@@CoachChijo my daughter has been practicing her overhand the way you taught. I’m constantly telling her to keep her hand up not dropping her elbow and to hit bottom of the ball (she just turned 11) and she can now do a modified jump float.

For many of my younger players I have them look back at their hitting elbow to confirm it's at least as high at their eyes. Then they start the serving motion.

I like the explanation with regards to what's happening with her upper body. One question... with her being right-handed, is there a specific reason she has her right leg forward instead of her opposite leg when she's in the wall?

This is a common debate I hear. It was presented to me by a sports performance coach to increase the "twist" to the right by having the right knee up. Then when the player rotates forward she can rotate her right hip forward fully after the swing. Many people have told me this is backwards but if we put the left knee up to allow for the full "Open" and twist to the right, then when the player rotates forward she can't fully rotate her right hip forward. Pros and cons. Currently we now teach this technique while standing so the player can start with the left lead foot in front to open and then rotates the hip forward fully like a normal hitting motion. Thanks for leaving your comment and thanks for watching!

when you hit the top of the ball and hit it straight down, is it for learning the snap? I'm short and I barely reach the net so should I be practicing hitting that way? Great video!

Initially hitting the top of the ball is to learn the snap, correct. But even if you less height or less jump you can still snap by making first contact more on the side of the ball and then finishing with a snap to get the top spin on the ball. Top spin on the ball will make the ball drop faster on the other side of the net.
