Hello, double breasted cardigans I think were popular in the 1980s. I use to work in a vintage shop and my double breasted cardigan is from that era (or appears to be if I've dated the fashion label properly). There were several in the store I worked in and I thought it was a shame not many people bought them because they make you look elegant but playful. So if you're wondering about patterns, it may be worth browsing some of the vintage pattern databases. Regarding the construction of a commercial felted cardigan, what I've seen is that they're usually made from pre-felted wool fabric, so the wool is felted into fabric for cutting. I've never come across any vintage felted knitwear - i.e. knit then felted, unless they're accessories. There's quite a difference in the fabric in terms of thickness with what I've experienced. Hopefully someone else will have more knowledge than me to help as well.

Your double breasted cardigan inspiration reminded me of a pattern I knit last spring called the vest “Avery” by Olga Grishina. While it’s sleeveless and only single breasted it did have some lovely tailoring elements to it. It’s knit mostly in canvas stitch which I think is a riff on linen stitch which had a lovely thick almost fabric like structure. It could be modified to be double breasted and create that sharper tailored look you’re talking about.

There is an almost exact pattern (dropped instead of set in sleeves) for the cardigan shown at 14:23: It's the Lana Grossa Riccio Jacket Model 5 from their Lookbook Nr. 16

Omg!! I've also been inspired by the pink Sézanne sweater and I'm currently in the process of recreating it!
Sézanne has such cute designs but the quality really doesn't match the price tag...

I’d love to hear more about your process!! I’ve heard mixed reviews on Sezanne and I think it may depend on the items, unfortunately

@@highfiberknits I've been doing exactly what you've described!! I've just knit the button bands separately and then sewed them on but I think I could have just picked up stitches and spared myself the trouble. I could even have knit the button bands at the same time as the rest of the piece (just like in the Whitmoor cardigan). I've also done a bit too much short rows so it puckers a bit unfortunately 😣.
Sézanne is indeed a hit or miss kinda brand, you can, especially in older collections, find nice pieces but generally speaking the only thing they value is design.

Ailbiona McLochlainn has a recent release, the 6x2 Pullover. It has an option of buttons down along the shoulder

It’s interesting because I can think of several baby patterns that are double breasted cardigans but no adult ones coming immediately to mind!

I really like the cardigan you show at 15:18. Could you please share the brand? Thanks! (I doubt I would be willing to buy a commercially made piece when I could attempt to knit it but still want to check it out)
