Okay I got to that elbert ct junction earlier this season there wasn’t a trace of foot traffic past about 15 feet up the trail. I assumed everyone was tackling Elbert from a different route. Did u walk up half moon to get there? I called it there. Good for u for walking to the south trail.
So I didn’t make it to the south trail. I followed the CT for another 1-2 miles uphill and found ski tracks that led up a steep unknown route that I took a chance on. Eventually it got me above tree line and connected with the North ridge route, which I just went straight up the ridge, finding the trail sometimes and hit the summit late in the day. I’ve solo climbed a lot of mountains without skis in the winter, just have to improvise and experience triumphs the loss of trail. 🤙🏽
out of curiosity, how many miles did your 4runner have when you bought it? also did you always have intentions of traveling by yourself, or how did you find yourself wanting to do it? seriously inspired by your content thank you!
Hey Pooch, lots of great questions, do my best to answer. Mileage- I’d have to gander at the title but I think 250-260k, currently sits around 337k after 5 years. Traveling alone, yes and no, I’ve spent years doing solo adventures and I got out of a relationship late last year and decided to follow some dreams. I’ve always climbed mountains, and explored in my 4runner, just took it to the extreme. I originally had planned to hike the PCT and that dream got wiped out, so I kept building my 4runner for long distance travel for 1-2 people. The 1 person set up was only completed days to weeks before this trip, but it works. I appreciate the kind words, it may take years of hard work, but you’d rather try and fail, then never try at all at whatever you aspire towards in life. 🤙🏽
What was the exact date of the video when you climbed? I'm supposed to make my way out there on the 20th of this month and trying to gauge if the weather conditions will be somewhat similar to the ones in your video
I put the date on the lower corner of the screen at the beginning of the video, I believe it was March 19th, unless they’ve had snow you should see the same conditions but I’m unsure, there was 3-5 foot of snow in some places, going to take a while for that to melt. But if you follow my tracks you’ll eventually get there.
