Many folks don't realize that you can swap a Huey and cobra rotor head,Not the twin engine model seen here but the single engine cobra, thats right a Huey with a cobra head,,my unit did it all the time back in the day. Nice gunships the Marines Cobra 2 is way better.
@alaskanbas6507 correct not the tail rotor,,now drive shaft from section 2 and 3 with drives shaft couplings were also the same, and the transmission oil cooler with a minor component change. Now, when we swap the rotor head, the main rotor shaft from the Huey was not interchangeable due to the difference on the upper spline teeth they only math the component for the stabilizer bar for the Huey however the inner spline teeth to the transmission where exactly the same. So yes, we could swap heads, but the main drives shaft also needed to be replaced but in an emergency you can keep the huey shaft in place and it would fly but the TI would not be happy about it,,, I just had an amazing flashback,,thanks for asking about the tailrotor,,🫡

I'm 99% sure that's me. I have very vague memory of this.
I miss that sound
Traildog Adventures as do I.
Surprised it didn’t have the sideways exhaust. How many AH-1 Whiskeys didn’t have the sideways exhaust?
The video was taken in 2005. The sideways exhaust modification didn't come until a few years later.
Ohhh gotcha. Yea from what I’ve seen around ‘08ish. Thanks for your service!

But only the rotor head, right, not the rotor blades?

@@Militaryman64 Very interesting, thanks for sharing this! Excuse my short answer, but I don't have much to say, I just find it really cool.
What are they near the end of the stub wing don't look like tow missiles.?
Jason Would they’re hellfire missiles but they’re inert...
Trevor Henderson those were live hellfire missiles. You can tell they’re live because of the yellow bands. The other side had live TOW missiles.
Heven Renteria correct! I just looked it up. Blue is completely inert, yellow is live

Both pilots and the ground crew seemed to be taking their own time in putting on the helmets and prepping the aircraft. Doesn’t look like a scramble.
