I've done my will up thru a site online about 10 years ago, and i've had no piece of mind about it. I'm going to go to a lawyer now and do up a will properly. We can cheap out on other things, but a will shouldn't be one of them. Both my parents passed away at the beginning of the year. They each had a lawyer drawn up will, and already by the end of next month, maybe sooner, their estate will all be settled.
Thanks for the great information. I am from BC and wanted to know: do we need to register the will with the government? If it is optional, what is the benefit of registering? and how much does it costs? Thanks
I’m interested in doing the holographic will, can you advise if it is best to be witnessed by 2 independent people, or is it strictly the person who wrote it? Thank you and note that I live common-law in Alberta.
Have no will in our 70s my husband has has stage 4 cancer. Have only daughter who will get everything. We have no debits have a house in both names. Bank and pensions we are both beneficiary. Which is the best will for us? My daughter is added on our cheques and savings account.
Doesn’t a will equal probate equals 10 to 20% of your inheritance and legacy wealth transfer? I want the traditional family lawyers, Arbiter or Interdiction, triple title registration in April please.
Probate is either a percentage or a flat fee depending on which province you reside in. However, I do not know of any province where it is that high....see more information here: www.taxtips.ca/willsandestates/probate-fees-by-province-territory.htm

Philips if the will is signed by the wtnesses and not the person is it valid?
No. It must be signed by the testator as well as the witnesses. Ideally an affidavit of execution is completed as well.
