    I dont know why it took over an hour to finally find a video that shows an actual free app instead of "Free" for x amount of days but thank you for some how being the only person to understand the definition of free

    This is, by far, the best review on software I have ever found in internet (not only in regards to screenwriting). Period. I'm amazed, and quickly saved by you, really. My paid license expired a couple of months ago, and now I will have to use free software to write (at least the next 6 months). Yours is the GOAT, the MVP of tutorials. Instant subscription.

    after watching 10s of videos on free software finally a guy who knows what free means. so many softwares exclusive to just 3 projects or some other gimmick which the youtubers just don't mention at all.

      Appreciate the comment! I was honestly surprised to find the same thing when I first started looking into this topic. It was a challenge just to find the actual free software to review because everyone was pushing apps with trials and limited versions. Luckily, there's still some great stuff out there that is truly free.

    • @allenwroteon
      @allenwroteon  ปีที่แล้ว

      Trelby's honestly still great! It does everything a screenwriting program needs to and is extremely lightweight. Boots fast, runs smooth, and almost never has an issue.

      @@jamesA18 You don't need to worry about the PDF viewer you have. You convert from within Trelby. For the Windows version, just go to File > Export and then choose PDF from the "Save as type:" drop-down menu.

    I’m still currently on celtx since that’s what I first used as a free software about 10 years ago. Only wrote for personal/non-professional projects so never saw the need to change. Writersolo sounds great though, looks much simpler and exactly what I need.

    • @allenwroteon
      @allenwroteon  ปีที่แล้ว

      Are you still using the free desktop version of Celtx? I used that when I first started screenwriting a long time ago, but they seem to have moved to subscription models only. I'm curious to hear if the old free apps still work.

    This is the single most useful screenwriting software review I've found so far. I can now confidently say that I THINK I know where to go now. Thank you!
    The one other one that I have seen, that I'm wondering your thoughts on, is Causality. It's very structure-focused, and I'm wondering if you had any thoughts on it?

    • @allenwroteon
      @allenwroteon  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Looking into Causality, I immediately thought the features made a lot more sense for teams like animation studios, and looking at the companies that use it bears that out. In my opinion, for an individual writer, a lot of the features feels like they would be more distracting than helpful. But that doesn't mean it wouldn't work for other writers with different processes. Unfortunately, it's not truly free. There is a free version, but it has a page limit. But that should be enough to give it a shot and see if it fits your writing/outlining style.

    I've used a couple of them and I eventually just sticked with Story Architect so much that recently purchased the pro version, which is actually pretty awersome... though kit scenarist was great, I feel that Story Architect was a step forward, even if you have to pay now for the usual old/new features

    • @allenwroteon
      @allenwroteon  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glad you are digging it! What do you like about StArc over Scenarist? I thought StArc was pretty dang good, but just didn't personally need any of the features I found over Scenarist, so I'm curious to hear how others are using it.

    • @danxp1090
      @danxp1090 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@allenwroteon I do find it less clunky and easier to use,. It is very simple to work with different versions or using the same file to create other projects within and in general I think the interface makes it easier to work, with or without paying for a better-more-complete version. And it is constantly updating and getting better

    I used FD but I’m a big believer in structure and outlining and I think FD still struggles with this, though it’s gotten better over the years. But I like what I saw in Scrite, I’m gonna give that a shot. Appreciate you 🤜🏾 oh! And character profiles, something else FD is weak in.

      This was by far the most interesting and innovative app I tested. If they could just fix the small issues I ran into, I think it could be one of the best programs out there for writer who want to do everything from research and outlining to writing their final draft all in one place (even with a future subscription fee).
      Honestly, if they just let you create a new scene by typing "EXT." or "INT.", I could live with most of the other stuff (though I know there is already a keyboard shortcut I'd probably get used to after a while).

    Hello brother.. can u suggest me a better visual story board software.. im using writerssolo im happy with it .. but i need a better for for storyboards

    • @allenwroteon
      @allenwroteon  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Do you mean story outlining, or actual storyboarding? If you meant storyboarding, OpenToonz was recommended to me when I took an animation and storyboarding course last year. It's free and based on the software that Studio Ghibli uses (nearly every animation studio has their own internal software for storyboarding).
      If you meant outlining, KIT Scenarist has decent tools and I thought Scrite did great stuff (though I believe they are going to start charging soon).
