David Deacon Jones (December 9, 1938 and passed away on June 3, 2013) was an American football defensive end who had a 14-season career in the NFL, playing for the Los Angeles Rams, San Diego Chargers, and Washington Redskins. He was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1980. Jones was known for his ability to sack quarterbacks, a term he coined himself. Nicknamed "the Secretary of Defense," he is regarded as one of the greatest defensive players in history. The Los Angeles Times named him the "most valuable Ram of all time," and former Rams head coach George Allen referred to him as the "greatest defensive end of modern football."
