My girlfriend bought us tickets to see this game and it was my first ever Canucks game and man what an experience it was. 5 goals in the 1st period, 3 Rows from ice level, 3 seats away from the Canucks bench. 2 sections away from the great one Wayne Gretzky in the building and what looked like Chad Kroeger sitting next to him. Prior to the game we got to meet Conor Garland and Rick Tocchet at the Canucks Team Store. What a first game! ❤️ I love my girlfriend and this is the best gift I have ever received. ❤️

Canucks did not play very well towards the end. Not the best win but lessons learnt. Road trip here we go!

What a way for the Canucks to blast into the new year!
They obliterated the Senators big time in the first period, five in one, once in a lifetime! The second and third periods, weren’t much of the effort. I was hoping for Canucks to finish the game with at least 7 to 10 goals.
Other than that, Canucks are cooking and are fighting for the future of hopes in winning the Stanley Cup!

Relieved and pleased Canucks opened up and scored 5 quickfire goals. Cannot afford to ease up when you have a big lead. We've seen countless times this season multi-goal leads wiped off the face of the earth. Even when Canucks were 5-1 up, I had my doubts. Need to do better.
Will spare a thought for Joonas Korpisalo. That was a BRUTAL way to end your own team's chances of making a comeback with a goal like that to give away.
Canucks are 21-0-0 when leading going into the third period, they are one of the best teams if not the best team at keeping a lead!

Well hockey would be pretty boring if every 2 goal lead meant "game over." Possibly that's why the NHL wanted to bring scoring back?
This years team is way too good to lose a five goal lead game.
Attention to detail is very important in hockey. The sens' first goal was a great example of a bad dump in and a subsequent poor shift change because of it. You cannot half-ass the dump ins!

Sens fan here. Game against Seattle is vital now to save the season and no hate for the Canucks. Just beat the Leafs, Tampa, Habs, ect lol.

Lots of puck luck for sure, but the Canucks are just that team. Reminds me of the Stanley Cup Winning Blues. They just got a goal whenever they needed one.

This game had no reason to be this close. You go from a perfect first period to playing a sloppy 40 minutes of hockey. With Soucy having a good chance of returning into the lineup this road trip, that'll definitely help the team a lot.
yea when they have to take the foot off the gas i think they struggle maintaining control of a game, the team doesn't know what to do when they arent blasting pucks in the back of the net
Exactly. They don't have a proper top 15 NHL top 4 D Core. Right now we're closer to top 19th or 20th with Soucy out of the lineup.
Being top 15 league wide in defensemen means Demko will look better, and probably post 1 or 2 more shutouts.

A great dominating win for the Canucks! But I like the Senators also, so I'm a bit sad at the same time. Pretty incredible how the Canucks had a 5-0 lead in the first period which forced the Sens to have a goalie change!

My god, neither team played very well tonight. The Canucks were sloppy as hell in their own end, Boeser, Kuzmenko, and Hughes were all silent, and the Sens were so bad in the first period they gave themselves an impossible mountain to climb and lost the game after 20 minutes.
But the first period was hilarious so I’ll give the Canucks a passing grade.

Peteys first goal was amazing sniped then had the presence of mind to wrap around and get his stick blade on the others side. Brilliant. Suter lob goal was intentional imo, couldnt get a good shot off so lob it trying to bounce it. players practice those.

looked like the best team in the league in the 1st period. then looked like the old canucks in the 2nd and 3rd. they won't get away with that against a good team. as a fan, it took the shine off the win.
Three pucks off of Ottawa defensemen and into the net for Vancouver Canuck goals in the first period. Not a good start to the hockey game for the Senators, but a glorious one for the Canucks. The sixth goal by the Canucks was either a flukey goal or the Ottawa goaltender misplayed the puck.

If Canucks did not open the 1st period the way they did, Ottawa definitely took the game overall.
If the Canaucks didn't open up the first period the way they did they would have kept their foot on the gas. These aren't the leafs where they have to worry about blowing a 5 goal lead.
I get the impression Tocchet instructed them to hold the fort once they had built up their 5-1 lead. They attacked way less than they did in the first period. That's fair enough, if it assures you of victory, but in other circumstances, it'd make you look a right tool if it doesn't pay off.
Teams frequently play much different when they have a 5 goal lead, so no.

Ottawa was terrible in their own end. Continually giving the puck away when under pressure but, they had some very unlucky bounces against them. Ottawa just needs to stay the course. Keep your draft picks and don’t sign any big free agents. Let the young core play and grow and they will be fine. Just need time.

This game is why I hate the "let up culture" in sports. Keep the foot on the gas and if the other team can't hang then I guess they lost by a lot. Never let up and let the other team back into the game.

Состав у них один из лучших в лиге, но системной и стабильной игры как не было, так и нет. Им нужен опытный тренер, который мог бы выстроить эффективную систему игры, как это сделал Торторелла с куда менее сильным составом в Филадельфии. Я бы на месте офиса Оттавы пригласил Дж.Кенневила, который уже 2 года сидит без работы.

@@user-zf7zm9hv3m Сан Хосе, Анахайм и Чикаго в процессе перестройки, уходят ветераны, приходит молодежь. На протяжении многих сезонов Аризона была просто ужасна, а в этом в зоне плей-офф. С Оттавой другая ситуация, их состав достаточно опытен, что бы играть лучше, но из года в год это одно и тоже.

Right, good teams risk injuries early in the regular season to make sure they can win every game 15-0, that usually sets them up well for the playoffs, nobody ever lets off the gas and just tries to lessen chances and win the game. Good point!
