    Thanks for this and all your content. My 14 year old son took up volleyball a year ago and it’s hooked him in and enthused him where no other sport has come close. He’s coached well at his club (all voluntary) and been invited to the National Volleyball centre a couple of times too, so progressing fast. But here in the UK volleyball is very niche and I knew very very little. Your coaching videos are so clear and make perfect sense. I’ve coached cricket and can see where certain skill principles can transfer between sports, but the clouds of the volleyball specifics are now clearing ! Useful for both of us here, but personally it’s helping me get talking volleyball with the coaches and how I can help at home. A big “cheers” from the UK. I’m being hooked in as a fan of the sport while loving seeing my son’s passion and enjoyment.

      That is an audible we use for serve receive. I teach my passers to call out either short (if short serve), Mine (if it is close) and then deep (if it's a deep serve). I got this technique from the previous Stanford coach at a clinic.

    I like the explanation with regards to what's happening with her upper body. One question... with her being right-handed, is there a specific reason she has her right leg forward instead of her opposite leg when she's in the wall?

    • @CoachChijo
      @CoachChijo 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      This is a common debate I hear. It was presented to me by a sports performance coach to increase the "twist" to the right by having the right knee up. Then when the player rotates forward she can rotate her right hip forward fully after the swing. Many people have told me this is backwards but if we put the left knee up to allow for the full "Open" and twist to the right, then when the player rotates forward she can't fully rotate her right hip forward. Pros and cons. Currently we now teach this technique while standing so the player can start with the left lead foot in front to open and then rotates the hip forward fully like a normal hitting motion. Thanks for leaving your comment and thanks for watching!

    • @CoachChijo
      @CoachChijo หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes we teach hitters to launch their last two steps when the set is roughly at the peak. High set, med set, low set… wait until the peak. If the set is lower then the hitter will have to launch very fast hence the quick attack. Hope that makes sense. Thanks so much for watching!

    Very interesting to see a 2 step Right Left and not the “traditional”3 step Left Right Left.

    • @CoachChijo
      @CoachChijo หลายเดือนก่อน

      The 2 steps you see are the same last two steps you mention in your “traditional” approach. I isolate just the last two steps when teaching the timing. We teach that the last two steps are the most critical for the timing. The athlete in the video has already put her third to last “Left” step down. In my opinion hitters are free to have a 3-step, 4-step or however-many-step approach. They can have 8 steps if they want. But the most critical and same across the board are the last two steps. Those are the ones we are practicing in this video. Hope that make sense. Thanks for watching!

      @IonAnderAyerza หลายเดือนก่อน

      the same as the system in the video where you won the championship

    • @CoachChijo
      @CoachChijo หลายเดือนก่อน

      A 5-1 is fairly advanced as you must have a good setter who can take the pressure and also play back row defense. I determine the offensive system I will use for any given team based on the players I have each season. If the team has players with 2 good setters then maybe a two setter system. If I don’t have one really good setter who can also play defense then I may run a 4-2. I find the appropriate system for the players I have. The system can also change and evolve over the course of a season as player skills develop. Sometimes I use a system that is custom designed just for a particular team. It’s maybe not a system that other people are familiar with. I’ve often used a triangle or 3-setter system.

    • @CoachChijo
      @CoachChijo หลายเดือนก่อน

      When coaching club volleyball we typically rely on the minimum space behind the end line per USA Volleyball rules which is 6 feet. It’s not much room so we need to always teach our players to have a compact “approach” for serving. With younger players we tend to have more foot fault issues. When I coached high school I didn’t have to worry so much about that because we have a lot more space to work with.

      Yes that’s correct. That’s what I teach my younger players because when they get too aggressive with their approach or serving motion the serving control is not as good. @@CoachChijo Yes, I coach 6th, 7th and 8th middle school in Kentucky. Years back, I was coaching basketball and the school was desperate to find a volleyball coach. I went in not knowing too much outside of my daughter’s teams she played on. But over the years I’ve learned a lot and have my teams playing well and winning league championships. But where I lack as a coach is some of these fine tuning techniques. So I’m constantly trying to learn more. So, I appreciate your videos.

      Great to hear you're coaching. We need all the positive coaches in this world helping kids. I have also coached basketball and soccer and can say that in general coaching is coaching. Once you understand how to teach in progressions it's a matter of learning the specific sport's technique and mechanics. Keep it up!
