It would take a Jack shaft and major gear reduction to run your own differential the way your choosing is a better choice your not gonna be locked into any particular gear range but rear wheel drive with the pt trans axle would be pretty damn awesome

Personally I’d try to make the gxr engine fit in the engine bay and try to make an adapter to the current transaxle. The only issue is that if you use the transmission that’s already in the car the gearing might not match it’s new engine. But route 2, if the engine doesn’t fit completely gut the engine bay and delete the back seats. Put the engine right where the back seats were and make it rear wheel drive. Can’t wait to see what goes on with this project!

Adapter if it was me. I like rear wheel drive, but engine in the front still.
