we used to row boats backwards like that, it's common here, it's technical reason, you can switch the oar easily left to right and vice versa because of the narrow area you sit. we all know we can't just paddle on one side of a boat unless you want to go in circles.

If you're looking for some food unique to Sabah, look for Tuaran Mee... it's fried noodles that you can hardly find outside of Sabah. And they are yummy... to me anyway. LOL... Also KK is famous for super fresh seafood noodles. If you Google for fresh seafood noodles, Kota Kinabalu, you will get a list of places well known for them.

@MattReardonVlogs 10k population is filipino refugees from mindanao. Still our gov never kick them back. 3rd generation now. Same story of rohinyas in peninsula. Already 200k. Dangerous for national security of malaysia and of course they compete for jobs.

@Matt Reardon bro the top 10 in this world is sipadan. If you hv the budget next time just do these 4 things in sabah as a bucket list.
      1. Climb mount kinabalu
      2. Dive at sipadan
      3. Sepilok orangutans
      4. Kinabatangan river cruise. Look for the big 5 : crocodiles, hornbills, proboscis monkeys, elephants, orangutans. If you are lucky at night, you can see tarsiers too.
If you have a bigger budget visit the amazing rainforest of borneo at
      1) imbak
      2) maliau basin
      3) danum valley.

@@MattReardonVlogs Yes, like in peninsular, most beautiful tropical islands is on the east side, like islands near Semporna. Kota Kinabalu is more well known for its beautiful mountain Kinabalu ⛰, Kundasang etc

It's also about what is more accessible. There are by far more flights and transportation connecting the peninsula than there are Borneo. When locals and foreigners visit the states of Borneo more in the future, it will become more known for traveling and tourism. Same goes for Sumatra and Sulawesi.
