Page chose his solo on this song among his top three, the others being Stairway and Achilles. Tea For One is powerful in places, and light as a feather in others. Delicate, monstrous, regal. Like Led Zeppelin themselves.

Lest we forget that arguably the main reason Zeppelin could do big epic songs like this is because Jimmy laid down the law from the very beginning with the record company that they would not do singles. Gotta be the smartest move in all of Rock music for my money. Damn right STB, he is a Wizard.

Their whole record deal was the best in history, Page and Grant had full control. Atlantic Records had absolutely no say..one reason they released the 4th album " UNTITLED " with nothing on the cover ..at all to indicate what it was..
Record company called it musical suicide..

Agree with your take on Bonham, he LEAD THE WAY for so many songs, leading/shifting each instrument - miss his drumming greatly, since he died & the band broke up - the orchestra Page & Plant worked with after was incredible - the drummer & Bassist on this LIVE concert were amazing, in lieu of Bonham & John Paul Jones…
Zeppelin were the best mix of rock & blues & Cajun - toss in an orchestra for good measure etc - downloads of magical music - not from this planet…like so many others from the era…a wonderful time to be alive - TY for these Reactions…nice to see our old classics are being appreciated all these decades later…

Tea for One and (Since I've been loving you) are the 2 songs that taught me how to play the Blues. The feel and spacing are incredible. I pretty much learned my groove and phrasing from Bonham. Achilles' last stand is about young friends who begin their journey into adulthood and life's adventure during the Trojan War and the return home of the Odyssey.

I would have loved seeing a live performance of Tea For One, back in the time, with the original band. The four of them were just magic together, & no other band even compare. The studio was Plants raw true feelings, after their car accident, wanting to be home with his family. Not knowing if he’d ever walk again, & his wife Maureen almost losing her life. He felt Page & Grant didn’t understand what he was feeling, they just wanted to get an album out because of not touring.

What a song! And that intro always kills me. I wonder if that was going to be another song and they just tacked it onto the front end of this song. With all the superlatives that you can throw Zeppelin’s way, I guess you can tack on clever as well.

Hey STB, having taken in your reaction and having read some of the fellow hard core ZepHeads insights below, I'd like to lay another, possibly different, angle of appreciation on ya my dude. Way back IN 76' when this came out, I would do something that for a number of reasons hasn't been in my life experience since the 80's. And that is listening WITH someone: In either silence, or with one of those polite, half whispered comments you occassionally slip in during your listening section.
I was 12 when Presence came out and my elder brother would put it on and we'd listen together but I hadn't lived near enough to have the maturity and life experience required to appreciate it anywhere near the level of feeling it invokes in me now. My brother was 6 years older and, at that age, 6 years is a huge age gap. But he is the one who turned me on to Zeppelin and always insisted that I not babble, but listen with him. Often he'd be pretty high and would sit on the bed and slowly sway, slowly rock, back and forth, almost like as when on heroin, which is a dark alley he would later join Jimmy in going down.
Jimmy was in the THROES of a smack addiction during these sessions, and while I do NOT romanticize that at ALL, he joined the ranks of Billie Holiday and Charlie Parker and was playing at a level of depth, maturity, and emotion that can only be described as ineffable, truly sublime. Sublime has become an overused word, like 'awesome' to the point where it's meaning has become diluted. But the sublime is what I experience when I am immersed in listening to Tea for one. I'm a guitarist since the late 70's and while I've never tried smack, there's something I can't explain about having a bottle of red wine and a few joints of green bud and jamming along with this. But I'm getting away from my point. Watching your reactions is the closest thing I've had to listening to Zeppelin WITH someone, in DEEP listening, for over 35 years.
You don't just pay attention, you EXPERIENCE with DEPTH. And you LOVE the blues, especially in the minor key, which is sadder than standard blase blues in 12 bar major. And I thank you for being our listening companion. You are a solid brother my dude and by the way, thank you for your service in the Navy.
I'm also going to say what no white boy is saying: We who love and respect where Blues comes from, are obviously into having Zeppelin affirmed by a black brother. I think we feel it lends traditional street cred to Zeppelin blues, and affirms its legitimacy and gets approval. Black folks making reaction videos is all over youtube these days. I also LOVE when the young kids give Hip Hop a rest and listen to Zeppelin, the appeal is timeless, universal and transcendent of 'race'. There isn't black or white, there's just dark skinned or light skinned. Me? I'm a light skinned brother ya heard? 😇🤣😎💜
So thanks again for your energy and your affirmation. Peace and all best to you always and in all things. Since I've been drinking Tea for One. 🙏

Charlie Jones. Incredible musician. What a band he/they had late eighties through the nineties
