Deacon said he was the one that killed Monday whipped Tuesday and put Wednesday in the hospital, called up Thursday to tell Friday don't bury Saturday on Sunday. Stuck his fingers in the ground and turn whole world around. He reminds me of Dolemite with his strong personality.

Deacon Jones once wrote a poem: "Roses are red
      and Violets are blue
      If you got any sense
You'd keep Butkus away from you"

If I'm starting a Football Team, I'm taking those two Bears and David Deacon Jones is My Starting Left DE. This Dude could've played in Any Era. Paul Warfield, another Old School Player, would start at WR. And, of course, Johnny Unitas at QB. If Johnny U played today, He'd OWN the Record Book.

A very little known fact: Deacon would pick up lunch money by betting running backs drafted by the Rams on who was fastest in a sprint. At 6'-5" and 270lbs., he didn't seem like much of a threat to win. He never lost until the Rams drafted Willie Ellison who had been a track star in college.

      From Wikipedia
In 1967, Jones had 21½ sacks in only 14 games, which (if official) would stand as the single-season record. (The term "sack" had not yet been coined at the time, and official sack statistics were not recorded by the NFL until 1982.) Then in 1968, Jones tallied 22 sacks in 14 games, also more than the current NFL record.
      Unofficial annual sack totals
      Year Sacks Team
      1961 8 Los Angeles Rams
      1962 12 Los Angeles Rams
      1963 5½ Los Angeles Rams
      1964 22 Los Angeles Rams
      1965 19 Los Angeles Rams
      1966 18 Los Angeles Rams
      1967 21½ Los Angeles Rams
      1968 22 Los Angeles Rams
      1969 15 Los Angeles Rams
      1970 12 Los Angeles Rams
      1971 4½ Los Angeles Rams
      1972 6 San Diego Chargers

Lawrence Taylor is Always being compared to Dick Butkus. Why, I do not know. Taylor played OLB, or Edge Rusher, in a 3/4 Defense. His main job was to Rush the QB. Butkus was a MLB in a Traditional 4/3 Defense, with way more responsibilities than an Edge Rusher. A better comparison to Lawrence Taylor would be Deacon Jones, IMO.
