his team mates in BLUE, were TRASH TALKING to MJ! Saying that he CANNOT dunk as well as Jo Jo! Jordan took it PERSONALLY! Although MJ was attending as a judge in the dunk contest, he entered to COMPETE against the young punk! Crowd cheers proved MJ was and is SUPERIOR! JO-JO was still awarded the title, but MJ was the overall winner between the two, in their EXTRA DUNK CONTEST, that was after the main contest that Jo Jo won. th-cam.com/video/3jI_Lst7yjo/w-d-xo.html
This guy is the best NBA GAME EDITOR. Its a shame that 80's didn't have HD video. But this guy does a great job of repairing the old VHS and improving the quality, resolution and dimensions. HIs timestamps, and thoroughly informative description of every game, show us that this is a heartfelt project of passion. Something that is lacking in other NBA videos and channels.
As someone who grew up a Bulls fan this game was what I would label as the beginning of the Bulls vs Pistons rivalry. From 1988 to 1992 this rivalry was intense….but this is the beginning.
87 was when Jordan was at his prime athleticism. I really wish he did NOT do so much body building. It made him heavier, and he gradually lost his hops. You can see the vertical leap and speed decreasing each year after 1989 when he began bodybuilding. The LAST TIME Jordan was seen on video doing his SIGNATURE FOUL LINE dunk, was in this 1989 video. th-cam.com/video/rjzuuLqnSfw/w-d-xo.html
It was a completely different game back then, and in my opinion it was much harder to score back then than the current day NBA. The fact that MJ could do what he did in this kind of game is one of many reasons why no one will ever come close to his level, ever.
Listen to Dick Motta @ 27:00 talk about his strategy to lay low during brawls. Dude talked about it like it was a nightly occurrence (LMAO). And shoutout to Doug Collins for throwing himself into that scrum. Savage. BTW, you saw Oakley immediately come to Mike's defense after Mahorn's foul. There's a reason the Pistons' physical abuse of Mike really escalated after he got traded to the Knicks. One more note: that crowd is electric. That kind of crowd can only be produced by a hated rivalry game. There are no more rivalries in today's game. Yet another reason why today's product is TRASH!
To be fair to Mahorn,Jordan threw down Dumars first (which as an enforcer he couldn't let that go unpunished),Oakley put his hand up when Mahorn balled his fist, and then Pippen,Oakley, and possibly Phil Jackson cheap shotted Mahorn.Tough guys should fight other tough guys face up.
Absolutely agree with what you said. Very well said, "that crowd is electric. That kind of crowd can only be produced by a hated rivalry game. There are no more rivalries in today's game. Yet another reason why today's product is TRASH!" * Now players are taking STEROIDS in todays NBA, and have artificial Schwarzenegger bodies. But they are mentally weak. LOAD MANAGEMENT was born out of timidity and greed. There were NOT that many serious career ending injuries in the tough 80's and 90's, so the whole issue of softening the game and twisting the rules has no grounds to stand on. The NBA has become more unpopular than ever before, but technology makes it more accessible than ever before. If that doesn't show us that the WEAK RULES are RUINING the game, then people are blindly in denial. *The new commissioner is much to blame. Adam Stern was a great commissioner who helped make NBA better, the new guy has made it much worse.
The good old days. I was 17 years old growing up on the Southside of Chicago. These youngins today don't have a clue what real sports and competition is.
Doug Collins is a legend! I love Phil jackson, but Doug is close to my heart, because he truly cared enough to get involved in DEFENDING his players from brawls! Doug was a very YOUNG coach, full of enthusiasm, energy and vitality. He NEVER shouted at players, but encouraged them, hugged them, and developed relationships with them. (Phil developed close relationships too.) Chuck Daily is another brilliant coach. I love that guy. May he R.I.P. A true classy gentleman, with a hardnosed approach to coaching his team into defensive physicality. Daily is a genius! * Even today's coaches are NOT as great, or entertaining as the 80's and 90's coaches! It seems like everything these days is watered down! (Steve Kerr does a great job, but generally the coaches these days seem odd.)
Real fights (with fists) took place in the 1970's NBA. The 80's and 90's were mostly threatening faces mixed up with half-hearted wrestling, punches thrown in the air, heads tilted as far back as possible. Although they were very frequent of course.
Everybody worked so much harder back then, that's what you notice watching these old games. Fighting for rebounds, chasing people around the floor. A lot more exciting.
Notice how players aren't doing any ridiculous celebrations after every play and you rarely see someone shoot a 3 pointer. Today these clowns are celebrating scores then getting beat the next play. Absolute joke NBA today compared to this styl e play
Michael cleared out Dumars (took him to the ground) and Mahorn retaliated. Oakley jumped over Michael to get to Mahorn. Doug Collins tried to get Mahorn in a headlock and got thrown down. It comes down to another reason why MJ is the goat!
The Bulls should have kept Oakley there's no way he would have let the Pistons get away with all those roughhouse tactics they used on Jordan and most of the team
This game is SPECTACULAR! The PISTONS were GREAT! @ 17:30 Dennis Rodman comes in off the bench, and makes an IMMEDIATE IMPACT! Blocking the shit out of Oakley's wide open dunk!

Those two points would be one of the good little summaries of the career of the greatest player ever in team sports.
