    unless mentioned previously.....and for future reference....use blue tape over nice veneers when cutting (as per your cupboard door). The tape will generally stop splintering. draw your cut line on the tape, and get after it! Fun video! Summer in the Med...what about winter? trying to head Florida/Azores late May. Thanks Andrew

      Good pointer.
      We are leaving here early June so we might still be here when you arrive!
      It would be great to meet up :)

    Sometimes when cutting through any sort of plywood, finish wood, vinyl, etc...there will be splintering going on. To cut down on that blue tape along your cutting path. Cut through the tape and it usually won't splinter. I have used the titebond product on glue down wood flooring.

    • @RiggingDoctor
      @RiggingDoctor  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      When I cut from the inside, I got some splintering. I switched to the outside and it kept it from happening.
      The blue tape idea sounds great, I’ll be sure to use it next time I make a finishing cut.

    The shelves in the cabinet should be ell shape with a retaining cleat about 3" high on the inside edges of the ell so the items can't fall off the shelf. That way you have access to the whole area from the doorway and can pretty much fill the cavity without the stuff falling in the bilge area where the mason jars are stowed. The countertop is going to look nice. Tightbond 3 is great stuff.

      We ended up doing just that with the L

    Paint in white all areas close to bilge, to make it easy to find water leaks.

    you could also use a carpenters square on your verticals and then you would have the correct horizontal lines for your opening.

    • @RiggingDoctor
      @RiggingDoctor  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s assuming the verticals are vertical! (Nothing is straight!!! )

    Glad to see you are off the crutches, that must have been a trip (pun intended) moving about on those things. When I was much younger I was in the Army, I had some foot trouble and was given crutches, I actually tried to go down stairs with them. I don't recommend this exercise, it doesn't end well.

  • @jackpatteeuw9244

    Glad to see you have ditched the crutches, but take it easy on how far you are walking. I had a similar, but worse (avulsion fracture of the ankle). 6 months later, X-rays showed it was still not completely healed.

    Initially I thought you said END grain blocks and I thought you were nuts, although it would have been fun to watch you clamp all that up :-) Love the Sunday morning "coffee with the Rigging Doctor" routine.

    • @RiggingDoctor
      @RiggingDoctor  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The original plan was END grain, and then for sanity reasons we switched to EDGE grain :)

    Great progress in the galley. M, are the colors you use in painting like your signature colors or how did you choose them? Just curious. Always like watching you paint. H, nice wood working skills.
    Continue having fun.
    👍🙏❤️

      So that those planks didn't get glued together. They were for opposite sides of the sink

    Instead of one shelf going one way, and the next shelf going the other way, why not make both 'L' shaped, with the open part closest to the locker door? You'd get more usable shelf space, for the same ease of access.

    • @RiggingDoctor
      @RiggingDoctor  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      We wanted to make sure to have space for tall pots 😊

    Or, once you had a vertical reference, you could just have used a framing square.

    • @RiggingDoctor
      @RiggingDoctor  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, but I don’t have a square with me.
      Also didn’t have chisels or a rabbet plane.

      Titebond green is my go to wood glue. I researched it years ago when I made a cutting board. Didn't say if it is food grade or not 11 years later im still alive so maybe it is? I made some hatch covers on my boat last summer and used gorilla glue. Bad idea they fell apart.

    • @RiggingDoctor
      @RiggingDoctor  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was researching wood glues about 3 years ago. I was looking for Recinol (sp?) (it has purple glue lines) but it is too toxic to be sold in the states.
      Titebond 3 was the next best thing and it has been amazing!
      I can’t even remember what category of wood glue it fell into, but it was the class I was looking for and is now my go-to.
